I've added two new job openings to the first post.

As for an update on the project, the majority of initial translation for the first part of the menu text is near complete. We are now checking in-game to verify item, Force skill, Force song, etc. effects are accurate to their descriptions. As well as fixing text-related bugs and ensuring that nothing has broken from the text insertion and my increasingly numerous assembly modifications.

Please realize that when I say first part of the menu text, while that entails a large chunk of menu related text, there are two other parts to this.

The second part is menu text that is formatted the same as the script. The majority of this is in-game messages that either ask the player a question or notifies the player of something. Also, stuff like the tutorials.

The third part is the textures, which are quite numerous. These will need to be edited in a program such as Photoshop, to remove the Japanese text and replace with English text. There are two types of these.

The traditional textures, that can be edited and converted back to their original format, finally to be inserted into the game.

And the MLX textures. The MLX textures consist mostly of menu related stuff and they differ by having multiple images crammed together into one image. There are set values for the vertices of each texture in the image. The category tabs for the Items menu, that I posted my work on awhile ago, is an example of this. These generally require more work, because English text usually takes up more space. Which means that I have to rearrange these textures and sometimes increase the size of the entire image. And when I do that, I have to find the values for each texture in that image that has moved. And I have to change those values to account for the new positioning and size of the textures.

If you need someone to do texture editing still, I have some experience. Including originals for comparison. (Includes some older ones I did for a group's translation of an RPG Maker game.)

I'll keep you in mind for the near future, once translation work on the textures start up.

Hi there !
I post here to show my support towards this project !
I beat this game recently on PPSSPP (all Heroine Endings ^^) thank to the translation of cyberakuma/mechgouki, but I would be glad to see the entire game translated !

Also, I would like to inform you that a guy called chebuoi has translated a big part of the database of the game, as you can see here (warning there are many sheets to read : do not forget to use the arrows below to read every sheets) :
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...RGG06t_HProSFEAqbiTrg/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=1
Note : You can download this file as an .xlsx file if you want by clicking on "File" in the top bar.

BTW, if somebody is interested into making an English patch for Shining Resonance (PS3), a similar translated database has been done by a guy called Master LL :

domsxcela, for japanese and coding you need to have already some experience, as both require time (months, years) to learn, for editing it's still kind of early, but do you mean text editing (rechecking translations) or image editing?

ValkyrieXY, (un)fortunately we have already translated most of the contents of those sheets (kinda better too if you ask me), still thanks for the interest!
If we are going to translate other games in the series they are probably going to be the other entries for psp (hacking is already done, more members owe a psp), still it's far too early to talk about this.

This is cyberakuma AKA mechgouki.

You have permission to use my translations. But I must request that you retain the character names that I have chosen.

Some character names, both possibilities are correct. For example, Reiji and Rage are both correct. Jinkurou and Jincrow are both correct. For Misty, he loading screen displays her name as Mistral. I believe that is inaccurate.

For Surt, Surtr is also correct. But if you are going to set his name as "Slut" (which is literally how the official website spells his name), then I request you use someone else's translation. :P

Also keep in mind that I only translated events, not dialogue boxes. For multi-option events, I only translated the path with the best results.

Wow, they really had to bend over backwards for that one. If you just mixed up the L/R it would be Sult. I think this mistake has been made before.

Yukihime
Altina
Elmina
Misty
Sakuya
Rick
Roselinde
Touka
Rinrin
Fenrir
Ryuuna
Gouryuuki
Aira
Ranah
Jinkurou
Clalaclan
Dyran
Isari
Kanon
Ein
Gadem
Kaito
Kerberos

Those look fine to me. I'd want to change Dyran to Dylan; that's the only one. That's not a full list though.

It's been a while, but as I recall, I chose Dyran because it was spelt so in the character loading screen.

Mind you, the character loading screen is not 100% accurate, Mistral being one of them. Also I can't remember how they spelt Ranah's name. Was it "Rana"?

I also insist on using Kerberos instead of Cerberus.

Slut is how they spelt his name on the official website. His name is Su ru to, which accurately translates to Surt or Surtr, the fire demon.

Names like Reiji and Rage, I am not particular, because both are correct.

Ranah is official from something else. It's how they spell it in the Shining Wiki. I'm OK with that.
Kerberos is a stylistic choice, I'm OK with that.
I'm not a member of this project team; you'll need to hear from them. But using your names I don't think will be a problem.
If you search Shining Dyran and Shining Dylan both get lots of results. I don't think either is really incorrect.

