How to access Browserhax on Old3DS 10.5

I know some of you might already know about this, but I'm still seeing people who maybe aren't quite so aware of this, so I figure -- might as well turn my reply on another thread into a tutorial.

It should be noted that browserhax, in general, isn't the most stable access point. Crashes will happen, and it may not always work (I had a few failed attempts of my own -- even when following the instructions to the letter! -- while testing for the troubleshooting guide.)

With that out of the way, here be instructions.

Okay, so -- the video above might be a touch blurry (sorry >.>; ), but this shows the process I use to reproduce the ability to access homebrew from the browser.

1) Enter browser, touch the wee spanner, scroll down to "clear all save data" (don't just clear history or clear cookies -- there's a separate button further down for clear all save data -- it's near the bottom, above your browser version box), and OK it. It'll exit out to your home menu when finished.

2) Re-enter browser. Go through the setup screens, and then as soon as you can, hit URL (avoid letting the home page load up -- you need to be really quick).

3) Type in the browserhax address -- http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax_auto.php and add a "?" after ".php" and then a string of random letters and numbers. E.g., http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax_auto.php?asdrsrdbvsxfhvb

You can also try http://yls8.mtheall.com/spider28hax.php (plus the question mark and any stream of junk). This is the direct address for the Old 3DS =>10.3 browserhax exploit, whereas the 3dsbrowserhax_auto address redirects to the best method for your browser, which may slow down the process, thus explaining some of the failures.

4) Hit confirm.

5) Be patient and wait. Hopefully, homebrew should load, as it does in my video.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

1) I'm still getting stuck at the orange screen.
Try deleting the webkithax temporary file from the root of your SD card. (Thank you, Acro.)

2) My browser hangs when I hit URL (following a previous failed attempt).
You need to reboot if you got the orange screen or got ejected to the main menu. Then, follow the instructions again.

3) I have a custom theme and the browser boots me out without even loading the screen colours.
Switch to the default white theme.

Kudos to Yellows8 and Goodlookinguy for figuring this out in discussion on Github. :D

I have tried this several times and still have no luck getting the hack to work. it loads the web page changes 3 different colours crashes and then says an error has occurred and kicks me to the home screen. I am on version 10.5.0-30E any advise would be great as I have tried so many different methods to try to get this to work even different links yet still no luck

if its any use my browser says its version 1.7616

Did you try deleting the webkithax file from the root of your SD card?

Also, just a theory at this point, but -- are you by any chance running a custom theme (whether from homebrew or from the Nintendo theme shop)? I tried setting up a theme, and found I got errored when attempting to run the hax. So, that's another possibility (in which case, you need to set to the default plain white).

Yes it is the default theme and I have deleted the file off the sd card. I have also wiped the sd card and put only the starter pack for the homebrew launcher in there as I was told that this is required for the hack to run.

Okay. I just made an edit a few minutes back to include the use of spider28hax, the direct address for the access method. The problem with the automatic page is that it has to redirect to the method for your browser, which I suspect may slow it down.

So, try http://yls8.mtheall.com/spider28hax.php with a question mark and a random stream of letters.

Isnt that for the OLD 2DS version of the 3ds? I tried that link anyhow and still no luck I have even gone fonto the homebrew site and got the ropbin payload and that now causes the screen to hang on the orange screen also tried deleting the webkithax off the sd card and tried again still no luck with that spider28hax it gets to the orange screen then kicks me out and says that an error has occurred and back to home screen.

@djalmafreestyler: Give it a try, see what happens. Gies a shout if it does (or even if it doesn't).

I've only got a normal sized old 3ds, so I don't know if it works for other types.

@jon2k8: No, Spider28hax is supposed to work on 10.2.0-28 through 10.5.0-30 on Old3ds. The only thing I can say is just that this method does take some patience, and that it's not the most stable ever. I had some issues this evening, myself. Given it relies on an internet connection, maybe try it later on when the internet (for us Brits anyway) is probably a bit quieter? Slow internet might also cause issues, I'm going to guess.

So, I figured out the issue. You have to download the ropbin payload from Smea's GitHub Page, & rename it to "browserhax_hblauncher_ropbin_payload.bin" (no quotations, & don't add a second .bin to your pre-existing one). Put this at the root of your SD Card, & it should work fine.

Interesting. I'll have a look at that method as well. :)
