It's definitely not as big as the console games like Ryu ga Gotoku 5, but it still has quite a lot of content.

I personally prefer the second one. The combat feels more refined in the sequel and there's more stuff to do.

Tricky to translate
I can see that there were problems while translating this. But all seems fine at the moment.

I wonder if the sequel is as hard as this in terms of translation.
Which is longer story wise.
I'm presuming you have played both

Yes, I have played and completed both multiple times. The story for both is around about the same sort of length, though the sequel may be slightly longer, but not by a huge amount.

Translation isn't "harder" for one game or the other, but it will take longer to translate the sequel simply because there's more to translate!

Things have been pretty good since last week. First, FlyingClimber, a new member, has joined us. He works on translation, especially some in the famous big file. More than half of the cut-scenes have now been translated by KHHsubs, plus all the in-game dialogs of the first chapter!Here's some screenshots :

Introduction
Yakuza may not have enough fans in the West to warrant an official localization, but it's community is an active one. While you can find a lot of help to play the japan-only console games without understanding Japanese, resources about this PSP spin-off are scarce. Our goal is to provide an English translation good enough for you play the game, understand the story and enjoy it.

When is it done ?
We've just started, and even tough this isn't as text-heavy as a JRPG, there's a lot to translate, edit, and test. You'll have to be patient. We'll update this thread every time we make important steps.

Wonderful, I was waiting for a translation of this game. Any plans to translate Kurohyō 2: Ryū ga Gotoku Ashura hen later?

I believe this was mentioned before, but I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) that if we're not worn out after finishing this project, and given that the game is indeed hackable within Aegehn's abilities, we would be all for translating the second game.

I personally enjoy working on this project, and would love to work on the second game after we finish this one. However, that time is still quite a ways out, and we don't have any projected release date, so I wouldn't be looking forward to seeing the Kurohyou 2 translated any time soon.

55% of cutscenes are complete.
100% of the main story text from chapter 1 is complete (including tutorials). Still got 9 more chapters though and then there's all the substories and random dialogue from people in the streets as well.
62% of the massive globals is complete.
0% of hostess dialogue is done.

I'm aiming to have all the cutscenes finished by mid-April. Hopefully, I'll achieve this, if I can keep up my current pace. The reason for this is because my free time will be cut back again starting mid-April, so I want to get all that out of the way before then. After that, there's still an insane amount of text to translate... I don't think we'll be close to releasing this patch this year.
