Sorry I forgot about that.

ODDE is not region free, RGH is region free.

That being said it is not so bad- sure there are a few Japanese shmups you miss out on (and adventure/graphic novels if you actually speak Japanese) and there are a few nice European RPGs and similar such games you might have to wait a year or so to get stateside as well as a handful of odd things like sports games for sports only popular within a given region. Other than that most things come out stateside and in Europe at roughly the same time (at worst two or three weeks and with scene releases that still usually means before street dates)
It is not to say I would not spit in the face of the ones that think region locking is cool and implement it in consoles and it is far from effectively unnoticeable. To decide what it is worth to you think of games you might like and fire them into http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=6 as it will usually tell you what releases are compatible with what regions (and give a good idea of wait times).

Other methods- assuming we are sticking with the no burning discs thing other than those handful of little things like PIRS DLC there is nothing unless you want to get a developer 360 (rare, expensive and somewhat cumbersome and as such not worth it unless you actually have a good reason to get one).

i am going to buy a modded xbox360 slim.. no idea what modchip is in there.. the seller can't tell lol... i just want to be able to load the isos from HDD and play DLCs... my question is whether all modchips can do that?

the seller told me it's region free... so i am pretty sure it's RGH now... so this means no online for me .. but if i play with an original disc, will i still get banned? (i am reading you can still get banned with ODDE?)

Still get banned even with original disc. Go online with the RGH=Ban.

but with ODDE also right? reading that the safest method is flashing the dvd drive (but can only play using dual layer only)?

I guess i need to decide if i need online or not lol .. initially i was not very interested in going online lol but still... lol :undecided

The only way to get any measure of online play with RGH is the dual NAND stuff we spoke of earlier and using a stock image on the second NAND.

ODDE is nothing to do with RGH and is a different hack (although it would be fairly pointless* you could also use an ODDE on a RGH modified machine). Some have claimed ODDEs are more detectable than simple DVD flashing but it has yet to be qualified either in theory or in practice (we have not seen a mass ban of those using hacked DVD drives in some time).

*you could have the ODDE on there in a dual NAND RGH system and use the ODDE to load from USB when you are running in unhacked/stock mode I guess.

As for online if I can get XBLA and DLC other ways and some aspect of online play (system link is possible with RGH machines, even connecting to stock ones over the internet) that works for me. Again though I really do not care for playing online against people I do not know (much less paying for the privilege) so I am probably not the one to ask. If it really matters (and most people find they only play a couple of games) 360s themselves are getting to be fairly cheap and game prices drop enough to pick them up for next to nothing if you go for second hand games- even for DVD hacking we often saw people run a hacked machine for offline and a clean one for online.

thx for the explanations .. can you give me some links for the dual nand stuff? do i need further hardware modifications for this or it's only via software?

You need further hardware modifications- some people went manual for it and some companies tried their hand at making devices to do it.

Do a search for 360Squirt and progskeet as those are the main two I can think of that did dual nand in commercial devices. Prices wise they do not seem that bad ($20 or thereabouts) but fitting them can be a pain and will require someone that is pretty good at soldering.

ah ok! seems too complicated.. i think i will stick with normal RGH thx .. last question: is it possible to remove RGH later on?

Yeah you could remove the chip, generate a stock nand and update as you would..... given you could probably trade the RGH 360 for an equivalent unhacked one I am not sure why you would though (although you can redo the RGH stuff unlike the earlier JTAG hacks given that no RGH capable machines, new hacks aside, are being made it seems like a waste).

If you get your console banned because of RGH, it will still be banned from ever going on live until even with the RGH hack removed and stock NAND flashed back to it.
on the other hand, if you keep the RGH console from getting banned by never having it try to connect to live ever and blocking live with DashLaunch.
then the console can go online in the future once the Stock NAND is flashed and the RGH hardware removed or disconnected.

ok thx for the explanation. i am giving up on online...

I went to see another seller today and it's premodded xbox slim has RGH but he's telling me that it cannot play games from HDD; only dvds.. he said he need to reflash it or re-solder it something like that and he is not willing to do it as it is risky. He's suggesting that i buy an ODDE: the wasabi 360(but he does not guarantee that it will work well in parallel with the RGH)...

question : some RGH can't play from HDD? and someone replied in this thread that ODDE can work with RGH(is there any special things to do to make them work together?

Seller is talking shit. If it's RGH, then you can play games from hdd.

are you sure? (do i need to install additional hardware or it's solely software?) any type of RGH? he said that dlc and emulators will work though. At least he took time to explain to me what hack he was using unlike other sellers who don't even know what modification they are using lol

If the seller says that DLC and Emulators work then it's a RGH.
No doubt about it.
Emulators are unsigned code and the only 360's you can run unsigned code on are JTAG/RGH's

If you have it or if you go to him then do the following.
Hook it up and boot it by pressing the Eject button.
If it shows a blue screen with XeLL Reloaded then it's a RGH.

Then you can play 360/xbox/XBLA/Indie/DLC/Emulators from the internal and external HDD
(I prefer internal cause it's faster and more compact)

ok thx so if it's RGH, then it must be able to run games from HDD (external or internal) right? the seller told me it's RGH. I think i'm gonna buy it then

Before you buy it, make sure it is an RGH by booting it via the Eject button yourself.
Only then can you 100% know for sure it's an RGH.

Yes.
However these games MUST be converted to either GOD or extracted as an .xex rip.
There are simple tools to do that (you can also rip your own games with FSD's build in disc ripper) so no worries ;]

Updating the RGH is also all software.
No soldering/hardware is involved once it's hacked.

Yep.
The power button usually boots the dash (unless XeLL is configured otherwise but I think the seller doesn't know how to redirect it and it would be stupid to redirect it but yeh)
The Eject button of the DVD drive that is ;p
If it boots to XeLL then it's a RGH, if it boots the Dash and nothing else then it's HIGHLY likely the thing is completely stock.

I wouldn't question his legitimacy at all.
But sometimes the "modders" are also dumb people that just happen to know how to hack things by looking at tutorials to make money but that doesn't know they know what their doing.

I can also say that my flashed 360 is a RGH and that my RGH is a flashed box.
They both can play backupped games.
So that means their both hacked.

And if a customer wants a hacked 360 (and doesn't know anything about it) I can say that I RGH'd a 360 to fetch more money yet I only flashed the DVD drive.
Customer has an hacked 360 which can play backup games and I have me money then.
However that doesn't mean that the customer has what he wanted.

Meh you get the point. ;p
