I have an Old 3DS XL, and no matter what kind/size/type/format of SD card I put in, Software Management says "Could not access SD card".

I've tried formatting it as FAT32 using all the recommended tools, tried all sorts of sizes and makes, no difference. Also, I've tried the same cards in other devices (including a New 3DS), they work fine.

Any ideas?

Honestly, that sounds like a problem with the SD Card reader. If the 3DS is still under warranty (and unmodded), send it in to Nintendo. If your warranty is expired, or if you have a modded 3DS, you're probably going to have to find a repair shop or somebody reputable in your area knowledgeable in electronics repair. I'm certain you should be able to find somebody local on the forum who offers 3DS repair services.

yours could be a possible answer, but before we jump the gun there, we have to ask the brand of the sd card hes using. just because an sd dosnt work on his old 3ds does not necessarily mean his reader is broken, it could simply be an unsupported sd card.

i had an abacus once, and the 3ds didnt read it for sheit

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

plus, if his reader sustained such damage, it would say "no sd card inserted" not "could not detect sd card"
(yes there is a diffrence, you can see for yourself)

OP seems to indicate he has tried multiple SD cards in his 3DS, which have worked in other 3DS consoles. Reader damage seems to be the most likely problem.

Although dust in the reader might be the problem, so it's probably a good idea to try cleaning it out first.

yeah, so dirty could be most likeley. cause i mean, the reader is inside the 3ds, so if that got damaged, then something else wold also be damaged too

That makes sense for impact or water damage only. Ordinary wear and tear, a short in the board, or ribbon cable damage could easily damage the reader without affecting anything else on the console.
