The Nintendo Switch sold over 900k units in March (North America)

switchy.jpg

Despite the hype leading to a frequent lack of stock online, Nintendo's newest home console ended up selling 906,000 units in the month of its launch. This makes the Switch one of the fastest selling Nintendo consoles in the company's history. Console sales weren't the only thing reported, either, as sales figures for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were revealed as well. The Switch version of the game moved 925,000 copies, oddly outselling the target console itself. In the case of the Wii U version, there were 460,000 games sold.

Not a bad start as it's on par with the Xbox One sales while The PS4 sold around 1.2 million units for the same time launch period. Now if only they would start supplying the NES console too as quite a few stores are already raising the RRP when there is demand, but not enough supply (was about to buy it from a local store receiving stock from Nintendo, but they decided a NES classic is worth at least 130 euros)

They discontinued production of NES Classic. They'll probably try to funnel that demand into Switch with NES VC.

Keep in mind, the PS4 sold in the holiday season and so did the XBONE, pretty incredible that it was even that close on an unorthodox launch date.

Incredible numbers, sold close to XB1, and ps4 sales. This is outside the holiday season as well. Solid.

Nintendo needs to get the momentum going, choose the right cards, i.e need the big guns for this holiday. Either Pokemon or smash bros 4 port, or top AAA third party games. Mario will do well to support this. Mario kart 8 and splatoon 2 has is covered during the summer.

If pokemon Stars does come out this year Switch will dominate the holiday season.

Could have sold more if they didn't only ship 3 systems to every store.
Not at all, you ween just enough to each store causing artifical demand. It's human instinct to want to have what others don't. That and it makes it seem like a sellout product to the general public, making them seek it out more. Hence why a Zelda box pushed so many units

Really? I could've sworn other sources said the Switch sold 1.5 million in it's launch week...

Either way, that's not bad sales-wise, a little under both the Xbone and the PS4 if these numbers are right, but launch sales mean jack. If Nintendo can get a properly good E3 going and announce more than 2 games for 2017 that'd be a good start.
It sold 1.5 million worldwide, not in North America.

I am very much well aware of how marketing works, but that doesn't mean I can't be salty about it.

So only 600,000 were sold between EU and Japan? I can't fathom that...

That 1.5 million was roughly how many were sold after a week or 2, this 900,000 for America is after a month. It's likely that at this point global sales are over 2 million. We don't yet have Japan and Europe's sales numbers for the first full month.

@Dildos right, these figures don't stack up. I'm reading misleading figures on the net all over the shop, in connection with the Switch sales! Like he says I read first 1.5mill then I red on another web page they were looking at 1.9mill and now North America sold alone 906,000, well if North America alone sold 906,000, the rest of the world didn't do very well according to statistics floating about

1.5 million units worldwide in the first week... The US had 900k in the first month. The numbers make sense.
