That time spent

Ho-ho-ho Tempers!

Are you in the comfort of your warm room, hot chocolate in one hand and controller in the other, occasionally peeking at the snowfall outside? You know it’s that time ‘cause the holiday season is upon us! And what do gamers do in their holiday season? Why, game of course! If not, more intensely and more diversely! How do they do that you ask? Well, there was “The Game Awards”, some new games are out or they can even read some books!. And there’s so much more that they can spend their time doing as gamers!

rsz_thegameawards2015logo-747x309.png

We’ve just been treated with a relatively impressive “The Game Awards” and not this (sorry if this brought some bad memories). Aiming to bring video games to the red carpet, this year’s TGA was a rollercoaster of emotions; a well-deserved salute to game developers, another low move by Konami against Hideo Kojima, a touching tribute to Satoru Iwata, some gender imbalance issues with the jury panel and games, games and Batman!. Well that was some entertaining time!

Speaking of time, how does it relate to you and gaming? On average, we spend more than 6 hours per week playing video games. That’s not a lot if you consider that we sleep on average for 56 hours a week and nearly 2 hours on the toilet per week. The longest videogames marathon lasted 135 hours 15 minutes 10 seconds according to Guinness World Records. Now it’s your turn to shine! How long do you spend on games on average? What’s your longest playtime? Was it worth it… or not?

You might be out venturing in Fallout 4, relishing on the vastness of Xenoblade Chronicles X or just can’t game because you’re in the Star Wars hype train, but whatever’s the case, make the most of the time you spend this holiday season. If it the best game you’ve played, enjoy every scene of it or if it’s the worst game you’ve played, be sure to know what makes it so bad so you can trash talk it with confidence! Or maybe you have better plans for this holiday season. Let us know all about it in the comments below!

Happy gaming holiday season folks!

I added my playtimes for all my games and stuff on my 3DS together, and I ended up with a grand total of 3205 hours and 15 minutes.

no It's hot, the days are hot, and if you put peek on the hot outside, you eye burns =A=
[lol wat XD near the meridian, so no winter or snow here hahah ]

I was thinking about this ... and well I ac't count it ... I don't play every day anymore :B I'm afraid I've lost my gamer will D: or turned myself an toilet gammer! D: (you know, a portable, the toilet, about 30 minutes really plaing sh/t ... ok sorry XD)
But well the more I play is with friends, these time is like Mario Party and smash brothers, playing that can go around an day nonstop , like from 15:00 to 1:00 of the other day xD
the last game I've finished I think I had the daily play of 1~2 hours :B (was sonic adventures for GC ... yeah I'm late lol)

Oh yeah there are like MMOROG as well, like ragnarok 2, tree of savior, aura kingdom .. I play like 1~3 hours depending how stuff are going .. yo know time plies with MMORPG .A.

For SP games the longest I've played is probably TES IV Oblivion which I think I put over 300hrs into. This year I've clocked up some silly times on a few games like 100+ on Bloodborne, over 100 on The Witcher III, 178 on MGSV and 100+ on Fallout 4. Fallout 4 I platinumed exactly 2 weeks from release day which is kind of disgusting. Some days I won't even play for an hour total but other days I can play 6hrs straight and think nothing of it.
My most played MP is Gears of War 2 which I played in a clan for thousands of hours and haven't really been into any MP game since that.

@VinsCool you could play at work... or play for work... Haha, just joking! But it would be rad if you could get your coworkers to game with you.

@Sliter I was once like you, in the Southern hemisphere, having sunny Christmas and New Year. Now it's all winter and white Christmas  And I think you just coined an all too appropriate term 'toilet gamer' :wtf:

Woah @T-hug 1000+ hours on GoW2! Aren't you entitled for some award of some kind?

Now is a good time to work on hacking or translations projects. I actually like doing that more than playing games if you can believe it.
Reading books? Who are you?

@flame1234 well everyone has their preferences, but thanks to guys like you we have fabulous translation. That's how I was able to enjoy Jump Ultimate Stars :) Oh, and better start reading, there are some pretty nice gaming-related non-fiction books out there, I did a review recently, check it out: https://gbatemp.net/threads/gamers-can-read-1.402442/

@Sliter I'm now in Budapest and this year hasn't been that cold, thankfully for a guy from the tropics like me! Well to 'play for work' you could start a youtube channel or something and bet everything on that or maybe get employed as a professional video game reviewer :gba: And good luck for your translation project! If you want some more attention, I could feature you in my next 'Temp'n' column! See my signature for details!

That's the spirit @DarkFlare69!

My most playtime is probably osu!, sadly enough. If I assume an average of 2.5 minutes per playcount and add my playcount for all modes together, I end up with a grand total of 21236 plays and an estimated playtime of about 609 hours. Of course, that's not counting the many hours spent in chat, song select, multiplayer lobbies or playing unranked maps. I could probably add the playtime of Lunatic Rave 2, which is a similar game that DOES have a playtime counter. I haven't played it nearly as much as osu!, but my current time in that game is 52 hours and 20 minutes - again, that doesn't include any time spent in the song select menu.
Both of these games combined, I've hit 13.5 million notes. Huh.

According to my 3DS, I've spent an almost horrifying 1047 hours in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, since release. Yikes. I've also burned through about 250 hours platinum'ing Persona 4 Golden, and countless amounts of hours in older Pokemon games. Seems I've also put 50 hours into getting all the achievements in Assassin's Creed II.

This year alone, I've plunked down 60 hours in Fallout 4, 50hrs in Tales of the Abyss 3DS, 35 in Tales of Graces F, 40 hours in both Borderlands...Wow. Looking at it all, this seems a bit crazy, haha! But I've had a ton of fun playing all these games, so I don't feel too bad about all the hours spent.

@Prans well this is nice XD I hope I can go visit places around tehre someday!

Ohh yes the "youtuber" thing! Actually I have a lot of stuff I would like to say about games (some are about localization, for example, bad ans good thins of it) but the thing is that .... I'm shy OTL and don't have the charisma a lot of this way have hah I have even thought about something like "hiding" myself with an animated character but then I need to learn to animate .. oh well but now the " earn playing" is clear for me haha thank you!!
Thanks about the columm but I don't think it deserve be featured because the long I'm taking with it xp maybe when we finally finish it I will accept it! xD thanks
well I think i'm going offtopic here, sorry XD
