Homebrew desmume how to pause?

so i am playing desmume on mac i see the pause button on top but i am playing a game the requires the use of the touch screen side and i have to be precise in what i am doing to pass it so how to i pause? like a button or something? so that i can use my trackpad for the touch screen side to play and using my other hand to pause the game. i want to keep pausing and play at the same.
does anyone know how?

btw the game i was playing was the tokimeki memorial valentine chocolate mixing mini game.
and the pause button on my keyboard (f8) always opens up itunes and i have looked to see if it would stop doing that but to no avail.
