So, my wii's motor is kinda dead, and I REALLY want to play PSO online, but of course, it's doing a disk check.. and I can't actually play because.. disk check. the motor is BROKEN. I don't know what even happened to it.

I HAVE the goddamn disk is the issue, I let my friend borrow my wii for a week, and then boom. Motor. Dead.

So unbelievably pissed off, most WIIs from the original few runs have dead motors.. that's a good percentage of all wii owners.. and the gcn has been out of production for almost a decade now.. PIRACY IS NOT AN ISSUE.. 80% OF THE COMPANIES THAT WOULD "Lose profits" (which as a concept is COMPLETE bullshit) are bankrupt, defunct, or otherwise.. I.. just don't even know where to start with this.. I am NOT dumping 100+ usd that I don't have on a new wii..

How's Devolution rate when compared to nintendont nowadays?

I have my GCN library set up via Devolution already, with all my GCN discs verified, but it was a pain scanning them all.

Also, doesn't nintendont have cheat support, while Devolution does not?

It does have cheat support, my issue is that it lacks proper modem emulation..

But if Devo didn't require a disc, then you wouldn't need a disk, making a dead motor not a problem. :P

Nintendont is really good, has widescreen support for alot of games, and has cheat support, plus a crap ton of controller options, among other features. I strongly reccomend it. :D

What's proper modem emulation needed for, with GC games?

The only "online" GC game I remember is PSO I & II(+)... and I heard that the private servers messed up a while back, causing many to lose their save data.

Other than modem emulation, has nintendont made Devolution obsolete? Is Devolution better than nintendont in any other ways?

ONE of them went down. And it, and it's owner can burn in hell (THAT IS A WHOLE OTHER CAN OF DRAMA), and I literally am using it to play pso I/II +. I'm trying to get to one of the other servers. one of the servers that doesn't have a horrible theif/liar/idiot/etc/etc as owner. (so the other two big ones)

Aside from modem emulation. No, nintendon't has everything else.

Devolution has xbox 360/wired controller support so there is that. Does the modem emulation apply to mario kart double dash?

Give it a rest on the Anti Piracy stuff. The author has made his intentions regarding it perfectly clear and it doesn't need to be rehashed every time this thread is bumped.

It's yin and yang. I'd venture to say that most would consider devolution to be the evil side due to its anti piracy measures.

I have yet to see a wireless pad release for Nintendont, so Tuedjis work is not entirely obselete.

Knowing that Wind Waker's value was at ludicrously high rates, I've found a deep appreciation for this emulator knowing that I can't just have a game whenever I want it.

**I've been playing with Devolution all morning trying to figure out whether my console has Alzheimer's. I'm going to verify whether its the wii remote or the console that stores the handshake information.

Hi!

I just bought 2 of the WiiU Fight Pad wired controllers. For those of you who don't know them: They are like the Wii Classic controller but are shaped like the GameCube Controllers.

Unfortunately the mapping of Devolution requires me to press B instead of A etc. Is there a way to change this?

Usually I start the games from CFG USB Loader, but I can't remember how I configured that ;) It's so long ago I did it ;)

Can anyone please point me into the right direction?

Thanks a lot!

Hello there, I would like to mention something that I've experienced using Devolution. I'm 1 of probably about 20 people in the entire world who are interested, or have even HEARD of, Homeland. And I'm probably 1 in about 5 who actually own the game and play it semi-regularly. Once in a while I will connect to Japanese servers using my GameCube, (yes, private servers are still going on today!) and play with them, however lately I've been wondering if it was possible to use the Wii. Long story short, I tried it using Devolution, ran the game, everything seemed to be working great, however it turns out that Devolution emulates the GameCube MODEM ADAPTER for Homeland which, based on my research, is not what Homeland requires. Someone else who plays the game with me is helping me look into it further, however it appears that Homeland exclusively works with the BROADBAND Adapter. I can verify this because I have connected online using my actual GameCube and my actual Broadband Adapter to connect online. I ALSO noticed that BBA Emulation is now supported, so would it be possible to change Homeland's emulation from the MODEM to the BROADBAND Adapter? Or perhaps provide a way to switch between the two?
Someone has asked this question to the developer at the gc-forever.com thread. You can find their discussion about it here: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2479&start=84#p30845
Apparently Homeland uses unicast communication protocol which Devolution doesn't support. If tuedj would gracefully implement it to the BBA emulation, that'd be lovely! However, it's not possible with Devolution as it stands.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I've been away on holiday and only just got back. I wanted to do exactly the same thing so figured it out or rather found a post from someone who already figured it out for everyone here. If you can compile it yourself like I did following that post you can always create the latest version from the source files. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be at all. Maybe take you 30 mins. to an hour to figure it all out.

Post back if you get stuck.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
