Hardware Is it possible to partition HDD?

I just bought a new HDD and was wondering if it was possible to partition it,1 would be formatted in wbfs(for use in the wii) and the other fat32(for pc use)?

Do NOT bother with WBFS! FAT32 is the way to go now, especially if you want to use homebrew and DIOS MIOS. But if you really want to use the obsolete WBFS, you could

No, really, don't bother with WBFS. Just go straight FAT32. If you REALLY wanted, if anything, go FAT32 and NTFS, but I'd recommend just straight FAT32.

Edit - just to make it clear, all Wii apps now can read FAT32 partitions on hard drives (ones that can access the drive). WBFS is a relic of the past. You can put all of your ISOs (Something like Wii Backup Manager will auto-split the ISOs to >4GB files with no impact on performance or convenience) as well as putting apps and media on it.

For example, I have my 500GB Seagate external formatted entirely as FAT32, and I use it for Wii stuff and file backups/transfers from pc to pc.

i have a wd mypassport drive that has both fat32 and ntfs just use partition wizard if you want to do it.

If you reallly reallllly really want a WBFS partition (why? for testing maybe, or to fix some games? NTFS is better to fix problematic games), do not make it the first partition on your drive.
FAT32 should be the first partition, then anything else. the first partition is used by most homebrew (so it needs to be FAT32)
Always make primary partitions for Wii.

Thing is I use neogamma and it only reads wbfs format, can hbc read from hdd?like if I put homebrews on it can I load them from the hdd?my hbc is quite old btw

In that case update your softmod. Newer HBCs can load homebrew from USB drives (has to be FAT32) and SD card and pretty much all modern USB loaders support FAT32 as well.

until now all games I played worked fine so didn't bother to update anything, I'm also a bit reluctant to do it since I didn't mod my wii(someone else did), and he installed CIOSCORP, which is quite risky and can cause bricks if you don't know what you are doing.

Try downloading Modmii and using it. It's pretty straightforward, it's a PC program that generates a modding guide and the files required for you. It should overwrite CIOScorp with the regular IOSes, which is much safer. It will also update your HBC and it has a section for setting up USB loaders. You can find it at modmii.zzl.org. Just tell it your Wii is a virgin and follow the instructions.

Last time I tried hackmii wouldn't run, because cioscorp was installed.It googled the problem and found that hackmii wouldn't use cioscorp IOSes.gave up after that.

In that case, do what I said and use modmii to generate a guide for you. It should give, among other things, a folder called WAD that contains all original IOSes as WADs. Install all of these using the HBC version you have. After that, you should be able to update the HBC.

That you haven't had a problem with it doesn't mean it's good. There probably are people with a launch X360 that still works fine.

Just answering the OP question, plain and simple. And yes I do have a launch 360 and it does work fine, whats your point?

his point was that it's not because it still work for you that it doesn't have known problem for other users. 360 are know for RROD.
WBFS can still work great for you, but doesn't mean that it's a good partition format (it corrupts games).

I'm still using WBFS myself, and I often have to check if my games are still good on it (after adding new games it has the bad idea to use already used blocks from another game, corrupting the old games)
Try using WiiBackupManager's SHA1 option to verify your game's integrity.
If all your games are still good, you are lucky

My point is that although his question might have been "is it possible", it's not a great idea and we're telling him that. The 360 part is there because a ton of launch 360s got RRoDs. Even though this might have never happened to somebody, that doesn't mean that person should say there's nothing wrong with them, because a great many did break.
Seriously though the main reasons not to use WBFS AFAIK:
-It's outdated
-PCs can't read it unless you use special programs like Wii Backup Manager
-You need to have separate partitions for homebrew and backups (and Gamecube backups)
-Bigger risk of corruption and stuff

I too recommend using only fat32
(or a fat32/ntfs split should you need to store >4GiB files without splitting them)

last time I checked (~2a) the order of the partitions was important
some wii programs worked only with the first partition, in others you could select it, and the rest used the first partition they can read
do your reasearch beforehand

iirc the recomended order is fat32(wii homebrew), wbfs(wii games), ntfs(everything else eg pc stuff)
all primary, leaveing out the ones you don't want, storing its content on one of the others

I heard there are compatibility issues with USB3.0 and it's working fine with neogamma atm, I don't want to update if this means that other loaders won't be compatible with my HDD.

USB3.0 supports 2.0 interfaces, so it should probably be fine unless you have a 3TB+ partition, I think there were problems with that.
