if that adapter is used to emulate a specific controller, then you can only play games designed for the targeted controller it's emulating. (where is that adapter usually used? on Wii, or it's a PC adapter acting as a standard input controller?)

GameCube games are expecting incoming data from a GameCube port, not USB (USB is disabled when the Wii is in GameCube mode, so you can't use USB controllers at all).

Only, possible, solution is if Devolution add USB controller support: Devolution is launched in Wii mode, keeping access to USB ports.
It doesn't mean that it's automatically supported. GameCube games are still expecting incoming controls from the GC ports, not from USB. Devolution need to add support for that USB adapter.

with Wii without GameCube port:
1. install a controller port (soldering knowledge, and hardware parts needed)
2. Wait for Devolution to adds support to other controller type (Wiimote, Keyboard, etc.)

3. ? buy another/older Wii
4. Do not play GC games on Wii. (Real GameCube, or emulator on PC)

οh... that's too bad... i'm disappointed... soo, can i play gamecubes games with οther way?
Yeah, that's what you get for buying the family edition of the wii. The gamecube was too hardcore for the average family, so nintendo took out the ports for the controllers and memory cards.

(this may not be the real reason...but it's more plausible than anything else).

On a more serious note: what Cyan said (and I would pretty much rule out 1 or 2, for that matter).

If the thing is still new, you could return it and use the money to buy a second-hand wii with gamecube support.

That's not more plausible than they simply wanted to cut costs. Family Edition was just a particular bundle anyway, not the name of the model which is RVL-101.

Could be worse, SteelLord, you could have that horrible Wii Mini they put out in Canada that doesn't support internet, SD cards, or component cables in addition to not supporting GameCube.
