Hey guys, i just messed up pressing the DEL key on one of my saves for DQ 8, 69 hours in, thought the cursor was on the left side but it was on the right side (Gateway file saves)

i started using filezilla because i switched to N3DS and that way i dont have to be opening it all the time to extract the SD card

Is there a way to undo this in filezilla? i havent closed filezilla or instance of FTPD on the 3DS.

Also, A long time ago someone here on gbatemp recovered a Kingdom Hearts DDD savefile of mine that was deleted in a similar way, from what i remember INSIDE gateway that save is still registered as long as i dont load another game (which i havent)

Can anyone help me out please?

for those wondering, i AM on a9lh with luma but i havent ditched Gateway because easier/quicker management of savefiles, and i also dont have to be installing games.

You could try using a file recovery software like Recuva if nothing else works. File recovery works by reversing the deletion of files and therefore it's important that you don't write any new files to your SD card as that could overwrite the "deleted" file and make it unrecoverable. You'll need a PC with Windows and you'll need to take out your SD card for the recovery. I've had success with this for deleted files on my PC in the past.

going to try this right now. Remove sd card from 3ds, use recuva? any specific options ??

EDIT i cant find filezillas temp folder. Does anyone know the path in windows 7?

Yes, once the SD card is in the PC, you can select that as the source and have Recuva search for all file types. You can try a quick scan and if that doesn't work, try a deep scan. The deep scan option takes longer, but will do a more thorough search on the file system. Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for!

this is the thread btw, where someone helped me recover one of those saves along time ago.
Does anyone understand what he did?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

recuva is only finding really old files, ones from like last year. On both deep and normal scan

can anyone help me recover this the way @npbg6464 (or you whenever you see this, ill literally not turn the 3ds on again until then) recovered my previous file in the thread i posted?
-file was deleted thru filezilla
-i havent loaded a rom on gateway again
-filezilla is still open but i cant find the temp folder
-recuvas only finding files from last year, probably ones that i actually deleted normally via connecting the sd card to the computer and deleting from there

FZ doesn't have an undo function. You deleted something from the server (SD card), and now it's gone. The file won't be found on your PC or in a "temp folder". To recover it you'd have to run a recovery software as suggested on your SD card, and if where the data is stored hasn't been overwritten you might be able to recover it.

Now as far as what you should use to recover the file .. I'd like to point out that I've never had much luck with Recuva, but always managed to recover files with EaseUS Recovery Tool, so you might want to give that a try. I can't remember if it's free though, and if not, you might need to "obtain" it from somewhere

In any case if a recovery program can't restore it either then it's poof, gone .. forever.

nvm
I JUST DID IT
Recuva and all those recovery programs are trash, this is like the third time i havent been able to fix a situation like this with one of those programs

Ended up comparing two previous savefiles i had in Hex Editor and found a common string that i used on my SD card raw image file
BOOM
ended up playing with byte locations and got the 512kbs that i needed
Literally cant believe it, just kinda read the thread that I posted before and i kinda figured it out thru trial and error after like the 6th time trying.
It was a 79 hour Dragonquest 8 savefile.

Thank you ONCE again @Cyan and @npbg6464
you guys and that thread saved my ass.

THANK GOD for forums and backed up info.

and sorry everyone, this can be closed now.

Well like I said, in my opinion Recuva is far from the good ones you ought to use. Next time you need to recover something that you can't otherwise acquire, I'd recommend to at least give EaseUS a try ;). Glad you got your save file though.

Of course a backup is better than recovery software. Next time just use testdisk to mount the image. It can read the partitions inside (e.g. "testdisk /root/image.img") and extract files from the filesystem. Much easier than calculating with a hexeditor. It wouldn't have worked if the filesystem had been compressed.

I believe he's using Windows, not Unix/Linux.
