Read the instructions. The ROM must be re-encrypted on a 3DS with Decrypt9 to work with Gateway, zero-key encryption (or decrypted .3DS files) doesn't work.
Ok, I got that, but how can I work around the fat32 limitations on file dimensions? The old3ds can read only sd cards formatted in fat32 and I can't put the rom to encrypt in there, neither I can save the encrypted rom on the sd.

Also bad news , if you want to play Nova or Umbra online , DON't use cias, that goes for any cia that goes online, I am sure that Nintendo caught all of those people using Pokemon Sun or Moon online, not through playing online early but through the tickets and going online early, but they still know who is using cias online, I now know that cias ALWAYS create bad tickets and I am sure that the tickets are sent off while playing online with millions of people playing online ip addresses would be too hard to track, but bad tickets are easy, either they are good or they are bad , its that simple. And importing a good ticket will not overwite a bad ticket, that too I have found out, thus if you have a cia and you are online guess what your ticket will be flagged as not legitimate... if you really want to play online and like the game the buy it. That is the only way to play online and not set up red flags to Nintendo. For hacks if you have an original cartridge or eshop title, use them and the saltysd version, I am NOT supporting online use of cias in any form I can prove this when using a cia and deleteing it, then trying to download it from the eshop sure it says that you have already downloaded it, and at 99 % you get the dreaded 6016 error, that is not about an error on your sd card but its about using a bad ticket and using a cia from Nova or Umbra and tehn trying to download your original cia from eshop as many do just to test cias , guess what the ticket from your cia is bad and even the legit ticket that they send you DOES NOT overwrite your Sun or Moon bad ticket.the only way to download a legitimate file is to delete the ticket, you can do that google it....dont ask me how to delete a bad ticket until I get permission to tell you how.... 3DS files on the Gateway are the same, bad tickets...rcamp48

PS: For those of you who want cias for randomized versions, I have found a way of creating the randomized part and when the file goes to create the cia I halt the batch file , it then writes the randomized version to the a\0\8 folder , 2 for Nova , 3 for Umbra.... I can upload customs versions with only those files , you copy them into your Nova saltysd a\0\8 folder or Umbra saltysd a\0\8 folder and if you have a legitimate game of sun or moon (eshop or cartridge)....you can probably go online safely. (If youhave not edited your Pokemon , I think randomizing them is different but I would probably use a randomised version offline as what I have done to mine is reandomized all pokemon caught, and randomized all moves learned at certain levels, also masterballs sell for 50 bucks...if I get Dio's permission I will upload only the 2 or 3 file....rcamp48

Ok, seems I made it work by installing a rebuilt .cia using FBI network installing and socketpunch on my pc.
Hope the game doesn't crash after character creation XD.

Unfortunately, PK3DS does not allow you to edit incomplete ROMs. What you'll want to do is follow the instructions for the Distribution Pack, and where it says "randomize?" say yes. Instead of randomizing, just make whatever changes you like to the ROM before you recompile.

Piggybacking on this because I want to play randomized using the SaltySD method
The instructions say that I have to dump/decrypt the version of the game that matches the romhack, so if I want to play Umbra Moon 1.1 for example, when choosing the title in Hourglass9, do I pick /title/0004000E/00175E00 (which stands for the 1.1 update) instead of /title/00040000/00175E00 (the "base game")?

Also, the next step is to place the decrypted file "in the same folder as "setup.bat"". Thing is there are two setup.bat on the pack, one on the main folder and another in the Batch folder, so which one is it?

Yes I am working on this for saving directly to a copy of the saltysd leveled build of both Nova and Umbra just the randomized version
When I am done it will be included in the batch file but I have to send it to dio first

Is there now way to do this without 3ds homebrew? My 3ds stopped working yesterday, so i'm looking to install nova sun on my pokemon sun backup with just a pc.

Main folder.

Alright, I managed to randomize it, but it did not kept the levels of the expanded build. I tried running setup again without randomizing, and after checking the contents with PK3DS it seems that the "wild encounters" part of the build is not being applied in the first place. Same thing with the Leveled build.

On the command prompt, this is what I get

The distribution packs store the wild encounters as .bps files that patch your existing garc files. If you're randomizing for SaltySD, copy the contents of saltySD/nova_sun/a/0/8 or saltySD/umbra_moon/a/0/8 to /extracted_ROM/romfs/a/0/8 before you randomize.

It worked, thank you so much! I'm really gonna enjoy this

On 3ds the game froze when I tried to buy items in the first pokecenter. The music goes on, but the game is frozen. Anyone having the same issue?

No.
I'm just using a gateway card to either install .cias or use .3ds on the red card. But if by removing the Shop.cro from the rom patcher I can keep all the rest then I can do without the changes in the in-game shops..

Without CFW, you have to remoce Shop.cro, correct.

I start to get a little bit scare for the challange of this game, but im happy to know that at least is not going to be a boring nuzlocke in the normal game. I most scary for the fact that i have 4x weakness to eletric and flying type with my actual team. But i like all the claver change you made with the trainer in the school; i especialy like the counter Bonsly.

Breath of the Wild was eating up all my time, but I'm back on that Pokémon grind.

I'll leave my first impressions once I complete the first island, but I'm curious if I have a bad installation or if this is an actual error; the Rising Star on Route 3 after Hau mentions having a Growlithe, which is what he uses in the regular game, but then throws out a shiny Quagsire and Skiploom. I'm playing with English text, too, so I'm not sure what's going on.
