How to Succesfully Update your Emunand.(W/Pics)

Before starting!

Useful TIPS:
Do not skip any of the parts!
Double check your system version before updating your Emu Nand!

Because A LOT of people want a tutorial about updating your emunand here is what you need to do:
(READ ME Follow ALL the steps correctly! If you skip any of them your 4.X.X 3DS (XL) will be updated.)
(I warned you! Follow this tutorial WITH CAUTION!)

Requirements:
A Flashcard with the GW Files (You can find these on the gateway site) I used DSTwo but you can use your Gateway one or R4 etc

trqJ5dV.jpg

An SD Adapter 2GB + (Usually comes with your 3DS)

A 3DS With 4.X.X FW (If it's higher than that you can stop reading now) and Charged 100%! (Wireless must be OFF)

QWfghzS.jpg

A GW3DS Flashcard (Which I don't own ATM to play your backed up,downloaded games!)

And a brain :D

First of all you might want to open the 3DS Settings!
Then Choose Other Settings!
After that Profile!

zxwmPth.jpg

Then Nintendo DS Profile (Press L and keep holding it)
KHkv3m8.jpg

Till you get here

Omewn8d.jpg

Then this menu will show up

0senMKj.jpg

Here is what YOU need to follow WITH CAUTION

First of all PICK

zEHKs39.jpg

This will Take 10 Minutes Aprx.

After that transfer your back up from your 3DS SD Card to your Computer.

Then (If you skip this you are as good as screwed ^_^ same goes for the above)

kJidzA4.jpg

This will take 5 Minutes APRX. (After that I think your 3DS will restart!)

After ALL that pick go ahead and do the same procedure as before and THIS time pick Gateway MODE and go to system settings!
0senMKj.jpg

This is where your Emunand takes place!

Check your Firmware Version it will be Like this! (with the GW3D in front of the FW Version I have already Updated mine so that's why it's on 6.X.X FW

ltyaivq.jpg

IF YOU DON'T SEE THIS DO NOT UPDATE! (Go BACK to the GW menu and do it again UNTIL you see this in front of the system version!) DO NOT turn off your 3DS!
If you turn it off everything will go back to normal and the NAND! and you will have to go through all the process again!

After the above when you are going to update to 6.X.X (EmuNand) Now you can turn on your wireless!

DO NOT Update from a cartridge as you will be prompted to update again to access the Eshop for some reason!

After you update!
Note if you boot into classic mode you will only see 6.3.0-12 with no GW3D in the front

Fe1Lsyq.jpg

Classic Mode is for booting 3DS Retail Games,APPS ETC
Gateway Mode is for booting 3DS Pirated Games with your 3DS Flashcard!

Now for the people who accidentally updated their System Nand(?) you might wanna see this with 3DS XL:
http://gbatemp.net/threads/nand-flash-dump-3ds-xl.350668/page-29#post-4843862

If you want to "transfer" Games,Apps etc from an newer Nand to an older (Requires Soldering!)
http://gbatemp.net/threads/sys-transd-nand-injected-into-gw2-0b1-emunand.358545/

You can only Downgrade with your NAND back up you made before BUT you need to solder your 3DS XL :)

You can point out any mistake you see I will update this thread as much as I can! :D

if you don't see GW3D in front of system menu you can switch off the 3ds as long as you boot back into gateway mode, no wonder people get confused....................sudeki300

The most problematic point in my opinion is that leaving system menu after enabling emuNAND returns you to systemNAND.

no you said:
DO NOT turn off your 3DS! and everything will go back to normal except the NAND!

maybe a full stop after the "don't turn off your 3DS" instead of "!"

maybe i'm just confusing myself by trying to read too much before going ahead with the update. nice of you to put up the guide with pics though.................sudeki300

That's what you MUST be careful about in my case if I remember correctly the 3DS restarted and it has the GW3D option in front of it but I restarted it just to be safe :P

think best way would set up the emuNAND, then wireless connection. turn 3ds off and boot into gateway mode, it will find the emuNAND, then straight into settings and update..................sudeki300

no problem Liberta, just glad you didn't take offence

sorry but this is a very bad tutorial you leave out the most important part, like for instance you say "double check your system version before updating"
but checking even once kicks you back to system nand
so here is what really neeeds to be clarified , is when you go into settings and see GW3d 4.x , then what specifically do you do? go to internet settings, set up wireless, then go to update fw, ? so you will not be kicked back to system nand after you progress past the system version screen to the set up wireless settings, and then to the update fw soption in the settings? this is what i am most nervous about these steps need to be made more clear, when does it kick you back to system nand? , is it safe to go back and forth between the system setting without being kicked back to system nand? i dont like this whole set up they never should have made it kick you out to system nand just by going into settings, but maybe they had to

If it would kick you back on System Nand it wouldn't have GW3D.
If you see the GW3D you are safe.
But if you are nervous like I was you can restart your system after you finish formatting your Nand and then you can go back to Gateway Menu select the gateway mode and Update :)

yes i am very nervous ,i wish there was a ideo showing what happens from when you see the gw3d 4.5 on, like showing that it still stays in gw3d 4.x after tou go to internet settings and update ,i would hate to have to make a hardware flasher

Yeah I was thinking the same. :P (Honestly I wouldn't open Up my 3DS XL as I have screwed up before with soldering my PS3 ^_^)
If you are nervous you can try what I said above ^_^ but be sure to make a NAND back up if you haven't already (I guess you did xD)
Or you can wait for a stable release! :)
