I have official gotten the application to work. Pointers for those who have same trouble as me:

Use the Application BEFORE plugging the NES Mini in. Press Dump Kernel/Patch Kernel/Add Games.. THEN follow instructions on screen.. As soon as the directions disappear, LET GO OF THE RESET BUTTON IMMEDIATELY.. That last part resulted into "broken pipe" a few times.

I've not posted on here for years but the nes mini hack has brought me back. :) Awesome work but unfortunately I've been trying for ages to get it to work but have this same issue...

Using the EU version of the Classic I'm able to follow all steps but 1) the LED light does not turn off even after leaving for 15 minutes, and 2) when turning off and back on again, the selected games do not appear in the menu.

...Sadly it's not working for me too as it just doesn't upload to my mini as the light stays on too?? Hopefully you can work out a fix for this as I've seen others post the same issues on reddit? :(

Working on my nes mini:

- Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) MMC3 Loopy's hack
- Megaman (U)
- Megaman 3 (U) with minor graphic glitch on stage select screen.
- Megaman 4, 5 and 6 (U) with some sound glitches. The sfx of Megaman touching the floor and some buster hits sounds glitched. Also the "bells" on Megaman 6 intro.
- Contra (U)
- Little Samson (U)
- TMNT: Tournament Fighters (U)
- TMNT 3: Manhattan project (U)
- Crystalis (U) minor graphic glitch.
- Little Nemo - The dream master (U) minor graphic glitch.
- Castlevania 3 (U)
- Tetris (U)
- Ducktales (U)
- Felix the cat (U) screen looks darker than normal.
- Tiny Toons Adventures (U)
- Tiny Toons Adventures 2 - Trouble in Wackyland (U)
- Mighty Final Fight (U)
- River City Ransom (U)
- Bucky O'Hare (U)
- Nintendo World Cup (U)

Can anyone confirm if this is a virus? And what are the chances of bricking?

Ok, so I have it working. For anyone that's been having the same issues I have, I did the below and it worked.

On whatever version of the software you're using at the moment. Unplug the NES, select flash original kernel, follow the steps and hopefully you will have no pipe errors. Then delete your current installation. This should get you back to a clean NES. Then...
  • Turn off Windows Defender (might not be needed but previously I'd transferred from a mac via USB stick)
  • Download the latest version of the software
  • Run the software again while the NES is unplugged
  • Select the dump kernel option and follow the steps
  • Unplug the NES
  • Select flash custom kernel option
  • Unplug the NES
  • Add ROM's to the program
  • Select upload selected games and follow steps
Hopefully like me you'll now have the LED turn off correctly once completed and your NES won't restart, hope that is of use to some people.

Thanks!

I tried this and its not working for me. All the steps appear to work but while waiting for the LED to power off, the NES Mini powers on into Demo Mode....Ohh well. I own all the games anyway that I want to play. Cartridge it is for me.

Hi there
Thank you for the flashing tool and thank you guys for the work done on the nes and thank you guys who tried and managed to add roms.
Unfortunately i'm having issue with flashing the custom kernel, my nes is stuck in a boot loop.
But i can flash the original kernel and it boots just fine.
Anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it?

Unplug the NES Mini
Run Flash Custom Kernel
Onscreen instructions will appear
Plus in NES Mini
Boot into FEL and the onscreen instructions will go away. As soon as the instructions go away then release the buttons.

This should work.

where can i find all the info for the roms? release date and publisher is hard enough to find some games it looks to be impossible... but trying each game to find out if it support 2 players, that's gonna take time!
ohh why are nt all games supported? i mean nintendo itself can't geet nes emulation accurate enough?

Surely the quickest way to find if a game supports two players is to load it up in an emulator on your PC and read the title screen?

I got the text "you can upload games now" <---At this part push okay to the textbox & Power off the NES and unplug the USB.

Plus in NES Mini
Press Upload the games now...Instructions will pop up.
Boot into FEL. Once the onscreen instructions goes away release the buttons.
Once your games upload successfully, Press okay and if it worked your LED should go out by itself after 10-20 secs.

For me it does not go out but instead boots into Demo/Play mode which is should not do.
