Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

que revised model, longer battery, followed by new model with padded docking station, then next new model with better joycon receivers, then new model with improved wifi card, and new joycons with better design so it cant be clipped on the wrong way.
Thing is, no Nintendo console has ever had revised hardware or a slim model, the handhelds sure, but not home consoles. So is the switch a handheld or a home console?
I literally don't know whether to get a replacement for mine, or wait for an updated model, but what if there isn't one because it's a Nintendo home console..?

Well, the Wii got quite slimmed down... Or trimmed down? I don't know, torn to garbage.
And it kind of was a home console.

No, no one is surprised. Nintendo never did advertise how powerful the console was, just how good it looks and how fun it is to play. That was genesis who did that "BLAST PROCESSING" bit and now playstaion and xbox will too. Nintendo didn't survive on making a power console, they survived on having casual gamers buy a game for the first time even though they haven't played a game before. If your over 60 year old parents are buying it, the job is done right. Meanwhile people who buy playstation and xbox are probably between 20-50, nintendo selling to even the earliest of ages to the oldest of ages. :P
Yes they did, they officially reported that it hits 1TFLOP, except they never said it was FP16 so everybody reasonably assumed they meant FP32 since that's the industry standard and it would be grossly deceitful to report any other figure when the competition reports FP32 scores.

What i meant to say is they never do advertise how powerful their consoles are. Meaning that the main focus and selling point of their consoles wasn't how amazingly well it performs, is was about how fun the games are and how unique the controls are. Not that they never talk about status and specs. Sorry if i didn't make it clear. :P

Is anyone actually surprised? Nintendo always makes their consoles weak as hell. (Barring the SNES and N64)

That being said I'm fine with the power the Switch has. I have my Gaming PC for demanding titles.

that is my view (minus PC because i cant be arsed to buy a new fan) if the switch was just a portable console then it would be epic, nothing like it on the market, but as its a home console thats made portable in a sense its just that, a portable home console.

and nintendo already have issues with devs supporting them and it lacking their AAA titles, nothing will change, it never does thanks to its lacking hardware, so youll end up with yet again the usual nintendo titles

think youll find the wii had a revised model or two.

but what i mean for the switch is when nintendo realize they cant fix issues with just firmware updates, because its using old hardware, theyll release a new version to help fix them by adding better hardware.

I guess it's okay to lie then, or to say conveniently deceitful things, or to withhold the truth to purposely create hype via the media.

Question: Did anyone here complain when it was revealed that both Xbox One and PS4 used essentially off-the-shelf low-end AMD APUs? Or, going a bit further back, when the Sega Genesis was revealed to have a stock 68000 CPU, which was around 10 years old at the time of the system's release?

I'll be waiting with a bag of popcorn, you know, like all comparison threads, discussions, are essentially nothing but pissing contests :creep:
Please, take care not to slip over all the salt when going around those threads.

Hi foxi, been a while since i had a conversation with you. :)
Anyway are you able to calculate the gflops of the given Switch's clock speeds, both docked and un-docked.

Wait you mean me or nintendo?
I mean Nintendo. Nobody's ever written a correction, Nintendo just sat there while all the media based their pieces on a half-truth, hoping to God that the gap between the Switch and the XBO is small enough to be negligible in third-party support. Now the gap is revealed to be huge and there's no excuse. Prepare for no games and sub-par support, because with these specs there won't be any AAA content coming.
