So here's the inside of my hans folder on the ROOT of my SD Card. When I launch HANS, it says <INVALID> still. Am I supposed to have something else here or have I done this wrong? I just finished making copies of all the files and then merging what I needed to, and then I inserted it here.

You haven't compressed it yet. get ROMFSBuilder.exe and use it on that folder, then name the output 00179600.romfs and put it in hans.
The folder doesn't need to be on the SD card.

I had compressed it using the FEAT thing that came with the randomizer, and ROMFSBuilder just crashes on start up; I can't use it..

EDIT: I only compressed the randomized files, was I supposed to compress the ENTIRE thing?

Welp, that's what you have to use. I don't think there is any other way. I've honestly never heard of it crashing, though... I wonder why

What's the point of compressing it with the FEAT tool if you have to use ROMFsBuilder?

It tries to set up after I select what I want it to compress, and then crashes, but FEAT can compress and decompress just fine.

I'm going to try decompressing the entire folder, and then re-compressing it, to see if that does anything, using the FEAT thing. But like I said, ROM builder thing just crashes.

FEAT compresses the files to the way that they were when you extracted the romfs (or the opposite after you extract the romfs) and the ROMFSBuilder rebuilds the romfs. You need to do both.

Ah, I see. So is there something I can use as a substitute for the ROM builder?

EDIT: Oh gosh darn. I had already started decompressing so I could re-compress...Now I have to sit here and wait for the entire thing to go through the whole process again.

Wow, why didn't I think to do that? I'll try that next. Thanks for all the help so far, everyone, I know I'm kind of a lost cause and all, but I still appreciate it.

Once the files are done compressing, check them.

They should all be .bin.lz files.

If you have any leftover .bin (but not .bin.lz) or .txt files you forgot to compress those too.

Will it still be necessary to use the ROM builder? I assume it will be but at this point I'd like to avoid any extra work, I've been working on this basically all day, yikes.

Yes.

HANS needs the entire rom, so, the romfs file.

This is why it's usually recommended to have A9LH or some form of CFW set up, had you had that, you could've just dragged the files somewhere on your SD for NTR CFW.

I have enough trouble with this, and I've heard setting up Custom Firmware has a chance of bricking the system, and I'd rather not take that risk.

Bricking the system only happens to people with faulty SD cards during the CFW installation process and people not reading directions carefully. If you are on 11.3, you can't get CFW and you're stuck to using Homebrew and HANS. If you are on 11.2 or below, follow http://3ds.guide/.

Ah, I can't. I'm on 11.3.. Not that I really want to, this whole process has kind of put me off on modding my 3DS. Too frustrating, but I guess that's just cause I don't understand half of it.

Should the .txt files have .lz at the end as well?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Try a different version of the builder perhaps?

both available builds just crash...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So if there are no alternatives, I guess I'm forced to give up. It's really upsetting since I got everything set up only to be unable to finish at the last minute, but I guess that's how it is. I appreciate all the help everyone. I'll keep looking around for a little bit tonight, but I think after that I'm gonna go ahead and quit. Homebrew has been nothing but issues for me, and the entire reason I got it was to mod my games and I can't even do that. Yay. ( I'll go ahead and stop whining now )

Or.... you can do what I did and randomize it, edit the exported HTML, and use that as settings for the randomizers and re-go.
I'm in the process of editing the generated XML, but I'm not sure where to put it after I've finished so that I can inject it into the randomizer.

I opened the file with notepad and just saved it. I then dragged the file onto the XML and it replaced the original. Then open it to check, of course. Then just use it as the settings on the latest version of the randomizer and go. Idk how stable or smart this is, but it worked for me. (I can't stand Takumi ever and he replaced Xander so I changed it, and some other things while I was at it.)

Thank you much! I shall begin my work on Fire Emblem Fates: Justice where every single character is Arthur. Yeah I can't stand Takumi either. I hate him.

ok, so I have followed all the steps, launched ntr selector, and my game was not randomized at all when I start a save. I have tried decompressing and recompressing the files that were supposed to be randomized, still the same. I have also checked to see if the files were in the right place. It just does not randomize my save at all.
