I wonder what nintendo is going to do about region lock in switch... Probably almost all users want that removed but unfortunately it's nintendo we're talking about so i expect the worse.
Look at OP that has a list of key rumours, region lock is said to have been removed

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The recent story of Nintendo shows they doesn't compite on Hw level, so I think they will not say, for example:
- CPU/GPU model and power
- RAM available

So the speculation will continue until near the launch date when a reviewer or "early adopter" disassembly the console and give us the info.

At 12 I think they will say:
- Price
- Launch day line-up
- Eshop replace system maybe
- Controllers and other usability features of the console.

Again... this is my opinion and pure and simple speculation too... so the best thing we can do is wait to the 12 and see... so, so late in my country... I see the event live at Jan 13, 01:00 AM (GMT -3)
I doubt eshop will be replaced, most likely improved. Specs are sure to become a reality, Nvidia will definitely release the specs of the switch.

I have no reason to doubt these revealed specs. With the form factor, heat is an issue. With the battery, power is an issue. This thing won't come close to XB1/PS4 performance. I'm not one to scream about the need for cutting edge specs, but another Nintendo console that can't match MS/Sony means very little interest from 3rd parties, and that is a problem for me.

The specs dont make sense for a machine that can run UE4 at high settings (medium is like 1.5)
Theres definitely something going on in the background for this machine to even reach this kind of graphical level. Stock X1 probably cant get past 1.4 but dont take my word on that.

UE4 is very flexible so I can see it running very smoothly at any "settings" if a dev has designed the UE4 demonstration specifically to demonstrate how smooth it runs on that hardware. What is important is if a game designed to look its best on PS4/XB1 can also reach about the same performance and quality on the Switch.

I guess what I'm saying, is I have no idea what running UE4 at 1080p on high settings means without context of what UE4 is rendering on screen. Is it UE4 with a couple moving textures running at 60fps at 1080p at "high settings"? Or is it Gears of War 4 multiplayer running at 60fp at 1080p at "high settings"?

I apologize if you've already provided this information. It's not in the OP, and it would be grueling to look through this entire thread.

Nintendo DOES publish hardware specs on their website, though, and given the fact that NVidia has blogged about their involvement I'm guessing they'll be pressing Nintendo to give at least broad specs of the hardware inside

You should expect Nvidia to brag about the spec once that happens.

Can you please provide the links?
All I see in Nintendo's website is
WiiU:
CPU
IBM Power®-based multi-core processor setup.
GPU
AMD Radeon™-based High Definition GPU.

That's clearly not a useful (in this context) hardware specs.

Also, I wonder which wins: the pressure from Nvidia to Nintendo to brag about the hw or the pressure from Nintendo to Nvidia to not do it,

Again, better wait for Jan 12 to see what happens.

Never mind, that's what I was referring to, I just thought they provided more info than that

God forbid Nvidia have to stick with the PC market they already have a stranglehold on
Its not great for a business to lose out on money, nvidia want the console and pc business.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I would love some butthurt Wii U owner consolation program from Nintendo.
Something like bring the games you bought for our dead console and get the equivalent ports for free! Because people can dream!
I'd love that, would make sense for MK8.5 and Splatoon, but what about disc titles?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

You guys think some Switch info will come out of CES?

I doubt that Nvidia will reveal anything about the switch

I would love this too, but I can't believe it happens... nintendo is the king of making us buy the same games again

I mean, that's literally all we would need to determine its performance range. If they were gonna reveal this stuff there'd be no reason to not reveal other specs as well.

I wouldn't worry too much, near-XB1 power is easily achievable for $250 in 2017. They're not going to make it significantly less powerful than that, because the idea is to make ports easy. Multiple devs have reported that porting to Switch is very easy, and hell, the rumor is that Skyrim SE will be a launch title. If true, it only took them a few months to get it fully running on Switch.

Near xb1 power for $250 is achievable. Near xb1 power at much lower wattage and stays cool in a handheld form factor is not.
