UPDATE: Scalebound Officially Cancelled

image.jpeg

Scalebound, the collaborative project between Platinum Games and Microsoft, has just been cancelled. The game was initially announced in 2014, and was supposed to release in Q4 2016. The game had recently been delayed to "2017", but it seems Microsoft decided to can the project. Apparently, work had ceased on the game sometime near the end of 2016. Platinum Games hasn't said anything on the matter at the time of writing.

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences

UPDATE: It looks like Microsoft is specifically targeting YouTube videos that contain Scalebound gameplay footage and removing them.

Though this is mostly my speculation and assumptions, I think this cancellation is to be purely blamed on Microsoft. They're known for mismanaging third party Xbox devs, especially as of late. And anyways, Platinum itself should be fine. Nier Automata is heading along on schedule, and their CEO has mentioned that they are interested in creating a new IP within the next few years.
Well you could still maybe present some evidence during your investigation. :ninja:

If the xbox are having problem with third party stuff that isn't any good. Their E3 2016 failed to impress me (Sorry if i offend) but i mean just hope platinum is okay since they do hold like some awesome games.... even though i only played 2.

Not really surprised. I heard this was a "microsoft business decision" and we all know how well that worked out for Recore. Oh well, another nail in the Xbox brand name.

I'm genuinely interested to know the reason for the cancellation. I don't even own any Xbox systems but this was one game that would of made me jealous.

I had this game in mind when I bought my X1, thankfully there is still a solid lineup for 2017 along with state of decay 2.

They won't buy them because there is some weird curse with plastinum games. They make good games and they get high reviews but they are always commercial flops.

I don't remember a moment when a company starts taking down videos of a cancelled game. If true, they are really going after this thing.

I don't think there's away for Platinum to even take the IP with them. They could have at least finish it for the PC.

UPDATE: Platinum makes a statement regarding the cancelation

We’re sorry to say that on January 9, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound. We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.

Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR:Automata in March, and including products like GRANBLUE FANTASY Project Re:Link and LOST ORDER in the future.

We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support!

Something's bothering me
WHAT about all the people who pre ordered on amazon? When will there be a refund? Will there even BE a refund? Yesterday it could still be pre ordered, haven't checked
Amazon doesn't charge for pre-orders until the game ships, so the order will just be cancelled.
