system transfer from one 3ds to cfw 3ds

ok i have found i have had to tell many people about this and there wasn't a tut to really cover this. i found the fix after googling for a while and finding a fairly old reddit post.

going to kind of be a shit tut but should be noob friendly.

generic warning: I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your system, saves, games, first born, pc, or anything else :P

requirements:

[source 3ds] 3ds, cfw or stock but on newest fw(this system will be formatted after the transfer finishes)
[target 3ds] 3ds, with cfw that is on the newest fw(not sure if a9lh needs this but other entry points do)
optional: new sd card for target system.
optional: back up all your saves using a save manager.(so if something doesn't transfer you have the saves. i recommend http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/
a pc to transfer from one sd card to another

videos:
o3ds to n3ds:

o3ds to o3ds:

follow the video until the end. if upgrading to a bigger card and or from a full size sd card to a micro one. make sure to transfer the files when IT tells you to. if you're already using a micro sd card in your o3ds with an adapter you can just put it in the n3ds.

if you are bringing the sd card from the target system to the new system and are using an emunand you will need to inject the emunand from the target system to the sd card.
if coming from an o3ds to a n3ds you will have to have emunand9 reset up the sd card(this will format the card so have a back up) as the nand sizes are different and then inject the emunand. there are already tuts for this so i wont be adding it.
you will also have to reinstall menuhax if you are using it as it will be for the source system and not the target system

after it has finished and you have transferred the files to the new sd card or the sd card to the new system and rebooted, it will error out, this is normal and why I'm writing this.

how to fix it.

1: kill wifi
- if the target system is an o3ds just turn it off with the switch
- if target system is a n3ds you have to turn your router off or disable wifi on it

2: reboot the system, let it try and fail again. it will now give you the option to cancel the transfer(don't worry). select cancel, once you are on the home menu turn wifi back on.

3: enter the eshop. it will take a while to load, it is finishing up the transfer, once the eshop fully loads its done.

4: ..........

5: profit

all your bought games and saves will be transferred and so will your nnid. legit cias will kind of transfer, they wont show up but are still there. just reinstall(it wont take up 2x space so don't worry) and they will show up with your saves. i am not sure about non legit ones as i didn't have any at the time. that's why i said its a good idea to use a save manager first.

a few notes
this may not be needed with a9lh sysnand or emunand, i did the transfer while using menuhax.
i have done this from o3ds to n3ds, and 2ds to o3ds.

I made a tutorial on exactly this for the exact same reason and people told me that there were other tutorials I missed, but now I can't even find my own tutorial to link to! Why does this keep happening?
O.o that makes it worse.

Everyone I found was just a normal transfer, had nothing to do with killing the wifi. The post I did find was a really old one on reddit and that was after searching a bunch of diff terms.

If legit CIAs are transferred, can't we copy the relevant titles.db from the old system before transfer and copy it over on the SD of new system, or do something else to force the Database to rebuild itself allowing other CIAs?

I just did this with my New 3DS systems. It kind of worked, except the e-shop thing didn't do anything. It errored the first time I opened it after the transfer, but took a little while to load the second time I opened it. None of my games are on the home screen, or in the software list in settings. My NNID and stuff like that came over. I have backups of my save data, so no real loss. It's kind of odd because the folders I had on the system that was sending the data came over, but not the contents or the theme.

I went and redownloaded Shovel Knights, and when I opened the gift, the save data couldn't be restored. Again, not a real loss, since backups. Re-downloading will take some time, but the most important stuff got transferred, so I'm ok with how it turned out.

My o3DS is stock - with Gunman Clive and a lot of bought software titles. The o3DS XL is modded with armloader exploit, but doesn't have anything new on there, barring the homebrew launcher cia. Would it be possible to use the a save game backup utility to save the data from my bought titles?

Also have a bunch of themes from Badge Arcade and the Megaman Legacy Collection - would they transfer over?

...Nope. I forgot to. It's probably too late since I went and re-setup the other system because I might give it to someone.
I've been so very scatterbrained today. This probably should have waited until tomorrow. Although, I do have some CIA versions of my games stored away, so that's a plus... I guess.

you would need a hacked 3ds to use a save manager. all of your stuff should transfer as long as u remember to move the folder when it tells you to.

Oh well. Lots of downloading in my future. Regardless of my mess up, this did get me my NNID linked to a new system, so I'm gonna count this as a success. :) I can deal with re-downloading the games, and restoring the save data. (Until Animal Crossing makes me play it for 20 minuets until I can save...)
Anyways, thanks for the tutorial!

Thanks! I will end up doing this - waiting on the extra accessories to come here - a hard case for the 3DS XL and a couple of screen protectors. I'm too cheap to buy 'em locally.

I found this thread kinda late, but I'm transferring (or attempting to transfer/have transferred?) my o3DS to n3DS. my o3ds has emunand while my n3ds has cakes ontop of a9lh. I tried to system transfer my stuff but I error out at the end (which I guess is normal) but I didn't know I had to kill my wifii. now my n3ds doesn't have everything from the o3ds installed and the o3ds gets a "this NNID can not be used on this system" error when trying to initiate system transfer. Is there a remedy for this?

Is this a transfer to SysNAND or EmuNAND?

I have an o3DS without any hacks on official 11.0

I have a New3DS on SysNAND 9.2 and EmuNAND 11.0 (using Luma3DS)

Can I transfer my o3DS to the New3DS EmuNAND without updating the SysNAND?

Yes, this is possible.

if you are bringing the sd card from the target system to the new system and are using an emunand you will need to inject the emunand from the target system to the sd card.
if coming from an o3ds to a n3ds you will have to have emunand9 reset up the sd card(this will format the card so have a back up) as the nand sizes are different and then inject the emunand. there are already tuts for this so i wont be adding it.
you will also have to reinstall menuhax if you are using it as it will be for the source system and not the target system

The first sentence confuses me because the target system is the new system, was that suppose to be source system to the new system?

Can someone help clarify this portion for what I need to do as a person transferring from a stock O3DS (source) to a full A9LH N3DS (Target), each using their own SD card and keeping their own SD cards?

I don't know if I need to do the emunand9 SD format, the reinjection (however that works), or the reinstall of menuhax (I think mine is using a CIA of HBL at this point if I understand it properly)...

So, if someone can provide a step by step, detailed post for those of us on a full A9LH from Pailect's guide, that would be great!

Thanks!

Copy the content of your O3 Ds sd cart on your PC
Do the transfer normally
When it asks you to transfer the files or the SD
Take the SD card from your N3Ds to your PC
Copy/merge the Nintendo 3DS folder and the DCIM folder if you have one of the backup of your O3DS SD card with the one in your N3DS SD Card
Put SD card back in N3DS
resume the transfer

Hi Ama :D

And when the transfer is complete, do I need to do anything after that? Is there anything I need to reinstall on my N3DS or it's SD card?
