I still have yet to receive a clear answer to the question: How will this work on newer Wii models and WiiU's? We already have Dios Mios for older Wii models. However, for newer Wii models without Gamecube support and WiiU's, Devolution is currently the most plausible method of running Gamecube games without the need of Gamecube controller ports. Wiimote support will come eventually to allow this but the most glaring issue then would be how to bring over the anti-piracy disc check without a disc drive. I've heard proposals to run the disc check on a compatible secondary Wii (which requires you to already have said Wii) and even your own PC (which will expose all sorts of security holes in the check). Therefore, I assume that either Devolution will have its anti-piracy check removed in the future or Devolution will simply not support future models of the Wii and WiiU, which would be such a shame, especially since I recall that it was one of the original goals of Devolution before its controversial mess. In any case, I find the situation quite interesting to watch.

If I had a legal copy of a Gamecube game and a Wii compatible with GC, I would just insert the GC disc in the Wii and have fun. C'mon what is the real advantage of loading games from usb rather than minidiscs? The money you'd have to pay for a SD card or a external HD could just as well be invested in a memory card and GC pads, which you can use in Wii games.

Like Torran mentioned, it would be awesome to be able to play GC on newer Wii models and Wii U.

Actually it's the only method. Devolution already runs on WiiU, but there is still no Wiimote support, so you couldn't play it, just watch the intro.

Once tueidj made a comment that made me think he was going to use a USB-DVD drive for such things
http://gbatemp.net/threads/devolution-speculation-thread.322683/page-6#post-4187144
but then there's always the option of using one of these adapters like you had to with an old iMac
18-1885-Product_Primary_Image-thumb.jpg

but no one so far has been willing to pay for one and test it out to see if it actually works.
One way or another, Wiimote support IS coming ... but it's not here yet so this is still a "wait and see" thing.

i am really getting sick to death of these anti "piracy" tardz

I haven't seen too many "anti-piracy" people in this thread. Most people in this thread who are in agreement with tueidj have gone from the stance that he is free to design his program however he wants.

and anyone who thinks this will do fukall to stop "piwacy" is serious deluded

Indeed. If you wish to play pirated GameCube games on a USB drive on the Wii, you can use DIOS-MIOS.

the disc only has to be verified once(as far as i understood it,didnt read the whole thread correct me if im wrong)
so anyone can still borrow a game rip it and return it,or buy a game rip it and sell it

Perhaps. However, you still need to at least possess the game at some point in order to verify it on Devolution.

I haven't seen much on how tueidj would plan to run the anti-piracy check on newer Wii consoles or the Wii U. However, based on his original thread announcing Devolution, I think it is safe to assume that he does (or did) have something in mind. Also, support on newer model Wii's was not "one of the original goals of Devolution before its controversial mess." Tueidj has stated from the moment that he announced his project that an anti-piracy check would be in place.

I cant wait to play gamecube games via devolution on the Wii U's WiiMode in-between prying out the memorex cd adapter that will most likely get jammed in the drive every so often.

by this, i really hope he has a solution for WiiMode and does not possibly decide to have people use a adapter like the one mentioned above or something along the lines of that. I would rather not risk a plastic adapter possibly ruining the optical loading mechanism of the Wii U just to verify if you purchased a 10 year old gamecube game.

note: i know he did not say what he was going to do

I, for one, don't seem to understand why there are so many people desperately trying to get devolution to work on newer wiis or wiiu's. Those older models aren't exactly hard to find and they're not expensive either (I just picked up a second hand black wii for 99€ in my local game shop. It als means I have now THREE mario wheels I never use :P ).

And looking at this community, I expect that A) everyone already has a wii (WITH gamecube support), and B) that the ones buying a model without it already freakin' know that it doesn't play gamecube games!

Not to forget Dios Mios, so even pirates can get their fix for games.

So really...should tueidj really put time into devolution right now? Wouldn't it be better if he did use that time to do...say...hack the wiiu*?

*small note: I'm of the opinion tueidj can and should do whatever the hell he wants. I'm just pointing this out because those people don't even seem to grasp that teuidj isn't some sort of homebrew spitting machine who can do everything without spending time on it.

