I think it is funny that people don't think this would be a good idea. I don't agree that they should focus just on mobile gaming, but I do think that Nintendo has ran out of time to produce a good console for this generation or any generation from now on. The issue I see with the Switch is the launch window. At this time a factory refurb Xbox One can be purchased at $199, black friday will bring the price down for that window of time, come March at the launch of the switch a price cut will likely happen on their new consoles. When the Switch launches it will easily be $300-400 just based on all the shit they are doing, knowing this and that far superior consoles are much cheaper, where is the market? Switch will be another WII U, OK concept destroyed by bad timing.

And people that play the nintendo innovates card, other than WII Sports promoting shovelware, has any nintendo home console innovation really did good for their games for these past generations? We get waggle controls in games that don't need it, and off screen gameplay.

Overall I just think that nintendo would fair much better releasing higher quality games on a platform that people actually buy (mobile devices or competing consoles).

I am still waiting for animal crossing mobile, I think that will be something.

In the mean time, yeah if nintendo were to fail, I would be ok with them selling off their stuff to sony. Could you imagine playing mario galaxy on a ps4? hnnngggg

Nintendo: Releases a tablet using long-standing mobile architecture, opening doors for mobile games on a dedicated game console and future-proofing games developed for the console so they're easily ported or supported in future or even competitor's hardware for some time to come.

Investors: This better fail so Nintendo can get into the mobile market.

What makes you think it is Nintendo's intention to use a long-standing mobile architecture, and make their games easily portable to competitors' platforms? We know nothing about the system architecture of the Switch, and Nintendo certainly hasn't indicated that they are looking to port their software to other platforms in the future.

It uses a custom Tegra SoC, that much we do know as a fact. The rest is just speculation as I seriously don't expect Nintendo to port their games to devices other than their own, but using a standard architecture like this suggests their future consoles will be backward compatible if they stick with nVidia. It's just a convenience that games designed for Switch (not necessarily Nintendo's) could likely be easily ported to other mobile devices.

I was more or less bringing attention to investors wanting Nintendo to put all their effort into mobile despite that being precisely what they're doing. What investors really want is Nintendo to go full third party.

Fuck mobile games. They are shitty ad fulled and low quality games. I prefer a handheld if i need portable games
if you play the free to play titles ofc they are add filled... most paid apps are amazing. and i would love to see official ports of gb/gba/ds/and maybe 3ds games to the phone for like 2-10$ depending on the game.... i already use an emu as is so i know most work. cwpt 3ds but we are getting there xD hell the phone plays ds games better then the ds.

So again before you make such a retarded post again try to think first.

I will not follow Nintendo on their trip to the mobile field, so I hope it doesn't come to that. The best games on mobile were ported from consoles (Grand Theft Auto) and the controls seriously suffered due to the assish nature of complete touch controls, so no thanks.
not true at all there is alot of first party phone titles that r great.. and alot of great ports as u have said.

Buy a moga if u want to play gta btw.

From a financial point of view, they actually have a point. As an investor you would like to make profit and certainly the switch did not perform very well in the stock-market launch day. Instant profitability for nintendo might come from copies of the last trendy, social, mobile app Pokemon GO. Investors think the world wants shitty, ad filled, dlc powered, free to play+pay to win apps. So recovering the investment from this seems the quickest way to make money, and time is gold.

Nintendo's stock PLUMMETED after iMario came out.

I find this a little funny, and a sign of what would've happened anyways. The complaints against Mario Run's pricing structure would be similar to a true game, and very few of Nintendo's games port well to a touch interface. If Nintendo actually made free to play games then they would be out of their experinc zone and competing with King and Zyinga, all the while dragging their IP through the mud.

Yep, screw mobile games. I cannot stand that platform of choice for games, as you use a proper dedicated console imo. The only thing a smart phone is useful for, is emulation and then again, I hardly use it and prefer the original hardware over it anyday.

Investors thinking that Nintendo can only succeed in the mobile market if they abandon the console market is not only short sighted, it is absolutely dumb. Nintendo knows how to succeed in the console market and will probably be the last company to exit. It is more likely for Microsoft and Sony to abandon the console market. Afterall, there is proof of this in what happened to the Vita. Sony abandoned the Vita because it was competing with IOS and Android devices. On the other hand, Nintendo stuck with the 3DS despite a bad start and continued to support it with great games. The sales performance of Pokemon Sun/Moon in November is only proof that Nintendo is on the right path of strengthening IP recognition by making them available to more platforms while keeping premium gaming experiences on their console platforms.

That Nintendo dont know anything but the investors do?
Okay, well, its half half in my eyes. They could do both, make a bit cash with short living apps and make for us our games and consoles <3
No. I am saying investors should listen to Nintendo sometimes. How did Nintendo's investor get so stupid?
