I have a PSP 3001 on ofw 6.31 and im wondering what is the best cfw to install to then use Infinity? Do I update to ofw 6.61 initially to update to infinity or stay on ofw 6.31 and get a cfw on something lower than 6.61 to use Infinity. If i want to play psp and psOne backups what is the best option going forward. Is HBL and signed homebrew still accessible on a cfw? Thanks in advance!

The OP on this thread is in dire need of updating.

I just purchased a PSP 3000 last week and I haven't hacked one since 1.50 OFW (I had a launch PSP which was stolen years ago). I've found some info on Wololo.net but GBATemp is usually my goto place for any console modding/hacking. I would love to see this thread updated to include the new 6.61 Infinity from Davee (I read online that 6.61 was hackable on my model of PSP so I updated to 6.61 OFW before attempting). The guides for Wii and Wii U, are very informative and updated usually as soon as new firmwares/homebrew/exploits arise. This PSP guide doesn't even mention the 6.61 OFW that was released at the beginning of the year. Which puts it kind of far behind as a "Come here first!" guide.

I've had mixed sucess with hacking my 3000. I couldn't launch Davee's Maker tool due to being on OFW (I bet everyone thinks that any PSP owner that wants infinity is automatically running CFW already). I was able to run a temporary CFW program that allowed me to run the maker program, but the only place I could find 6.31 OFW was on a German site. I couldn't even tell if it was a real update file or not (It looked legit, but I don't know if it was different than the US 6.31 Eboot) but I ran the Maker program and it sucessfully completed. I transfered the file that was created to the updater and ran the update sucessfully. However, after running the updater I still was not able to launch the configuration tool (system was stating it was corrupt data). I ended up re-running the temporary CFW program again and now I can run homebrew, but the patch isn't permanent. I really haven't seen any benefit from Infinity yet because I still have to run the temporary CFW program every time I power cycle. I'm looking everywhere for info on PSPs but I'm starting to see that with the Vita hacked, there's a lot of people completely dropping the PSP (Even Davee said his 6.61 Infinity was his Swan Song for the PSP because he's switching to Vita).

It's possible that Sony could update the OFW past 6.61, but it doesn't look like that's very likely to happen any time soon. Either way, whether they update it or not there are tutorials that need to be updated to include the new hacks and such. I've been searching on this topic for the last week, and can hardly find a 6.31 OFW let alone put together a guide on how to go through this process with a stock PSP. If I had the time to write/update a tutorial I would, but I have so much going on that I barely have time to follow a tutorial let alone write one.

Sorry guys, I'm really not trying to complain. I know everyone devotes their own free time to make these things happen and I appreciate it just as much as the next guy (If not more). I love being able to emulate on today's portable consoles (I have two Vitas so I can have a 'vanilla' stock Vita and a hacked one as well) and explore all the awesome homebrew provided by the community.

If possible I would like to see the PSP forums get a little bit of action, and updating. If only just to keep up with the times so guys who are fresh into it (or like me who are just getting back into it) can be brought up to speed without spending a week researching everything.

I'll have to agree with Mr. Sparkle. Davee's method for installing CFW requires a PSP that is already running CFW....well that's a bit awkward for me. Still trying to find a tutorial for installing a permanent CFW on a 3001 PSP that's on OFW and no luck so far.

I hope this is okay, because this is the stickied thread for the matter and I'm unsure if because of that, I am allowed or encouraged to create a new thread. :(

Anyways, I modded my PSP back in '09 and updated it, I do believe, in 2012 because of stability issues. That's all gone of course and it isn't the reason I am here. I wanted to know how I would go about upgrading my memory stick? Is the flash dependent on my magic stick I created and will require a new reflash, or can I just format a new larger card and pop that sucker into my PSP? And regardless of that, what type of card should I get? I want to avoid bad cards or knock offs.

I am also looking for advice on how to determine what I can clean off my PSP. I threw a lot of stuff on here it seems and no longer know what it is and if it is safe to remove (for space purposes).