Actually Mistral is her official name, but Misty is correct too. Her name is Mistral, but the character call her by her Nickname (Misty)

For Dylan/Dyran. Dyran was an innacurate translation of the loading screen. In the official translation of Blade arcus and the Artbook, he is named Dylan.

there is Also some innacurate translation dues to low level in english of the creator of the previous games.

According to Tsuyoshi sawada (the producer of the game) during the prod of Shining tears, the complete name of Aira is Aira Blanc neige Guardania (it's a reference of the original Shining force, Aira is a descendant of Anri)

But the writer of the story made an error by spelling her name and she was named Aira Blanc neige Gardenias in the final game.

In the same interview, he call Shildia Shieldia (once again, he said it's a reference to Shining Force where the main Town is Guardania), and once the writer didn't remebered that and change it to Shildia

For Rage, as you said, both are accurate, his real name is Reiji (as he came from our World) but people from Endias call him Rage.

So the most accurate would be to make Touka, Kanon, Ein and Kaito call him Reiji and to other one calling him Rage

Mistral is her official name in Shining Hearts.

However, never once in Shining Blade was her name referred to as Mistral, with the exception being in the loading screen.

So as far as I can tell. Her official name is Misty, in Shining Blade.

The products seem to indicate that both are correct though.

Hi cyberakuma, thanks for your interest, I'll leave here a list of the translations that we have chosen for (many of) the names of the main characters, we have changed a couple from your choices, tell me what you think about them.
edit: removed list, as we are discussing internally about names and several may or may not have changed since this post.

We're hoping to start picking the pace up a little more again in the coming weeks. Things have been busy for all three of us lately. About the names, we do have the recently released Blade Arcus game that features characters from Blade and Hearts to use as a reference. For example, they use Dylan and Misty. I have to discuss things with the team before we settle on a route for the names.

Personally, I would really like to get out a complete menu patch first before we worry too much about the script. Even with the translation work done by cyberakuma, it's still going to take awhile to get it all in the game and working right. And there are a lot of texture files that contain text. Those need to be translated and then edited. That will take a good deal of time.

Don't forget to also use the offical translation of Shining Tears and the anime Wind x Tears and Shining hearts bread of Happiness as reference as most of the other character from Shining blade appears in these games (even if Shining Hearts take place after Blade in an illusionary world)

I just noticed this project, seems to be a part of the Shining Series? If so, that's pretty awesome.
It's sad how so many Shining games were left in Japan.

Hi.

I am very particular about names, so I will have to request for consistency in my chosen names if you decide to use my translations.

I cannot have a situation where you decide to use my translation, but completely rewrite the names. Please understand.

Amil is the official name. Here is one proof:
http://en.kotobukiya.co.jp/product/product-0000001402/

Aira is also official
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/151799929706-0-1/s-l1000.jpg

Also, Kaito's name was never once referred to, or spelt as Kite. So I will have to insist it stays as Kaito.

Jincrow and Jinkurou are both correct.

Fafner and Balder are both the spellings listed in the official website. (Which incidentally listed him as Slut.) While Fafnir and Baldr are not incorrect, I request that you use Fafner and Balder.

Dyran was one which was officially spelt so in the loading screen. I did not choose Dyran out of personal preference. If there is any other official spelling I would like to see it.

I really have to insist that you stick to my chosen names should you decide to use my translations. I really hope you understand.

By "official", do you actually mean from fansubbers?

Just some notes on the names:
  • Kaito has official kanji for his name, so it should remain Kaito, rather than Kite. It's also recognized as Kaito on
    http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/video-games/Shining-Blade/
  • Amil/Amyl doesn't appear to come from Norse mythology but is listed as Amil on the site. Amyl isn't necessarily wrong.
  • Fafnir and Baldr are names from Norse mythology.
Fafner isn't a valid spelling for Fafnir, but the katakana is ファフナー rather than ファフニール, so I can understand using Fafner instead.
Baldr on the other hand uses バルドル, which is consistent with the actual katakana for Baldr, the Norse god's name. Balder is an uncommon spelling and is not recognizable to the extend that Baldr or Baldur are. I'd say let them use Baldr or Baldur rather than Balder, though it is listed as Balder on that site.
  • As for Aira, there is a river in England called Aira. Its name comes from Old Norse, so Aira would be the correct spelling. It's also listed as Aira on that site.
  • Jin-Crow is the recognized spelling of his name in English, specifically in places listing his voice actor:
    http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/characters/Shining/Jin-Crow/
