As pay day draws closer, I am curious as to which version of the Wii U I'll be getting. When it comes to storage space, I have a spare 500GB hard drive, so that isn't an issue with me. In fact, I much prefer the look of the basic Wii U, reminds me of the original Wii and such, which I also liked the color of.

The more I think about it, the more I think I might just go with the basic pack. It's not like I can't get Nintendo Land separately, as well as the charging cradle and stand. Those aren't selling points for me.

What would be a selling point to me is if there's anything beyond color and storage space that is unique to the Deluxe edition. Is there anything with it that I CAN'T get with the basic pack? Something not available in stores? I've heard SOMETHING about some subscription that the Deluxe gets that the Basic wont, or something. I can't find any info on this, so I'm not sure.

Any help would be nice. Money isn't going to be much of an issue for me, I just don't want to miss out on something.

First off, Nintendo Land is awesome for the local multiplayer (though, the single player attractions are great too --- deceptively hard); if you are considering it, why not just get it with Deluxe?

Anyway, for other deluxe features:
  • Wii U vertical stand (kinda useless)
  • Gamepad cradle (kinda useless)
  • Charging cradle (Pretty nice, plug in the charger and just dock the gamepad.)
  • Deluxe Digital Promotion
    • http://ddp.nintendo.com/
    • For each digital purchase, get 10% back as eShop points. (In 500pt increments, until Dec 2014)
So, if you plan to do a lot of digital purchases / want Nintendo Land --- just go deluxe.

If I get Nintendo Land, it would be played once, maybe twice. I generally don't have friends over that often (geographical differences, eats up a lot of gas, not worth it just to pull them over here for one game), and my family doesn't care at all.

The promotion thing, that's what I was looking for... Hmm... if I can use the $5 codes on my 3DS, then sure, why not? If not, then it's not THAT important to me... but it is at least something to think about.

Might not matter anyway. LOCAL GAME STORE doesn't have ANY! Most places have only white ones, and no one can guarantee I can get a deluxe model come Thursday. I wont be heart broken if I only get a white one though. Guess I just wont get $5 every now and then.

No way man, Nintendo Land is completely different compared to WiiSports. It's not just quick 5 minute games. The Pikmin Adventure is 16 levels and it gets pretty challenging. Zelda one is pretty fun too and also has a lot of levels. Trust me, you'll be wanting to go back to Nintendo Land when you play it.

Does it matter though? I might not be able to get anything BUT a white Wii U. I could get Nintendo Land later, but it's not high on my list. Not a big fan of party games anymore...

I don't know where you are in the US, but in the LA area there's a lot of Deluxes available. Have you considered getting one online?
Really, you should try to get one, you get the most bang for your buck.
You'll be surprised with Nintendo Land. I have 2 other Wii U games and that one is the one I play the most, even by myself.

if you want to buy ANY digital games, you will need a Deluxe or a HardDrive connected to a Basic. every game states that the Basic needs one to download the game. at least the Deluxe can fit ~4 Full games on it before a USB HDD is needed.

Also, the Vertical Stand is Useful (and free with Deluxe) if you want to have your console sitting Vertically. I personally have mine vertical and i could swear the Disk Drive is slightly more quiet that way.

Yes, I have. And the prices are either currently bloated or they only sell bundles I can't afford. Also, please stop trying to sell me Nintendo Land.

Like I said in the first post, I have a 500GB hard drive on hand that I'll be using right away. I also have a 16GB SD card. Storage space is not an issue for me. Also, I have a cat that likes to knock over anything and everything by my TV. Deluxe or not, it wouldn't be standing vertically.

No one is trying to sell you anything. I was unsure about Nintendo Land myself until I tried it. I was surprised to find there is a lot of content in a lot of those minigames, making it more than just a typical party game (though it is a good party game too).
At the very least I'd suggest you play someone else's copy of it and try out all the minigames so you get an idea of what it's like. I've enjoyed Nintendo Land more than New Super Mario Bros. U or ZombiU, surprisingly.

You can't put games on the SD card, so that's not of much use. The stand is nice but you make a good point about your cat.

Anyway it seems most people (including me) prefer black over white. That was one of the main reasons I wanted the deluxe one, Nintendo Land and all the extras were just a bonus.
So if you're one of the few who prefer white, go for it. If you end up getting Nintendo Land later you won't have saved anything, but if you don't care about the other extras, I guess it's the same either way.

I don't think I can get Nintendo Land anyway. I haven't found a single Deluxe pack anywhere, and I don't desire to purchase one online and wait a month for it to get here. Just have to wait and see what happens on Thursday.

the difference between getting NintendoLand via the Deluxe set and Separately is that The bundled one does NOT include a Nintendo Club PIN code for 60 Coins. also, for people that are going to use any USB Storage Device, if it even loses connection to the Wii U for even a fraction of a second, the Wii U will halt everything and make you power down and restart. that includes the drive losing power from someone accidentally unplugging it while your using the Wii U and if you forget and unplug it.

And that helps with the lack of a Deluxe set here and lowers the prices of online retailers.... how?

I thought it would be helpful to know that if you end up going the Basic+buying NintendoLand seperate route, you get 60 Nintendo club coins extra then Deluxe owners since the Deluxe and Basic consoles both earn 160 coins. while the Basic+NintendoLand separate can earn 220 coins (160 for basic,60 for NintendoLand)

Well, I might not be able to get the Deluxe. If I can't, then it's not a big deal to me if I'm to be honest. Yeah, it would be nice, but 60 coins missed... I've already his platinum this year.

To all of you begging me to get a Deluxe, some stores got a shipment today, and I got a Deluxe on hold for me. So yeah, stop trying to sell me it.. I like the white Wii U color, but I'm not upset over getting extra bits for "a value"

I also like the White Color better. for me,I ended up getting a black for the 32GB Storage,Gamepad Dock,Vertical Stand, and NintendoLand since i wanted all of those and it was more expensive to buy a basic and get them seperately.
infact, I would Prefer a White Wii U with a Black Gamepad since I think white is a little to bright of a color to have surrounding a Screen. I do not like using white handhelds because of that.
