How to use a 64gb Micro SDXC in your SDHC compliant flash cart.

The only difference between an SDHC and an SDXC is that SDXC runs the exFAT file system, whereas SDHC runs FAT32. Windows tries to prevent you from formatting any SDXC card into FAT32, so you have to use a special tool called fat32format to do the job, which is downloadable here FAT32Format.zip

1.Extract fat32format to somewhere easily accessible, such as the C:.

2.Connect your Micro SDXC card to your computer with an USB adapter. You should not need a special adapter, most SDHC ones will work fine.

3. Open a command line in admin mode. You can do this by going to start, typing cmd, then pushing ctrl + shift + enter. A UAC popup will ask if you want to run it, click yes.

4. Type CD /D C:\ or CD /D e.g. so if you put it in E:\folder1 type CD /D E:\folder1.

5. Type fat32format so if your SDXC is your F: drive type fat32format f:
6.(beware, this will erase all data on the sdxc card, so backup beforehand if needed) Push y then enter when it ask you if you really want to format.
6a. If it says something else is accessing the sdxc card, download process explorer Process Explorer run it, push ctrl + F, type in the drive of the SDXC card so in this example F: and push enter. It will show you what processes are accessing your SDXC card. Close them out and retry step 6.

It should look like this when it runs successfully.

7. Congrats, your SDXC card will now work on your SDHC flashcart/devices. Now install the firmware needed for your flashcard and put the NDS files of your choice on it and try it out. Enjoy!!

This has been confirmed to work so far on supercard DSTWO, EZ Vi, R4i Gold Plus and R4i Gold 3DS. There is no reason it should not work on any SDHC compliant flash card.

And factor in ScummVMDS..

i have almost 1 of every version of every supported game released for every supported system. a full set of games (selecting the best release for each, ie: graphics, sound, etc), is just over 1 GB. so it isn't as large as you think. converting the audio to the specs agentq suggests saves a ton of space as well.

The entire NDS collection is like 160gb..GBA 30gb or so..gbc 750mb..gb 130mb. genesis 1.2gb nintendo 160mb.

but who puts on full goodsets? why would you want all languages, all dumps, all hacks, all translations, etc?

Thank you for the information. One last question. While I see that you would not use a SDXC card for WBFS games, what about WiiWare? I only use my SD card for emulation, WiiWare and multimedia. BTW this would be killer on both the Wii and Wii U. -So much for people bitching about the Wii's lack of space or the Wii U's lack of internal HDD :yaywii:
I have the entire collection of WiiWare and Virtual Console for NA region and it only fills half a 32GB card*. If you have a Gamecube compatible Wii, DML is definitely worth a look! It's received a lot of updates in the past few months, so the compatibility list is terribly out of date. I haven't had any of the Gamecube games I've tried show up as unusable (although online mode is out of the question).

*uncompressed, the entire collection of WADs is 17.9 GB

I do have a GameCube compatible Wii but I don't have a XC card and I'm also using disc loading. Not sure if I want to go completely digital with my whole collection but this XC information is really making me think about everything. I wish they would just go ahead and release terabyte cards. As for your collection of wads, how do you get around the Wii Menu and Wii SD Menu's page limit?

I don't have all of the WADs installed, that's just the size of the collection on disk.

What I actually have installed only takes about 9 pages of my SD menu and a page and a half of my Wii menu. It's pretty laborious to install and transfer over every single game but as far as I'm aware this is the only way to play WiiWare/VC from SD.

If you have the discs for the games you would be playing, I'd think that protecting the longevity of them by using backups instead is another good reason to consider it. ^_^

as far as with the main subject, I'm definitely shopping for a 64GB MicroSDXC right now :D (edit: argh, they're still over $60 without sale/coupon pricing T___T 64GB SDXC is in the $40-50 range on Newegg though. think I'll just watch the sales newsletters for SDXC/mSDXC, they pop up almost weekly.)

I found a few 64GB SDXC cards on eBay with free shipping between $37.99 and $47.99, granted these cards don't come from a major brand but might be worth the risk.

I got mine for 49.50 with a 2 day flash memory coupon that I received in my email because I made another purchase of some other flash memory. It doesn't seem like newegg sends out coupons for flash memory often. You might just want to go with the ebay option or shell out the bucks for one from amazon or newegg. It's worth it!! 64gb SDXC, it's like the rolex of NDS storage. Then you can go brag about how awesome your flash cart is to your friends, haha. (You might end up alone this way)

I can confirm this works on the r4i gold plus, I'll be getting some more cards soon to test this on as well. Anyone else try this with a card not confirmed yet? If so please post the results. I know theoretically it should work on all cards that support SDHC, but the real world doesn't make sense sometimes.

White 2 is 512 MB, actually.
Also, you're leaving out emulated games.
GB/C/A
NES
Genesis
And factor in ScummVMDS..

I bet I could use 2TB.
B&W2 Is actually only 280MB, once properly AP patched and trimmed. Using untrimmed roms is just foolish. Such a waste of space.

The entire NDS collection is like 160gb..GBA 30gb or so..gbc 750mb..gb 130mb. genesis 1.2gb nintendo 160mb. No way you're going to fill up a 2tb. But you're probably trolling anyway so lol..I can say I wouldn't mind having a 128gb for my DS. Those are supposed to be coming out next year right? Although I'm presently having trouble filling up the entire 64gb I have now haha. 7 gb left at the moment. Although if I was really shooting to fill up a 128gb it'd be easy. I've always wondered why someone didn't make a dual micro sd flash cart for double the space. I imagine it'd sell like hotcakes, being able to advertise double the storage of any competing card. Anyway, micro sd's rock and I'm lovin the 64gb supercard dstwo. I hope others get some 64gb micro sd's and enjoy it thanks to my testing :O

Well you could fill up 2TB with a DSTwo if you had a ton of videos in avi/xvid format (720x480 or so). The full Stargate SG-1 is just a bit over 100GB so throw on a bunch of long running TV shows like Law and Order, Star Trek (all of them), the full Stargate series (SG1, Atlantis, and even Universe), NCIS, and so on and you could do it.
