Well for DS games, you could play them with the two horizontal screens; left and right and using the controls or turn it sideways (top and bottom screens) and use a wireless JoyCon controller. For Wii games, you would have to use wireless JoyCon controllers that emulate the Wiimote and numbchuck controllers, obviously. If they don't add Wii VC games to the NS, then they're wasting their time adding them to the Wii U eShop, which is on a "soon to be" dead console.

Wii U games will ported over, instead of emulated. As for 3DS games, they won't be available, at least not until a few years later when they discontinue the 3DS and then add them to the VC, like how the Wii U got DS games, once the DS was discontinued.

Amazing to see people over the last few years bitch and moan about how Nintendo's current system is a big fail, then bitch and moan when the next system isn't backwards compatible with it.

The lack of native backwards compatibility w/ its predecessor is one of the best things the Switch has going for it. Nintendo's been clinging to that safety line since 2001.

So you only want to play it for NS games only? That would be very "bare bones". This isn't 1996 where only N64 games were playable and NES, SNES, and Game Boy games weren't.

Did I say that? No, I'm actually preying hard for GCN VC, and other legacy systems too. Even though I own real ones with flashcarts or mods for them anyway. I was talking about architecture, and not incorporating the corpse of your last product into the body of the new one.

As long as it has both touch screen and motion controls; that somewhat confirms that DS and Wii games will be playable, and eventually 3DS games, after they stop making them.

Wii U games will be ported and even if they could be emulated, they still wouldn't add them since that was Nintendo's biggest flop in years! I mean we still don't have Virtual Boy games.

Speaking of which, the Wii U is kinda like the Virtual Boy; bad console but good games.

Pratically, every Nintendo videogame have backward compatibility, GBA loads GB games, DS loads GBA games and 3DS loads DS games, but will Switch load 3DS or Wii U games?
Here's a photo of the ''airport guy'', and how u can see, he's introducing an cartridge on the Switch.
not hardware backward compatibility, like your examples. Different architecture.

-There's a possibility for 3ds partial emulation, as it's conceivable that the architecture is similar enough to emulate more easily.
This is highly unlikely, but if we're going to see anything beyond pure emulation, this'll be it.

-Wii U is out as it would have to be completely emulated, and the switch will not be powerful enough for that.

All current emulators they currently have will have to be rewritten for Switch. So don't expect everything that's currently emulated on the Wii U/3ds to be available on the switch day 1. But they'll get around to all of them eventually I'm sure.

it's powerful enough for gamecube emulators potentially, so they may announce limited amounts of popular games over the course of the system's lifetime.

Maybe the Wii U but not the 3DS.

The 3DS and Wii U took a few months to get existing VC games, so I assume It'll take a few months for the NS to get them, too. They might start off with GCN games, then later include the NES, SNES, N64, GBA, and DS library of games. Wii games will probably come later, too. The only two that are completely out of the question are, Wii U (obviously) and 3DS (See my earlier posts).

The 3DS games will take much longer than usual, compared to the others because not only is it more recent, but emulating it will be a little bit harder than say DS or Wii games.

At worst, we probably wouldn't see GCN games on the NS, until maybe June, similar to how we didn't get GB and GBC games on the 3DS, until a few months after it launched.

On the Wii U, it was even slower, we only got a few NES and SNES games from January to July 2013 for 30 cents and then they finally launched the Virtual Console in April of that year.

So the NS will be no different than the 3DS and Wii U, when it comes to launching VC games. Emulation is not as easy as everyone thinks it is.

Switch could definitely kill the 3DS. The thing is about, if not, 6 years old.
Hardware BC is pretty much obsolete in 2016, maybe not in 2006, but defiantly in 2016.
Not really. If and when Nintendo makes a Switch 2, I would be surprise if it isn't hardware BC. Not to mention, Xbox 1 has it partially. The only reason Switch isn't hardware BC, because they didn't have choice.

"If" it can emulate gamecube, it can emulate the 3DS.

since the arm architecture is very different, i agree for the most part. but there are, from my understanding, enough close instructions that it's not completely foreign like the wii or wii u. which means less overhead in emulation, which hopefully means not impossible to emulate well. given there's a touchscreen. though i wouldn't want to play two screens on one. lol i still agree with your assessment, though mainly because it makes less sense than just selling old 3ds stock still on the shelves lolol

agreed. provided it's the same architecture or close enough to allow it. that's a big if though.

The only physical BC that I can think of that exists are Xbox 360 discs on the Xbox One. PS4 isn't BC with PS1, PS2, or PS3 and of course the Wii U doesn't count since that's now a last gen console.

The size and processor of the NS is why there's no physical BC, that and not enough room for a disc drive and think God because the PSP had those awful easily breakable UMD discs. They were so breakable that all of my games were pretty much broke and I had to pitch them. I don't want to see the NS do the same thing that the PSP did with discs so it's a good idea they used cartridges instead. My only concern is they need stop showing the chip visible like they did with the DS and 3DS cards. Most of my DS games take forever to read and so I added the ROMs onto a flash cartridge and can only play them on my DSi XL. 3DS and N3DS blocks them because, well they're flashcarts. So having DS VC games on the NS is a MUST!!

Seriously, GB, GBC, and GBA games still work better because their chips are covered up well with the plastic of their cartridges, unlike the DS and 3DS games.

What is the Problem ? Wikipedia says the Wii U has a 32bit Processor (not an Arm) therefore they could easilly Port it (maybe to 64bit ?)My Source :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso_(microprocessor)

Edit: For the Wii it's not possible except they include a native Arm Core <3

According to Nintendo it isn"t going to be backwards compatible, but it is going to have Virtual Console (even so it doesn"t mean that there are going to be 3DS and Wii U Virtual Console) that will let to play some older consoles games in the Switch.

I think it would be a waste of Developement to not include Super Mario 3D Land and NSMBU (Especially NSMBU because they said it would be the last "2D" Mario :()

Well, at least is know of Wii and Game Cube Virtual Console, there"s also the possibility that NIntendo decide to make new versions, remakes or remaster versions of 3DS and Wii U games like how it happened in the 3DS and WIi U with the Wii and Game Cube.

Backwards compatibility is not needed. why add to the cost. id rather have more power then backwards compatibility. why can people just keep their old consoles? i dont want to hear not enough room. give me a sensible reason

Someone like me who is 14 can't afford a Wii U for around 350€ ?
(I could but I don't want to because the Console is how already said dead and there is Cemu outside...but for portability I would like to have play it on the Switch and u are not forced to buy the VC Games (you can keep your Console ^^ or you can give it me ;))

Amazon is sold out and on Ebay are just Replacements -.- and I don't want to solder with Chips (most of them have a broken emmc) therefore from where would I get the "cheap" Console ?
