I don't want to open a seperate thread, so I'm just asking here:
Is it somehow possible to destroy my Wii U when I mess up with vWii? I don't care much if vWii is messed up at all but I want my Wii U to be fine.
If you screw up and mess with your IOS, then you could prevent the Wii U side from updating and therefore from going online. It's usually fixable but if you screw with the wrong IOS you can be stuck with a permanently offline Wii U. That said, if you follow all guides well and be cautious that shouldn't happen.

Forgive me if this isn't the right thread to post in. My kids want to play several Wii U games online and are unable to because it wants an update. After downloading the update (5.5.0u it seems), the Wii U gets the dreaded 162-3006 error.

Looking for other posts with that error and running syscheckhd, I think I've narrowed it down to a "bad" version of ios15 rev 1032 when 1288 is needed instead. Is that something anyone could PM ? Should I post the entire syscheckhd output?

Any help would be appreciated.

Posting the syscheck would help

@gunner007, do you have a copy of this IOS?

Just want to inform, I had a Wii U semibrick, and I think the reason was a my modded vWii (HBC, USBLoader).

After completing a Wii U to Wii U System Transfer (not Wii to Wii U, between two Wii Us), the target system was unable to continue after everything had been transfered (Source system had meanwhile been formatted).

The situation was, after the transfer, the target System booted up and wanted to finish the transfer by connecting to the internet, and stood there. I couldn't access home menu, Gamepad Sync, nothing. Only the internet settings if a connection couldn't be etablished.

I had to send the system for checkup. They sent the system back with a note about Unauthorized modifications (never did anything with the target system) and no repairs had been done.
System works again, but Wii U memory had been wiped (vWii stuff was still there, but HBC and USB Loader where gone) and lost all saves saved on Wii U System memory. (USB memory is still recognized).

I recommend to not do a Wii U to Wii U System transfer after vWii had been modified, it may not work.

Interesting, that's the first I've heard of that

What point exactly did it refuse to boot properly? Did you ever accidently cut power from the console? If you try to power it on now will it boot properly?

It just stays on this screen, had it running for hours. I didn't cut power accidentally prior to this. And after booting, it was still stuck on this screen.

Also don't forget, it's fixed now, after Nintendo Support claims they didn't fix it because of unauthorized modifications ;)

yes you can, but if they are from a different region it might not work (there's no region free provided by priiloader here)
if you use the SD card menu, you will have to patch IOS80 (medium dangerous as it can brick if something goes wrong, but nobody reported a brick yet)
if you want a brick free, and region free solution, you might have to setup a sneek or neek2o emuNAND and install/run channels from here.

You can restore mii without issue.
You can restore savegames only if you already played that game at least once on vWii.

Not sure if any of those are an issue any why the WIIU update kept failing. For now I was able to spoof to 5.5 and my kids are happy being able to play online. It would be good to determine if any of those IOSs are incorrect and why the WIIU update was failing.

your IOS seems fine. I don't remember if bad signed IOS are notified (it should, so I think all is fine here).

Did you block nintendo update server?
That would be obvious, but we never now. be sure you don't have any filtering still set (proxy, router or dns) which prevent accessing nintendo servers.
It could still download some files, but the wrong ones.

What I found on other websites (even users on nintendo.com forum) is that it could be due to your network. (isp, or maybe bad wifi connection, I don't know).
Try connecting the console to another network if you can (at work, at a friend, family, from your phone, etc.)

Hi, I have a question about dumping ioses with YABDM. I actually just did it yesterday, all my vwii ioses are backed as wads up to my computer. I never installed any cios or anything.

My question is: How often do I have to dump all of my ioses?

Modding my vWii I am aware it requires a non High capacity card, anyone know if you can use a 4gig HC card if you format it as FAT16? I can't find a non HC card locally anymore and us there a brick danger at this juncture for trying?

May seem like a silly question but it's true my camera equipment it, only will take SD, but will use SDHC if formatted as FAT16.

very very rarely, if not never anymore.

Backing up IOS is used to restore them in case you temper with them.
so you need a copy of the original version.
Nintendo rarely update the vWii side (it did it 3 or maybe 4 times since wiiU release), and it updated only 2 IOSes.
If your WiiU version is >= 5.1.0, then you have all the latest IOS for vWii.

To know if you need to re-dump one of them on next WiiU update, you will have to ask on the update thread created here. someone will tell you which IOS has been updated (if any).

You can also look here :
https://wii.marcan.st/wiimpersonator/reports/vwii/EUR/
it's listing all the released updates (not a lot), and all added or modified files.
you can see that the latest update only modified the system menu, not an IOS.
previous version updated IOS62 and HCZP channel.
etc.

You can also compare the update date to the firmware version release date here:
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_Serial_Number_Database

Well, I looked through those forum posts. I've tried using my phone hotspot to update and I get the same 106-3006 error. It downloads, gets to around 29% installing and then fails. Is there anything that looks wrong with my vIOSs ?
