He asked about hackers and cheaters. There were cheaters in Mario Kart 7, don't know if all was fixed.
The people that are currently trying to hack the 3DS would be pretty stupid if they would use a successful hack to cheat in online multiplayer before releasing anything an make sure Nintendo does not patch it to quick.
But in my opinion cheating in multiplayer is already stupid by itself.

Maybe it's just lag? Sometimes I see people driving off the track and then pop up three meters ahead. It's especially annoying when this causes them to knock you off the track. It's impossible to actually cheat at the moment though.

The only cheating that has been possible up to this point was a problem in mario kart 7 where if you jump off the track at a certain point you get paced way far ahead on the track instead of at the point you jumped off at. Most mario kart games have had similar issues (for example rainbow road on the the N64) but as far as RAM manipulation goes, this isn't possible for joe everyman yet and as far as I know only neimod and people affiliated with him have a method for memory editing

Maybe some of these hacks people are seeing for MK7 is lag switches? Not sure if that would work for it but it's my crazy theory for the day.

If you have a wireless router connected to your modem there is the Ethernet port. If your using a combo unit you would need to buy a second WAP and connect your 3DS to the WAP A then connect WAP A to WAP B with Ethernet and your in business.

Never underestimate hackers, they are a surely bunch lol

I doubt lag is something that can easily be fixed.
