You can do that with Universal media server or PS3 Media server and type the same IP. If you have DirectTV those cable boxes stream. I feel like people already knew this but don't watch movies on there 3DS at home (where this would work). Converting them to CIA is a little more convenient if you want them mobilized.

I use a dvd ripper then convert it to .moflex and then create a .cia and install it to 3ds. easy and simple for me. (of course, only if the dvd is not copy protected, which is acutally quite limiting).

I found that the DirectV boxes do not stream, I could not make mine do that.

Thanks to google cache (images aren't saved unfortunately)
So guys, do you know that using "Plex Media Server", the New 3ds/Wii U's HTML5 Internet browser,a computer, VLC Media Player, a computer, and some waiting, you can watch movies on New 3DS and Wii U? I'm gonna show how to play DVD's on Wii U and New 3DS! (you will able to play the movie in 3D if you make it side-by-side or red-cyan, but a normal DVD won't be able to play in 3D, but you can make it side-by-side 3D(most 3D videos use this))

Step 1: Installing Plex
Get Plex from here: http://www.filehorse.com/download-pl...-server/19553/(it's a old version because newer versions don't work)
Install it, and get the server running(you will have to make a account), once you have Plex installed and up and running the server is running).
Get your PC's IP address by typing "ipconfig" in CMD(cmd.exe as admin)(the IPv4 address is what you want)

Then type in http:\\[your computer's IP]:32400/web/
If the site loads, you have Plex Media Server installed and running!

(as you can I ripped some SpongeBob DVD's and a movie)

Step 2: Rip a DVD
You'll need VLC Media Player for this step:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

Here's a more detailed guide on how to rip the DVD from How-to-Greek:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2696/...dvds-with-vlc/

Save the DVD to: [system drive]:\Users\[your user name]\Videos\Plex\Movies(TV Shows if it's a TV Show DVD)

It will take a while! Wait for Pete's sake! It has to rip a hour long/3 GB DVD! (also when it finishes it will play the DVD menu over and over again, it woke me up at 3am when it finished
gyFrown.png
, of course, it didn't rip just the menu, it ripped the whole movie with no menus because they are useless)

Setup 3: Get the movie on Plex:
Go to the url that I showed you(http:\\[your computer's IP]:32400/web/)
Hit the + icon, select "Home Videos", and then name it "Movies" or "TV Shows" then select the folder with the ripped DVD([system drive]:\Users\[your user name]\Videos\Plex\Movies(TV Shows if it's a TV Show DVD)

The DVD will "upload"(it doesn't take a long time!), and then it will be there.

Setup 4: Accessing the DVD

Connect to the Internet(must be the same network with the PC where Plex is installed), and go to that URL I showed you(http:\\[your computer's IP]:32400/web/), then on the PC select the default streaming quality to 480p(it won't load in 720 or 1080 on the N3DS for some reason with HTML5), to do this, go to 'Settings", "Server", then "Player", then set all quailtys to 480p. Then play the movie/show on your N3DS or Wii U!(Wii U can play HD 1080/720p videos, just not N3DS). Now grab some popcorn, some soda, and enjoy your movie! (if you get a 400 bad request, end Plex Media Server with task manager, restart the server program and BE FASTER!!!)

Also, here's a bit better guide on using Plex: http://www.howtogeek.com/252261/how-...on-any-device/

NOTE: THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH 3DS, ONLY NEW 3DS.

Plex Sucks.

Plex is meh, I stream a lot of content to my systems/phones/computers/etc and plex was bad at it. I ended up using Universal Media Server to get the job done, and tbh it did a hell of a lot better than plex ever did. Not knocking the people who use plex, just wasn't a good option for me so it skewed my opinion of it.

In what way did it not work well? Was it slow or what?
