I just bought a DSTWO [from RealHotStuff]. Now I'm looking around for a Micro SD card.

I did a search, but the only pertinent results were old (2008 / 2010 / etc).

So what size would you suggest, if I plan to play a fair amount of games [ranging from NES to current]?

Thanks for any advice.

Yeah most anything over 2GB* will be SDHC, which works fine. 64GB and up however, is SDXC, which hasn't been shown to work.

DS games can go up to 512MB, but there's like like four or five games that get that large, the majority are 128MB or less. You can fit 70 DS games on an 8GB with no issue.

* - Technically there have been some ~4GB SD cards, but those are so rare we just pretend they don't exist since they're not even sold.

With an 8GB I was able to fit in 98(trimmed, untrimmed came to about 8.4GB) of the best games out there. 16gb would just be over kill.

If you want something nice and right away then just go to your local walmart and pick up a sandisk 8gb for about $10. If you want a 16gb its just another $2? $5? dollars? *forgot* They're class 4's but that shouldn't make a huge enough difference.

*EDIT* Of course you could always get a 32gb LOL
No.. but seriously a 8gb is more than enough.

I find , my local Walmart to be almost double if not triple the prices of Amazon, for what I'm buying and the area. I have never had a bad card from Amazon though I'm sure someone her will say they have... I use a 32 Gb class 4 cart (less than $15.- 19 USD new right now Amazon) and have a mix of Nes, Snes, DS, GBC, & GB, & GBA, and free license real homebrew, over 100 full readme guides, several DPG videos, a seperate browser, email etc... totalling 707 (games alone) in all. G-d I love this card...best investment evaaar. It all works flaw-lessly. Over 450 are DS games, untrimmed, uncompressed. I suppose I could fit more on but these are all ones I actually use, so what's the point.

(I am actively working on owning hard physical originals, w/ labels and paper instructions of each and every one. I'm 3/4 of the way there now, just for collecting purposes. My daughter will get an awesome collection someday.

I figure I have enough to last until the 'Pip-Boy 4-D wrist-mounted Holo-emitter' is released by Nuke-a-tendo

I seldom take the card in and out and have the same cart for four years now. I believe the less I take it in and out of the slot, the less likely springs are to break or data degredation/corruption from writing, deleting elc.. or from copying copies, or contact tines to gum up or wear out. I keep a smaller 4gb for testing games on and another card for same purpose.

I have a 16GB, (*8GB is NOT enough for me) and it works great. Not to mention, I also have a good amount of space left over if I want to add extra stuff.

The 64GB XDHC cards CAN work, they just come pre-formatted as exFAT, and you need to use a partitioning tool like gParted to make the whole thing into one giant FAT or FAT32 partition. THEN it will work fine.

If you can afford it, it's safer to aim for slightly over and above what you need, than to aim for exactly what you think you'll need. For example, a 16GB class 10 card is safer than an 8GB class 4. As far as I know, some games like, The World Ends With You, would require faster cards, though I dunno exactly how fast.

That is not always the case. While it is true that SDXC and SDHC are electronically identical in the interface many devices have a hard coded limit and can't handle 64 bit volumes. Has anyone tried SDXC cards in the DSTwo to see if they work?

Thanks for all the input. I ended up going with a 16GB card (class 10). It's always good to have a decent buffer of free space, and I'd rather any bottle-neck not be on my end if I could have helped it. Plus it was only $16.
