So I just got my XL yesterday and was playing mario cart and kingdom hearts. The 3d is extremely annoying at times. I liked the effect alot but on the XL if you move around a tiny bit the screen gets blurry. I hold it 12-16 inches away like I am supposed to. It makes me distracted from the game cause everything random gets blurry as a move.

Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this? I don't think turning it off would be a solution as its one of the main features, it does add alot to the games but the "sweet spot" is way too small.

Do you have a screen protector on your top screen? When I had a protector on my XL the sweet spot wasn't as wide as without the protector on..

Everyone including me thinks that the XL does have a wider field of view than the original, which had an ok sweetspot anyway. I suggest trying out other XL units, maybe yours is defect. Remember to keep a good distance and a good vertical angle, adjust the 3D depth, the brightness and play in a somewhat well lit area to make sure you're not "doing it wrong".

No screen protector I just got it yesterday.

Also I never played the original but my friend came over who has the original and he said the XL is even more narrow than the original in 3d.

Try playing around with the distance and angle of the unit, an XL should have a somewhat better viewing angle no matter what, go try other units.
And what game are you playing? A game like streetfighter makes you move your 3DS a lot for example.

It takes time for your eyes to adjust to the 3D, when I first got my 3DS I coudnt stand the 3D, it hurt in some cases but now it's fine and without the old 3DS and the XL side by side your friend can't really compare them

No he had his with him, used the nintedo 3d text for comparison. Couldn't use a game since he left his mario cart at home (had mario 3d land in the regular 3ds) but he said he was pretty sure it was narrower.

I played mario cart and kingdom hearts 3d drop distance, 3d drop distance was even worse in terms of blurring since its an action game where i have to button mash a bit during fights so the 3ds moves a bit. However, mario wasn't any better, I sometimes lose races cause the screen gets blurred after moving a bit and i crash.

I totally have the same problem as you and also think turning 3D off is a stupid solution. Hopefully we just get used to it. When I am really tired, I can't use 3D at all. Middle of the day seems to work okay for me.

I think you will probably get used to it over time, and have you tried turning the 3D to the lowest setting without turning it off? Do you still have ghosting issues?

You can try comparing it to a regular 3DS and see which is worse for you.
I only got the regular 3DS but as far as I know 3DS XL should be better when it comes to finding the sweet spot for 3D.

Also, you need to get used to it especially since it's your first time. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the 3D effect on the 3DS.
I guess it's just not for them. If you love the console and games and you can't tolerate the 3D, there's always the choice to turn it off. At least you can still play the games. Just don't force yourself, it may strain your eyes.

I owned the original 3DS for 8 months before upgrading to the XL. I personally had no issues with the XL's 3D, and in fact I think it's even a tad better than the field of view on the original.

You're probably the first person ever who has said that the 3D spot is weaker on the XL. Everyone I know, people who posted on here, and reviewers all said the 3D aspect on the XL is so much better.

I have an XL and it seems fine. The original I had a bit of difficulty when playing with demo units at the store but the XL seems a bit easier.

Also, I think it has screwed up my brain....I am starting to trip out on 2D images and my brain is thinking they are in 3D when looking at the computer or TV sometimes....far out dude.

Happened to me too in the beginning, the text and divs appeared to be floating. Wish the Internet and PC screen were 3D now haha.