My PSP 2001 (Blue model) info:
CFW: 6.60 PRO-B10

Thanks for any help provided! :D

as far as your memory card you will need the fast recovery file for that cfw, though PRO-C fix 3 is considered better...ive heard. i have a cheap memory stick PRO DUO- micro SD card adapter from china that i got on ebay a couple of bucks, so i can use those super cheap micro SD that are in phones and more modern electronics and can store more of my PSP backups and PS1 backups. i just have to be super careful with the adapter becausr its pretty thin. even a piece of tape i put on it made it too big to slide in and out of my PSPs correctly.

I believe that when I modded to the PRO-B10 I was told it was permanent and unchangeable due to the PSP I possessed, so unfortunately I do not think I can update it, though I really would love wifi capabilities back. lol

May ask I how do I find the fast recovery file for my CFW and then what I do when I find it?

crud i didnt know you had a permanent. i believe you can just pop a new memory card in to a permanent without a problem. if you eject your existing card and put it back in and go to system> system information, and it still says 6.60 PRO B-10 then it shouldnt have a problem putting a fresh card in. maybe try turning it fully off and trying the same thing. i think its like around 15 seconds of holding the power switch as opposed to what most everyone does if theyre going to continue playing in a little or even the next day which is just holding the swith for 1/4 second.

I believe it is permanent. I did the upgrade years ago, stopped using because of my battery died and then just...forgot. The site I got help for this has pretty much died, so unfortunately I can't look up the PSP version I have.

So take out the card and turn it out? If so, yea, it still says 6.60 PRO-B10 even without the card in it. As for power, I just turn it off fully. I hold the switch up for a few seconds until it powers off. I thought that's what you were supposed to be doing. xD

As for the memory card: so I don't have to recreate a magic memory stick? If so, that's really neat! I remember the semi-permanent CFW I had before relied on the Pandora battery and I had to recreate the stick when I upgraded. It was a hassle finding all of those tools years after everyone forgot about the PSP modding scene. :rofl2:

Would this be a working card (fits and all)? I don't mind spending the money on a good quality card either. I'd prefer it, anyway:

i saw a 32 gb microsd card for 13$ and the adapter was like $3 after shipping total. your cfw is not really a problem it seems. i dont believe pandora or magic memory cards are necessary or used anymore its just running PRO installer nowadays and CIPL if your 2000 is able to be permanent. not a specific motherboard... i believe. you said you held the switch for a few seconds, as far as i know thats hibernation. it need to be probly 15 secs. of pushing(pulling? lol) the switch to truly turn it off. take out your memory card and turn it back on w/o the memory card. go to System>System Information and then if it still says 6.60 PRO B10, then it is permanent.

Ah, yep, I remember the CIPL thing for sure! I was told I needed to run it...after the CFW install, I think. So it definitely means even if I wanted to, I could not upgrade to a better CFW because I used CIPL, right?

That would explain why my battery dies even while "off" and why my time keeps resetting back to 2011. lol I just tried for fifteen seconds. It turned "off" within 5 but I still held it for the rest of the time. I took out the memory stick and turned it back on, and yea, the system information still says it has 6.60 PRO B10.

Oooh, do you have a link to that microsd and adapter? :O

Im pretty sure this site has rules to linking such things. a quick check of google or ebay will have both. but every convenience store has microsd cards, you might even have one from an old phone in fact. i know for a fact target has them, walmart, im sure even toys r us does if you wanna have a nostalgic trip too!

How do I use ctf themes on PSP GO?
I installed cxmb.prx and put the themes into the themes folder. But the themes aren't displayed in the theme settings. How can I fix that?

for a PSP that is already hacked under 6.20 PRO C2 with perma-patch using PSP 3000, is there any worthy thing to upgrade to 6.61 except for the online access thingy?

the steps are just too risky, its not like something that PRO CFW can do checks first for safety (for example the perma patch thingy, you can test it first if it works or not before making it permanent, in infinty firmware theres no way you can test it, its like im turning the russian roulette and praying that it doesnt land on a brick state).

I can of course rom them and play them that way. But weird my umd wont play. Also if i save a picture (same picture i was using on my old psp) it shows up as wallpaper. But then goes away with every game load or every power off. Please be of asst
