So, recently at a garage sale, I bought an xbox 360, and when I got home, and plugged it in, it worked great, popped in halo, but once i got deep into the game, about 5 minutes, it got hot, and froze. it gave me the RROD. Does anybody know how to fix this? There some way to use hacks or homebrew to mod this to stop it from doing it again?

If it's one from '05 or '06 then I got bad news for you.
Trash it and purchase a better one.

If you want to spend time and money on it which TOTALLY ISN'T WORTH IT!
Then go ahead and do a reball.
Any other "trick" to remove RROD is just extending the inevitable.
It'll RROD again regardless.

Scrap it for parts, you'll be able to make your money back by just selling the heatsinks.

If the solder isn't broken, can't you still fix it without reballing service? I had several where the solder had no breaks that I just fixed and years later, my kids are still playing them regularly. The only time I ever see the solder breaks is when someone tries the dumb towel trick or similar temp fix. In cases I have seen, the normal 360 overheat shutdown has a chance to save the console from solder breaks.

Just my 2 cents.. maybe not worth 2 cents :)

It'll RROD again, only a matter of time.
Reballing is the only solid solution.