Noone who has boughta game from Gamestop or any used game is technicly allowed to play it as you are not the license holder.

I would be carefull with these things.
The forces tearing at these things are huge.
They should have probably a maximum speed rating printed somewhere.
Unless that rating says 8xDVD or 56xCD I would stay away from it. (both should be around 12000rpm afaik)

Since the picture is a bit small I can only make educated guesses.
It says "CD Single Adapter" which imho hints at CD-Audio.
Audio CDs are usually read at 1xCD speed which is up to 500rpm.
With the Wii (iirc) reading at 8xDVD speed (or 12000 rpm) thats 24 times the rotational speed or 576 (24^2) times the force.
Which is not good.

edit:
If you have a spare set of high speed cd/dvdrom, disc adapter and mini cd/dvd you can do a first try with much less danger than in the mostly plastic wii.
The metal sides of pc drives in adition to the metal pc case shold be more than enough to protect you from potential shrapnel.
Just make sure that nothing important is in front of the drive (plastic front + no case).
Even if the disk does not weight much, it's other edge is traveling at over 230 km/h (140 mph) and pulls over 7200g.
You don't want splinters of that traveling toward you.

I think that's a tad narrow-sighted, not everyone has space around their television for a dozen consoles and there are other circumstances that can prevent people from keeping both consoles. Hell, you could say the same for all the Virtual Console games and the homebrew emulators what with second hand consoles being relatively cheap to acquire. We want Devolution to work for the convenience of not needing to mess around with discs, cables and so on. Me, I'm giving my Wii to my two daughters so they can play their favourite games in their bedroom, and my son has my Gamecube in his room, so it would be nice if Devolution could work for me on the Wii U. I'm sure people will have sold their Wii consoles to make room for the Wii U too.

I don't mind you calling my reasoning narrow-sighted, but could you please give arguments that are actually valid ones? What you're mentioning are first world problems. Do you really want to complain about not being able to play gamecube games when you just gave that very possibility away...twice?

A) I'm not sure where you got the impression that I was complaining.
B) Because my statements did not relate to second or third world issues, they're invalid? My wanting to play GameCube games on my Wii U is no more a first world desire than your wanting a hack for Wii U mode.
C) I've not given up the possibility of playing them, I've given up the convenience of being able to play them on my current-gen consoles.

I think you mistook my post for one that portrays a sense of entitlement. If you re-read it, I merely said 'it would be nice' and I'd like to bolster that statement by saying that it's something I'd appreciate, but I would neither feel angry nor cheated if it never happened.

Anti-piracy is a noble thing to some extent , but for the game cube ? I don't really understand it. Then again , maybe its not an anti-piracy thing , maybe tueidj didn't want his work to appear as though he stole someone else's and changed it just enough to call it his own. Kinda like with modern computing and how the how Gui based OS got started .

i can't believe this topic is alive. DIOS MIOS works great we aren't missing much from devolution. at least im not, even if i had physical copies of games i want to use, i still would not use devolution. same goes for newer super mario bros wii, if the devs are working to make it a chore for me to play and have FUN with, then i will stay away. once everyone stops being afraid of devs this app will be cracked. im positive its not hard, just need the know how.

Devolution runs games faster, has modem support for Phantasy Star (real online), may have Classic Controller support later and supports audio streaming. The verify thing only has to be done once. That said, I couldn't quite manage to set it up when I tried it (although I'm sure I could get it to work, I was just trying to do everything from within CFG loader) and DIOS MIOS worked fine, so I'm using that.

Wait...so you can use DIOS MOS in tandem with Devolution to play the games without a disc? Because I have several of my gaqmes backed up before I sold them on craigslist as they were taking uneeded space. In other words, does DIOS MOS prevent the detection system on Devolution?

It is pretty hard to crack, but I've cracked it. But... It is useless to me since my Wii doesnt have GameCube ports. Counting me, that makes a total of 2 of us that have cracked Devolution antipiracy. I have no interest in sharing it with anybody, so don't PM me asking for it.
