If the English demo is anything to go by, it'd rather just be better to not have any voice-acting then 'cause that is some cringeworthy voice-acting they'e included in it.

I don't see why they can't include the original Japanese voice cast. :(

Stop being such a weeb

You can disable voice anyway.

It's not about being a weeb, the English voices just sound really cringey in comparison.

Jesus god. Not everything needs an undub. I swear it's a mental thing these days.

I didn't like the Zelda BotW English dub but I did love the Spanish one, it just felt like the English dub of BotW was rushed, as an example.

Haha yeah an undub of a puzzle game seems incredibly unnecessary. I can understand the complaint for story driven games (though it's rarely if ever bothered me in any games I can really remember), but I mean I just can't imagine caring about the voice acting in a Tetris game.

This game does have a story. And you get voice acting all the damn time in this game. Having played only the japanese demo I can't say anything about the english dub. But I can say the japanese voice acting happens to much, and gets extremely annoying.

Ok, allow me to elaborate, I thought it should have been clear, but I guess not. I mean games where the story is actually important, I understand that this game has a story, and so does a game like Box Boy or Pushmo, but I'm not going to give a shit about what these kinds of game's voice acting is like. If however it's a game where the plot is actually important and something that one genuinely plays for (like Zelda, Grand Theft Auto, or Fire Emblem), that is when I'm going to care about what the voice acting sounds like.

Fuck everyone saying "fuck you" as first reply. Some of us have played the game for long time now already and been used to the Japanese voices. I enjoy them personally especially the russian girl because she says russian things and has a funky accent - and the Dub has neither. Ringo's voice is slightly a miss from her Japanese counterpart and overall, the English voices are not bad but I played the game in Japanese, I love it in Japanese and I am very meh over the English dub the game has especially after trying the demo.

There should be a option for Dual audio if it is just physically possible for Sega and it has been in the past. This is big enough difference for me to import the Japanese version instead of buying the western localization.

To each his own. Nothing wrong with importing the Japanese game due to you disliking the dub, but refusing to buy the game due to it is just crass. If you're fluent enough to know what good Japanese dubbing is, then just buy the JP version.

Which is wrong.
If the western version just had dual audio I woudl get that over the japanese one because unless you missed this fact: Japanese is very hard language to read. The story mode is in a LOT OF TEXT and western version translates that all. I can understand some spoken Japanese but it is definitely not "enough so Japanese version is just as good as one with English text"

Call me a fucking weeb I just like things in way they were made, I played Metro 2033 in Russian voices and that game gives the option I just want the same in 2017 from games without it being constant ROLL TEH DICE even today, on system and in a game where storage is absolutely not the issue. (I can accept Xenoblade X having just one language because it almost fills the whole Wii U disc size with one language so much like with most PS2 games Dual Audio was not option because of size limitations - Wii U is hacked though and we have undubs for it so loose some win some)

Ultimately, if there aren't any other dubs on the Western release other than English (a French, Spanish, German, Italian would be nice) then muting the characters will be the fix. I did this for Super Bomberman R too as it's the same case -- cringeworthy voice acting.

I know this is no Zelda nor would Sega spend too much on voice acting but they should have done a better job or optionally include the Japanese original track too.

Then you know exactly what good Japanese dubs sound like? Because if you refuse to buy the localized version due to bad dubbing, then that is just hypocrisy. If the voices are that bad and you really wanna play the game and understand it, then just turn the voices off. If you truly liked playing games the way they are, then play it in its original language. As far as I know the translation itself can be off.

There is really not much justification for people to refuse to buy a game that they are supposedly interested in due to bad dubs. That just means all you wanted was to hear Japanese voices.

Not trying to promote had dubbing, but least you would pick up the game regardless. There are so many people who refuse to buy a game due to English dubs

Oh yes, that reminds me of the rockus of Nintendo games that only have an English dub in the West.

No. I would not Refuse to buy it, that is a strong wording. I personally just play a lot of marathon mode in the game and I enjoy the character voice clips. Knowing a language is not a binary you can have different levels of how well you understand a language and this just can't be a hard thing to grasp.

If I had an option, I would like english text and Japanese voices as an option. I would even pay for that. If I had to say my 2nd best choice it would be the japanese version over a western one with just the english voices as they currently are.

I at no point said the english dub is bad. It is surprisingly OK, aside not just having a Russian character be very distinctively Russian (which I apparently in no way could not understand because I can't understand japanese because knowing a language is a fucking Binary apparently) - and that character just happens to be my favorite character. I dunno.

What this REALLY is about is: Will I buy the game at all. I already have the game on my PS3, my 3DS and my Wii U too. Given the price for this almost 4 year old game that is Tetris and Puyo Puyo still costs 5400jpy or 40 eur localized The dual audio is enough to go buy or no buy. I already have few versions I can play already - even on the go. Online would be nice to play without massive lag and being pain to the Japanese for sure but whatevs.

And I own two copies of Breath of the wild and neither have dual audio but the deal is different with it not being very distinctively japanese and I have not played breath of the wild in Japanese for past 2 years.

There is no debate then, as my point was targeted entirely towards those who refuse to buy games due to bad dubbing. Still baffles me that people care more about Japanese voices than they do for the entire game.

It's depressing that some people refuse to buy games because they rather hear butchered Japanese pronunciation of western words

I played the Japanese demo a fair bit and the voices sound really cringey. I can't imagine how bad the English one must be if it's even worse.

Butchered? Ruru says "harasho" quite correctly for lack of fluency really.
And I think it for all who already know this game, dual audio is a factor in evaluating worth of their money. When you will hear the characters in every game you play, online whatever marathon etc. It is a deal, even without story or whatever.
"Just turn them off" and now you can't tell how well your opponent is doing without looking at it which in this game is a disadvantage.

But for me the western version goes from "I think I will pass" to "I think I will definitely get this eventually if not immediately" with just dual audio. Of course I gotta factor in the fact it will not have the DLC with retail price too, like some rereleases right now (say Mario Kart 8 deluxe) for this almost 4 year old game.

aprox. 10 hours later...

After playing the English demo more and comparing to demo and full version of Japanese Puyo Puyo tetris there is even more things to just dislike overall about the English spoken version.

Rulue is not only character that has their characterization made flatter/more generic without distinct russian lines, certain speech type etc. but other characters are missing this too. Risukuma has very distinct way of speaking in the Japanese version (Saying "love" in front of his attack lines most distinctively) - Like said the quality of delivery is fitting and not bad. It is not worst dub and not even close but localization itself makes the cast more boring than in Japanese original.

One more thing is that the localization seemed to miss the point of "TETRIS" line that characters have in Japanese. It is VERY confusing to play the English version and hear my own character or opponent announce "TETRIS" from a 2 line clear or something like that. Doesn't the localization team know that "TETRIS" specifically stands for a Tetris, 4 line clear that is highest singular clear you can do in the game. In Japanese version characters announce Tetris only when a Tetris is made but the western version is just... Why, what, didn't anyone tell them?

So I am in some level having bad vibes from just direction this game is given in English. I REALLY would like there to be Dual Audio so I can just gladly buy the western version because I was wishing for one for some time in past but not quite like this... Fucking monkey paws.

I like the japanese voices a lot more as well, they have a lot more personality in each one like just listening to one voice I can sort of tell what kind of personality the character has. Plus they put a lot more emphasis on their lines and it makes chains a lot more satisfying. The voices make the game feel a lot more immersive so I would never want to just turn off the voices.
