Hi,

i'm going to Hardmod my new3DS XL just in case i ever need it and i find it very well to have direct access to the NAND.

My guess now was if it's possible to do th at with a Flex cable, In a youtube video:

i found someone has done this mod but the store he link to doesn't sell them anymore.

Does anyone have done such a mod on any 3DS Console and can me tell which cable i have to use.

I could like to use all DAT Points so it should have at least pins. please tell me where i can get such a cable.

The intention on using such a cable was that i don't have to solder to the points every time and (the best thing) that i dont need to modify the case of my Limited Edition so an USB plus fits in.

i had looked into the option at one point, but compared to stadardised ports such as a JST port there isnt really any cheap easily accessible reseller of flatflex cables and their corresponing connectors (well they can be found, but compared to JST prices you end up paying like 10x as much, per connector and cable pair), i think i did one console using them and i just used a 4 pin one i ripped from a old dvd drive, but im my experiance flex cables have a tendancy to break easily too when being inserted and removed frequently, especially if the user is a bit heavy handed.

that said for a hardmod that really shouldnt be used to frequently unless the owner is a dev doing experimental brick prone work or just someone who is obsessed with mindlessly bricking their system it would probably be sufficient if you give them a warning to avoind bending the cable excessively

My question was if anyone has done such a mod ever and which cables and connectors i need for this.
I have an idea for making it really good at the end but if i can't get such a cable with 4 or 7 Points that the rest will also not happen.
Saidly they are so diccult to find because they are used in nearly every device today.

I had to open my console the other day for unrelated reasons and I could swear than in my EU N3DS I could have done the hardmod with cables as thick as jumper wires. The mother board has several chips on each side and to accomodate for that it has a lot of space. The test pads are small, but not that bad if you have any previous experience soldering.

EDIT: And yo can source that micro USB from a broken powerbank or phone.

The points are not the problem. I dont want to make a cut into the case for the usb slot. A flexcable can be routed out of the case and the case could be closed as normal.

But at first i have to find one which is not to expensive and where you can solder to on one side. On the other side i use a connector placed inside the console. So for fladhing i just have to remove the backcase and plug in the cable. These connectors are thin enought so it's enought space into the case.

And what about poking a little hole on the back of the strap holder instead of removing it alltogether? Minimizes damage and gives you more options for cables...

EDIT: I get it, you are trying to make it clean and I am not answering your original question. I'm kind of just giving my opinion, so, sorry.
