Mario Kart 8 Deluxe trailer showcases new features and game modes

Nintendo of Japan has put out a six minute trailer that shows off all the new additions that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be getting on the Nintendo Switch. All the tracks and characters from the Wii U version and its DLC will be included, as well as new additions such as Dry Bones, King Boo, Bowser JR, and Splatoon's squid characters. There will also be a beginner mode, titled Smart Steering, which prevents players from falling off the race tracks. Battles return, with brand new courses. There's also other battle games, announced first during the Switch launch reveal event, shown off in the video, such as the Piranha Plant mode, where one team has the piranha plant power-up, and must try to capture all the players who don't. Coin Battle is included as well, where you must try to collect the most amount of coins on the track before time runs out. Lastly, there's a Shine mode, which has players race across new battle stages to get all the shines hidden in the course. Lastly, one more new character will be added...in...the form of Gold Mario... Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launches worldwide on April 28 for the Nintendo Switch.

UPDATE: Ninendo of America has posted the same trailer, albeit a slight bit shorter, in English now.

Metal Mario has. Gold is new. And completely pointless, too.
Ah, right. Metal Mario not Gold Mario. Another pointless gold character.

Mario Kart 8 has tons of pointless Gold and Baby versions of characters.

this dlc is only for switch?
Most of it can be acquired on the WiiU version. Except for the new content, of course.

Gold Mario uis suposed to be a reward for completing all 200cc Grand Prixs. And it's placed as an alt. appearance for Metal Mario (like female Villager and Inklings and alt. Shy Guys/Yoshis). Plus, there is a new drifting boost tier, we've seen purple sparks. Finally, DK dabs at 2:45.

Beginner mode...hmm I think they should had the same difficulty levels but with the option in settings to turn off track fall offs. I barely play mario kart 8 and it came with my wii u with all the dlcs, due to track fall offs. They are the stupidest part of mario kart

I'm still kinda pissed with MK8 deluxe

It was so hard for me to find a MK8 copy for Wii U and now they relaunch everything lmao

I'll still buy it when I have the Switch tho

Really? They're putting in a proper battle mode now? The thing that fans had been clamoring about through the entirety of that game's relevance on Wii U?

"What's that? You want a proper battle mode? A staple of the series up to this point? Okay, you can have it three years later, on a different full price port, on a new system you have to buy, where the new controllers you need for multiplayer are expensive."

Yeah i was disappointed with the battle mode in mk8 for wiiu. Well i always buy Nintendo systems sooner or later anyway.

No system has ever gotten more than one Mario Kart.
https://xkcd.com/1122/
Also arcade systems have several, and only a couple of years apart in some cases.
No system ever lacked an exclusive zelda, until it did.
There is never more than one "generation" of pokemon on a system, until there was.
The wars series was on every system/handheld, until it wasn't.
Never had a system without mario in the launch window? Don't tell me Luigi's mansion counts.
Square and Final Fantasy are Nintendo staples.
Nintendo sell Rare? Are you mad?
Europe always gets things last. There were even exclusives in some instances.

Likewise "we have never done it before" is probably not great business sense. Feel the market out, play to that is the better plan.

Anyway the only features and modes I am interested in is being able to create a tournament with these specific tracks, in this order (or maybe random), with this many laps and maybe a selectable CC as well. It is not even a hard thing to do, and various Nintendo games have such granularity already.... maybe I will go back and make some hacks.
That said if they want to trim the sprawling mess of mechanics that seem to be infesting modern offerings I am OK with that too.
