Posting a System Check

Users can link to this guide so they don't have to write instructions on posting a SysCheck over and over. This is not a place to post your SysChecks, it's just a guide.

Creating a SysCheck.
  1. Extract the contents of SysCheckME.zip to the apps folder on your SD card or USB Hard Drive.
  2. Insert your SD card or USB Hard Drive into your Wii and turn it on.
    1. If you don't have an SD card or USB, you can still launch SysCheck as long as the Wii has WiFi. Just open SysCheck's boot.dol with ModMii (e.g. drag and drop syscheck's boot.dol onto ModMii.exe)
  3. Load the Homebrew Channel.
  4. Launch SysCheck ModMii Edition and choose to scan all IOS's.
  5. If SysCheck is stuck on one IOS for more than 5 seconds, it's frozen. Make not of the number it froze on and see Troubleshooting.
  6. Once it's done, press HOME to exit.
    1. Or Press A to upload your syscheck to the cloud. This is useful if you don't have an SD card or USB Hard Drive.
Posting your SysCheck.
  1. Turn off your Wii and put your SD card or USB Hard Drive into your computer.
  2. Open up "device:\syscheck.csv" with notepad
  3. Press Ctrl+A to select everything. Now press Ctrl+C to copy everything.
  4. Make a new post (in the appropriate thread) and create spoiler tags. Click between the "][" like so:
    SysCheckSpoilersNew.gif

  5. Press Ctrl+V to paste the contents of syscheck.csv between the spoiler tags.
  6. Save your post.
Troubleshooting
  1. Open up the SysCheck ModMii Edition meta.xml file with a text editor, preferably Notepad++ or Wordpad.
  2. Look for the "<arg>--skipIOS=0</arg>" line near the bottom of the file.
  3. Change the "0" to the IOS SysCheck HDE froze on.
  4. Save your changes and try running it again. If you are prompted about loosing format changes, save anyway.
  5. If it freezes on another IOS, duplicate the previously mentioned line in meta.xml and add the new IOS number.

Err, not quite, those came after I used a backup copy of metroid prime 3, PAL to be exact.

I had heard it was an issue if certain IOS's were patched, that was my understanding.

Brick my Wii?

Can't access bootmii from SD, black screen, wii DVD drive flashes.
  1. Then you have both the NTSC-U and PAL versions installed. You should start a separate topic on temp asking how to uninstall the duplicate versions of the News and Forecast channels.
  2. Brick My Wii is a nickname Pimp My Wii earned. Guess why?
  3. Run the HackMii Installer, go to BootMii, and choose to prepare your SD card.

Very well, altho can I use mod Mii to also update the CIOS's or is better that I hack mii installer, install something like priiloader and then try to update?

Touches things it shouldn't?

The HackMii installer is just what installs the HBC and BootMii. I'd suggest running ModMii and softmodding it from scratch. Don't EVER update.

Sort of. The author just had no idea what he was doing. So many bricked Wii's from that app.

No, no I meant updating the CIOS, the custom IOS, not the firmware/sys menu. Considering that two years ago was the last time I ever bothered to update the CIOS.

I also already told mod mii to build me the files and updates for the channels and latest CIOS (IE 222, 249, the ones meant for gaming)

Whelp another point against scenebeta, they usually host pretty cool stuff, but for such a thing to escape the radar...

Your sysCheck looks good to me. Have you tried launching the game with a different cIOS? If that doesn't work, have you tried using a backup from a different source? It could be a bad dump, especially if everything else works properly.

Hey! Thanks for the fast reply. I did try loading it with different cIOS, when it's on auto it used 248 and freezes on black screen, I tried 249 and 250 manually and I still get the same black screen. I've tried multiple sources but I get the same black screen with all of them :( I don't know what else I can do, I just really wanted to play it. But it's not the worst thing in the world, there's plenty of other games still :)

Thanks!

Edit: Also I checked the file in Wii Backup Manger and it seems fine.

Try using a different loader. If you aren't already, try Configurable USB Loader. It's a little less user friendly, but more stable in my experience.
Thanks for the response, finally found a stable version of the game that worked, don't know why the others didn't work but it's all good now :) Btw, I was using CFG all along it's my favorite loader!

I'm pretty noob to this stuff so please forgive me.

First the story:
Ok, so I dusted off my old softmodded wii, wanted to play a few new games but not all of them did work.
I was using USB loader GX to load some games, Big Brain Academy and Lost in Shadow didn't work. When I try to boot the game, I get nothing but a black screen.

So I googled and came here, it appeared my cIOS and bases were out of date (or something). I think I updated them, but I'm not sure.

Then I wanted to take it step by step, since I was getting frustrated by my own doing. So I needed to do a system check.
No big deal.... or so I thought....

For some weird reason, the system check isn't showing up in my wii homebrew channel.
Tried to copy "SysCheckHDE" and it's content to the root of my SD and find the option in the homebrew --> didn't work.

Hmmm... Tried to copy the content (so just the 3 files) to the root of the SD --> didn't work.

So what am I doing wrong?

EDIT: *FACEPALM* I had to put the folder in the apps folder, but hey it didn't say I had to put it there.

Back in a few minutes

Not sure if this is the preferred thread for this question, but I've run into a strange issue.

I soft modded my vWii several months back using one of the guides from this site. Everything ran extremely smoothly. I recently starting to have an issue with a couple forwarder channels that had previously been working fine. All of the sudden they would hang when the app started loading.

I installed syscheck so that I could post the findings here without anyone having to ask for it first. The test seems to work fine, and then it freezes the system at "Mounting the SD card" and requires the power being pulled to restart the system.

I've tried a couple different SD cards. All formatted to FAT32. Even tried different allocation block sizes.

Any ideas?

Since this isn't a SysCheck specific issue, I suggest you start your own thread. I'd guess that homebrew apps are failing to mount your SD.

I have PriiLoader Installed and updated that tonight (0.81 I think), Homebrew Channel is 1.12

Thanks for a really interesting thread, I have a Wii I softmodded myself some time ago and is in need of a bit of an update, it's an old Wii which has bootmii on boot 2 and is on 4.3e - I re-backed up my modded nand and importantly keys as I lost it (doh!) and now I have that safe think I'd like to check my cios installs, then look at neek2o and emulators on Wii. Last time I updated it and wiiflow was when skyward sword came out and I had a hdd issue so moved from a WBFS drive to a new drive using NTFS.

Am I correct to think I can then use modmii to update on a fresh non sdhc card ? Would I be right to skip bootmii ?

My Wii has served us well and I don't want to brick it, it still has my original argon chip in it which became obsolete with soft mod but has been good for troublesome USB loading until that was fixed and GameCube, it seems those and more are all better than disc now and I probably need to repartition to include a primary fat32 partition and look at neek2o and redump/ re-extract my discs :-)

@K3Nv2 what was your ps4 situation
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
did you always have a ps4 you never updated
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
or were you able to get new ps4 tracking it \
as soon as the hack was announced
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
or did you have to find a used one with the lower firm ware that was not updated
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I got this ps4 at launch and never updated since 9.0
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update
