Tutorial  Updated

Transferring Saves between different regions

It's possible to transfer save files from one region to another, through an app called JK Save Manager. SVDT also, but for the sake of this tutorial I will be using JK Save Manager. This is nothing new, I just decided to write up a tutorial for those who are new to the scene and are wondering how to transfer saves. Rhythm Tengoku: The Best Plus is an example of a Japanese game, in which you could export & Import it's save into the USA/EUR version of Rhythm Heaven Megamix. Basically, the saves you export can be imported on any region of the game. Also anybody can import the save, not just you. So feel free to share your saves with the community!

Note: It's been reported that not every game can have it's save transferred, such as Monster Hunter 4G to MH4U for example. Most games can have it's save transferred though.

JK Save Manager

Exporting the save

1) Install JK Save Manager's cia and launch the app
2) Let JK Save Manager load up your list of titles. Choose refresh games if necessary. For every new game you install on your 3DS, you'll have to refresh this list for it to show up at all. It basically cache's your list of games forever.
3) Go to "SD/Cia" and choose the game that you plan to export from
4) Choose "Export save" and choose "new". Name it anything you want, I prefer to name mine based on the date
5) Now look for the other game you wish to import the save to and export the save
(Note: You must have launched the game at least once for it to create save data, before you'll be able to export this save)
6) Keep pressing B until the app exits out

Importing the save

1) Put your SD card into a computer (This step can also be done with CTRXplorer on your 3DS if you know how to use it)
2) Navigate into "SD:/JKSV/Saves/(NameofGame)/
3) Once in the game's folder, copy all files in this directory
4) Go back once, and go into the target game's folder that you wish to import the save for
5) Paste the files here, and choose replace.
6) Put the SD back into the 3DS and launch JK Save Manager
7) Go to "SD/Cia", then your target game that you're importing for
8) Choose "Import save file" and it will import the save
9) Keep pressing B until it exits out
10) Launch your game and see if the save file works (Which it should)

Done!

FYI that font you are using in your post is created to be easier to read on paper. If you want to use an arbitrary font maybe you can use sans-serif, verdana or georgia which are designed to be screen readable.

This is not always the case! Monster Hunter 4G save was not compatible with Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Adjustments were necessary (simple ones though).

That, and the color isn't DarkTemp friendly.

But does this tutorial uses what game format?

Jap:3ds
Usa:Cia

Or

Jap:Cia
Usa:3ds

Or both .3ds or both .cia files?
Extra steps are needed to transfer between .3ds and .cia. The steps outlined in the OP (as of this writing) are for .cia saves I believe.

Edit: just wanted to add, the above steps also work for Card2 games such as the Pokemon games and ACNL, whether they are in .3ds or .cia format.

I installed USA version of ACNL on my JPN 3DS and running with Luma3DS's cross-region compatible patch. After some time I want to try the NTR trainer and did the similar steps like this tutorial and create a new locale txt file in order to make the trainer working properly, but the save is corrupted after doing so, only removing the locale txt would make the save loads again.

I'm wondering if anyone else did this before, what should I try next?

I highly doubt it will work for MHX.
MH4U is an example. The userX file has too be edited due to the offset difference.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Most Games should work, but issue may also occur during the game play (JPN to US/EUR) US <-> EUR should be fine

@sigboe @SomeGamer
Sorry everyone, I didn't realize the font changed, or the color. I reset the formatting and now it's basic like I originally intended.
I also removed Monster Hunter since it was a bad example. Most games can have it's save transferred between regions, but not every single game.

Sorry to necro this thread but this is the only place I found almost exactly the same issue as mine. I also installed the US version of ACNL on a JPN N3DS. I didn't use luma locale switcher, just ran the US game as-is. The in-game text was in English and had no problems, however, some things were wonky; the signs on the shops were all in Japanese, when using the Automatic Bell Dispenser, pressing the numbers would prompt a Japanese number to be said, and I couldn't use the full space when entering text (everything had to be really short).

Anyway, I bought a different N3DS (still JPN) but wanted to run the game correctly using luma locale switcher. This worked fine for fixing the weird glitches, but when I tried to transfer my save, it just wouldn't work. I looked at these posts

https://gbatemp.net/threads/urgent-help-eu-sav-files-to-us-sav-files.381486/#post-5340958
https://gbatemp.net/questions/how-to-transfer-acnl-save-to-another-3ds.3184/

and also did the hex editor tricks but had the same problem as the OP in the second link.

Based on this thread, I thought I could use the save file when forcing the region to be the same as the game, but it's not working. If I leave the game's region set to system default, the save works fine. Is Animal Crossing New Leaf just one of those games that save files won't work for cross-region?
