Hello all and happy holidays!
I just got an old wii and started the journey of hacking it. I got partially through 2 guides before they had issues then one guide worked. I am left with a simi hacked wii ie hbc and it plays games in usb loader gx from hd, but cant use usb peripherals(it sees the usb hdd). No programs I get from wiibrew work ie the browser, media players, channel forwarders, for usb loader, wad managers etc. So I think I need different or more cios installed and to be pointed to when loading software. my problem seems to lie in the fact that there are many wii-u guides out but not many recent ones for the wii. What iI need is for someone to look at my syslog and tell me what needs to be updated added or removed and what software you use to do this. My end goal is to have an updated cleaned up sys. that works.
P.S. I have a nand dump with keys so am fairly brick proof and this page helped me understand oses better...but is still 5 years old..http://gwht.wikidot.com/ioses-explained
Here is my syslog

Ty for any help you may provide and have a great day regardless!!

Try putting beta 52 of d2x v10 in slot249 as 56 instead of beta53. Beta53 has compatibility issues with some games and emulated NAND that beta52 doesn't have.

Also, some games that use USB peripherals might need to be switched to IOS250. (Or possibly even add a d2x v10-beta52 as IOS248[38] and try it.)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

@GreyWolf thanks for the suggestion; I actually tried a completely different USB drive (an older one at that) and I can dump disks fine using it. I can also read ISOs/WBFS' files just fine, it just seems to be writing. All I need is a 128GB flash drive and that's overkill, hence why I didn't sprint for an actual USB hard disk drive. Guess I'll have to figure something else out.

You can use a spare SD card and Cleanrip and dump them to it then make them into WBFS files on your PC. Cleanrip should write fine to SD.

Hi Guys,
I've been away for quite a while, and i've just hooked up my Wii again, looking to get it up to date (if needed)? (I never really understood any of this stuff anyway)
I have HBC and Priiloader installed.
Got a new copy of WiiFlow (4.2.1?) installed on SDcard
Currently moving all my WBFS files back to the HDD with Wii backup manager.
Been reading lots..
Do you think i need to update?

Actually, just tried to run a couple of games to test it, and they don't run.. after about 10 seconds it goes back to the wii system menu..
So what's the best way to update the wii from it's current state?
Would like to have it pretty much the same with HBC and priiloader, but booting straight to wiiflow (it doesn't do that now)

You have to update your cIOS, your system are out of date... Run Modmii and redo all the things via Modmii for your system menu and you will be ok. It will update all your system.

Ok did all that... seems to be all running ok, but WiiFlow still does the same thing.
Tries to start the game, but then goes back to Sysmenu..

Nice, all seems ok now :-) Did you try with another loader like USBLoader Gx to see if it will do the same thing, just to see if it fix the problem or it will be the same.

Loading up configurable loader atm to test it..

Which says.. ERROR : custom IOS 248 could not be found (changing that to use 224)

Ok first game works fine ...

But Configurable loader seems unstable to me...

And i prefer Wiiflow anyway...
Just gotta work out what i've done wrong :)
Is there a way to 'reset' wiiflow to tell it where to find the games etc?

IDK because I don't use it but I'm sure somebody else can help you with WiiFlow.

You don't have an IOS248. :P Try setting CFG to use 249. Are you sure it's the latest CFG loader? I thought it defaulted to 249.

pretty sure i got the latest yes.. and that's what i thought too... (when it's starting it says you NEED 249)
But in the setup guide it says this:
On any machine, open sd:/apps/USBLoader/meta.xml in your favourite text editor and do the following:
  1. Find the line </app> towards the end of the file.
  2. Depending on which ios you want to use as default (248 is recommended) add one of the lines below before </app>:
    • <arguments><arg>ios=248</arg></arguments>
    • <arguments><arg>ios=224-mload</arg></arguments>
  3. Save your changes to meta.xml.
  4. Configurable USB Loader is now ready to be used. Check the information below to see how to use it.
i'll get back to it tonight and see if changing that to 249 helps...

But that doesn't explain why WiiFlow doesn't work

pretty sure i got the latest yes.. and that's what i thought too...

WiiFlow is really flaky setting it up. Try looking for an app called "Wiiflow Start Configurator". It will let you set the loader's cIOS from outside of the app.

Cheers

But didn't seem to do anything to help..
Seems to be the same issue as these guys?
https://github.com/WhiteNeo/wiiflow/issues/557

I've tried setting 'Force cIOS load' to ON and it now seems to work!
Will continue to check :)

I am wondering if it possible to restore nintendo's system software to the wii. I modded my first one and then tried to update it via nintendo update and now when i start my wii it goes to a different loader thing instead of the wii menu. since then i have successfully modded another wii with a cios installer, usb loader gx, nintendont, and a media player. Any suggestions on how to fix the first one.

If you installed an official update via network update or a disc one then it probably put stubs in any cIOS slots you had. You should be able to reinstall them.

Hi guys I'm looking for some help as I'm about to pull my hair out! I've successfully missed my Wii, added the homebrew channel and ran SNES and nes emulators but my trouble starts with wiiflow. I can't seem to find where to put my roms as left in the SNES/ ROMs folder doesn't seem to work. If I'd never seen wiiflow working with its jazzy covers then I would of been happy running emulators from the home screen..........Please help me....

Hi guys I'm new to this Wii modding stuff and I've run into a bit of a problem. I've successfully modded my Wii and added the homebrew channel and ran emulators without problem but I can't seem to get Wii flow to work. I know it won't automatically download covers for older consoles but my problem is where do I put my SNES ROMs?

How would one load SNES, NES emulator into home brew? And how does one get a mod on my wii so I can just download the wii games I want to play and not pay stupid amounts of money for them?

There are tons of posts on this site about your first two questions already. As to your third: go buy the games if you like them and you want to play them. Nobody here can or will tell you where to get pirated games.
