I guess most of the ppl who were involved in this translation are already gone, so I´m not putting too much hope into it, BUT as I was cleaning the attic I found my old DS and a copy of that game on the cartridge. The translation makes it playable, but not enjoyable in a "RPG-way" (no offense meant)...
I was kinda busy in the meanwhile doing my masters in Japanese and feel like translating this (compared to all the scientific shit texts i had to do in the past) easy piece of work, especially descriptions and story or other things not based on Katakana (which is fairly easy to translate even for non japanese speakers)...
If anyone is still interested, feel free to answer this! :)

Same question.anyone have a copy of the tools they can re-upload?The creator/editor uploaded it publicly so there shouldnt be any problem re-uploading however this was done awhile ago and many missed it.

I wonder for what people ask about the tools when:
1) nobody seem ready to translate this
2) if you have some idea of romhacking, you don't need those tools

So do a favor to everybody and stop ask for the tools.

Because it doesnt make sense to re-create tools when they are readily available. You tell people not to ask for tools if "you have some idea of romhacking" but in other threads you are asking for "save files"? that you can create yourself by playing through the game

you're words
"Do you have an advanced savegame for both versions??
Can you put them here to download?? "

you are telling me to do all the work making new tools when its already there. So whats the difference between me asking for "tools" already there and you asking for a "save file" (already created by someone else) when you can play the game yourself and make the save file yourself? This doesnt even require hacking.

Do everyone a favor and preach what you teach.People love to say one thing but you catch them doing something else. You could have played the game further and made the save file yourself so why didnt you?because it doesnt make sense when someone else already did this right?Same reason for me asking for these tools.

I will give you a short and easy answer:
why should i play a game i don't like to make myself a savegame??
Even if i not like the game, i can help somebody hack it.
About your tools?? If you take a look at the game and you know what you are doing, you don't need them so
good luck with a 3 years old thread.

PS: do you at least read Japanese fluently??

ya doesnt look like anyone has it. Looks like ill have to look into the game myself. By the way some people just want tools/save states etc to use on thier own free time, its not always the case that someone is trying to start a big project and open a thread to translate/work on an entire game. As a matter of fact thats the downfall of many translation projects, people starting projects/opening threads (and not finishing). If this group (whoever were in this group/project) cant finish it why not share the tool with someone who would like to work on it on thier own time?you know.

About the japanese,if say i do i have no tools to use and if i say i dont im still in the same place. How good you are at japanese doesnt matter if you have no programs/tool to go with it. Theres a higher demand for programmers than translaters which is why theres more "where is this tool, text etc" questions and never a question like "hey wheres that one translater who was here 3 years ago,i need him".

How very incorrect. There are many programmers and very few translators.

Maybe its just me then,i tend to see more members asking for tools or asking someone to code this or that program but i rarely see someone being asked to "revise this script or fix this word" outside of said project. Also i noticed a programmer can make a text editor and without a human translater use a machine like google translate, babelfish etc (i know its bad.lol) and come up with "something" at least but a translater doesnt have this luxuory. There is no program that automatically builds a "text editor, tool etc" that they can mess with and they surely cant guess random code to build a tool so the programmer has less necessities if i may use that word.

An example of this is that pokemon black/white (1or2 i forgot) translation,i believe there were 3-4 programmers but like 40 translaters?I know im stretching it lol but i remember different translaters doing different text/skits then adding em to that googledoc and giving a percentage of how much was done by adding these skits/parts together.Theres only 1 pokemon game but many different languages so 1 programmer(tool) but many translaters(workers). The most adjusting an average text editor needs is adjusting of the font so you can add the special characters for a different language. Also logically speaking most people grow up learning a language(or two or three)from family/friends while you cant say most grow up learning programming (you need a computer for this and/or college). Theres a reason only 1 person has tools for starocean for the snes and theres hundreds who want to translate it to thier language but cant.

An unfinished project doesnt necessarily mean there were few translaters to pick from,it could mean the ones who were picked were just lazy/uninterested etc...Im not putting down translaters by any means, just pointing out the fact tools for games are much harder to find (such as this).Theres lots of translaters but very few who are willing to finish a project.

I'm 100% certain if a translator started a topic and showed evidence they actually knew japanese (or whatever the source language was) and english (or whatever the destination language) and were willing to under take the translation someone would come along and handle the hacking/programming side.

EDIT: On the flip side. If a programmer wants to get a translation underway they have no choice but to ask for help or use a machine translation or give up.

And as a side note, you see more people asking for tools as for translators because there are many newbies that hope there are some tools that do all the job for them.

I will let you in a little secret, i have a little package with much of the text of this game: just ripped files from the rom that are viewable in a text editor or xml editor(that's why i said you don't need those tools) and i have given this package to at least 3 people in the last year that asked me because they wanted to translate it.
Till today, i not get 1 word translated back.

@Auryn At least you agree with me that there are indeed more people asking for tools/editors/extracters etc (wether they ask for it because they are lazy or clueless to programming is another story) and also thats exactly what i said, you got 3 translaters fast (or so called translaters) but they were the lazy/uninterested variety.lol. Im guessing you used a tool like dsbuff, dslazy etc to unpack and one of the many decompressors out there then any text editor to translate. This is the route im going to take.

@Normmatt Though you dont agree with me on this i will agree with you on 1 thing,i noticed while theres few programmers the few that are there are almost always willing to help while translaters (which are many) are always jumping on projects when they arent truely dedicated. But yes if someone says they speak 2 languages and start a thread for help a programmer most likely will reply and say they will help make tools but i doubt you would get 3-6 programmers fighting to make the tool.

I was able to find a small english patch for this game... tried it, and got hooked. It's clearly shamelessly ripping off Monster Hunter, but I love it, it's like a mini version of that game. I really wish someone would fully patch this. And especially Element Hunters, that one also reminds me of another game, Phantasy Star Zero, but it's somehow pretty confusing.
Here's the patch for Cross Treasures without ROM: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=92716781793169293019
Oh, and I had to ignore the user with the incredibly disgusting picture...

Does anybody still have Zarcon's patch? Pleeeasse! (That one above is the old one.) I can't private message anybody who was active in this thread that's been on recently.. (I think it's because I'm new? Ugh.)

Depressingly, I've been re-doing almost everything they did (for the past week, though I'm new to this), but I'd love if I could get their translations. I haven't touched medals or skill descriptions, and I'm unable to do any of the story or images, but I've been trying to replace all the common text. (As well as making skill names in English when talking to Skill Givers.)

Also! I've fixed the item issue where half the items were listed wrong. (Took me forever!) ..and I'm doing fixes to the items and equipment, adding spaces between words and vowels to others, as the original translator made most of them 12 characters max. (Even though it allows 15 characters.)

PS. I don't know how to make an xdelta patch yet, but I'm guessing I use a program to compare my ROM with the original ROM and it'll give me a patch with the differences? I hope it's that simple.

Depressingly?? I think it sucks you think that way, because I think it's AMAZING someone is finally working on this game again..... man, I should learn to do it too, since of course everyone's able to do at least some kind of progress by just using google translate, and google itself. But I mean I usually start lots of different projects and rarely finish anything.. I hope you can get some kind of support for translating the game here, since you're new.

Oh, and it seems I'm able to send private messages, so if you need me to, just tell me to who, and what do I say.

And, well, how difficult was it learning to use the programs to modify the text in the game?
