Hacking Unhacked white phat Xbox - what are the options?

As topic states. I just might get a 2008 White XBOX Arcade (phat) wich has never been online = old dash.
I know it is the model without any kind of hard drive or anything. Just the arcade version.

I have an older XBOX and a lot of bought games. It would be nice to be able to play them from HDD.

I have a couple of questions:

1. What is the best hack/modification I can do on this one, and how will I do it best?
2. Can I do something to prevent it from RROD in the future?

1) Depends what you want from it. If you want to play online, then drive flash or ODDE. Drive flash you have to burn discs, ODDE (Optical drive emulator) you can play from USB. You keep the same restrictions as unhacked console (region lock)

If you don't care about live, then if it's below 7371 you can jtag hack it, if it's above that, but not above 14719, then you can RGH it (reset glitch hack). End result of both hacks is the same. You lose live access, but console can run unsigned code (homebrew), region free, games from hdd, XBLA & dlc.

Jtag hack is cheaper than RGH and boot times are more reliable, so I'd go for that if you can and want to go for one of the two.

2) Keep it cool. Jtag & RGH you can keep an eye on temperatures and speed up the fans via software. Can 12V mod them if you go flashed drive route. No guarantee it will not happen though, but should reduce the chances.

To add.
If you do hack it then set up FSD.
It's the best replacement dash.

You can change your fanspeeds in the NAND, set them to 80% to be sure (it might sound like a jetfighter but i'll stay cool)

If you do RGH it then you can get a HDD casing for the 360 and any size 2.5 inch will fit without any hacks.
Enabling your games/homebrew to be stored on the internal HDD.
FSD has a DVD rip tool build in so you can backup them without any problems ;]

Beware the Xenons. If it truly is a 2008 model without HDMI, the chances are it is. These are not recommended for RGH as they have very unreliable boots. If it is a Xenon, hopefully it is on a dash before 7371. That way you can Jtag it as mentioned above.

Xenons are like Zephyrs when it comes to RGH.
Their as reliable as Zephyrs if not worse.


Like Hundshamer said, JTAG is pretty much the best hack if not the only hack for Xenons and Zephyrs.
RGH for the two is best used for rescueing DVD keys.

I´m not interested in going live at all. Just the single player stuff.
I will probably look into either JTAG or flash.

The problem is that with JTAG, I cannot go live to pick up all the DLC that I´ve bought. But without JTAG, I won´t be able to use homebrew. Tough choice there.

I´m buying the box from a friend this weekend. So I can see what it is afterwards. All i know is that there is the original dashboard, as it hasn´t been live.

Haha...I´m not good at soldering at all, so I think I´ll have to leave the xbox to someone who knows what they´re doing anyway

If it's on the original dash (the blades one then it's JTAGgable yep.

Hah yeh it's indeed better to let someone do it for you incase you might screw up.
Also ask the fella if he can set the fanspeeds in NAND to be above 75%

If what they say is true, then it will be past 7371 and Jtag exploit will be blocked. Summer 09 was when the update that blocked it was rolled out. You can still RGH it though.

Update it to 14699 (you can find the Sysupdate on Filetrip) and RGH it with RGH 1.

Since it's a Falcon it should be one of the best boards for RGH 1 (in my experience)
Boottimes are nearly instant and it's 99% of the time a successful glitch at the first attempt.

I already own a flashed black elite, so maybe I´ll pack away and keep this one for future use.
Maybe there will be more stuff bound to happen. I am not really up to date with the progress, so I don´t know if it´s worth to do this.

But again I don´t really know what to do...well. I have the christmas time to think about what to do.

EDIT: I´ll rig it up tomorrow to see what dash version it has, and return here with the info.

I'd say RGH it.
However it's entirely up to you ;]

If you do plan on RGHing it then don't update past 14699 (the sysupdate found on Filetrip)
Dashes past that are harder to glitch.

I just connected it and found out that the dashboard version was 2.0.9199.0. So I guess JTAG:ing is out of the picture then.

One question left.
If I decide to flash it instead, is it ok for me to update to the latest dashboard first? Will it be flashable then?

DVD flash doesn't matter.
Be it on dash 1888 (launch dash) or 16202 (latest Live dash)
It'll work no matter ;p

Actually if OP is going for RGH then a DVD flash wouldn't matter much (unless he is copying backups to the internal HDD)
