Miyamoto reveals Link's last name!

In a recent Game Informer interview, Nintendo legends Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma were asked 51 questions (and gave 51 answers) about The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

One of them was the burning question of many Zelda fans; does Link have a last name? And the answer is... (drum roll please)... Link! Yes, our green tunic-clad, pointy-eared protagonist is called Link Link. Miyamoto says it's because Link is not human (*gasp!* :O). And oh, it's same with Mario (it's-a me, Mario Mario!).

Check out the full 4 minute interview below, it's pretty fun, with several trivia revealed by two of the gaming industry's legends:

If I recall everything I've seen and played of the games, what they're reaching for is that "Link" is more along the name of an intangible entity in their world, or a Title. The characters' real names are what you atribute to them. Look back to how we're introduced to the modern iterations of those we've been calling "Link". They are just farmers, or children, or average (for their era) Teens, not legendary heroes.

Can only imagine how this works in Ocarina of Time.

Link's Mother (struggling to live): Please...save my son..! He has a...mark on his left hand...we had to escape our pursuers...My son's name is Link....Link--"

Deku Tree: "His name is what?"

Link's Mother: -dies-

Deku Tree: "So his name is Link Link? Gotcha."

Why is link referred to as a human in TP and SS? He is Hylian but why the human references then?
