Hacking Which Flash Cart Should I Get?

1 - As the images on the first page show, both of them support SDHC. SDHC's limit is 32GB officially. Above that might work, but don't count on it. DS games are tiny (for nowadays) anyways, you can fit 75-100 in 8GB.

2 - The DSTwo is the only cart in the list with it's own special homebrew. Any cart can run normal homebrew, but only the DSTwo can run it;s own special homebrew, so the capabilities of the DSTwo are better than all the other carts.

3 - Either or. You change mode for DS games by holding Start/Select while it's booting up, and it's the same for flash carts sine the 3DS detects and treats them like DS games.

So I have a CycloDS Evo and EZ Flash 3-in-1 currently in my DS Lite and am thinking of replacing the Evo with a card that still gets support. Since I already have the aforementioned EZ Flash 3-in-1, is buying a DStwo overkill? If so, what would be a better idea? Does the DStwo even work in conjunction with the EZ Flash?

Any modern flash cart can use the 3-in-1 with the use of GBA Eploader from what I've seen. The DSTwo wouldn't be overkill. It's GBA emulator does support save states and cheats, but it's compatibility/speed isn't perfect, you could just run stuff through the slot-2 still. You also get accessto the DSTwo's other features, like save state in DS games.

Are there currently any carts out there that support WPA/WPA2 on games that support WPA/WPA2? I already have an Acekart 2i and I can never get it to do anything but WEP. That's literally the only requirement.

Joeythegrape, WPA/WPA2 is defined by the system of your DS. I think you just got a NDSL/NDSi. In fact, WPA/WPA2 is supported by 3DS/3DS XL/3DS LL.

No flash cart can use WPA or WPA2, period.

The only way to use WPA or WPA2 is with an actual DSi-enhanced or DSi-only cart in a DSi or 3DS.

Even if you did have a flash cart that could run in DSi-mode, DS games themselves only work worth WEP or nothing.

You will not get DS games on WPA or WPA2, ever. That's why people go for adapters and other ways of making private WEP connections for the DS.

Yeah, I am aware that games that are not DSi-enhanced cannot use WPA/WPA2 period. I'm talking about running games that are normally compatible with WPA/WPA2 when used with a DSi or 3DS. So should any Flashcart that'll run DSi enhanced games work then?

... are there even any?

No flash cart can use WPA or WPA2, period.

The only cart that runs in DSi-mode is the iEvo, but that can't use Wifi while in DSi-mode for technical reasons.

If you need WPA/WPA2, then you need to be using an original DSi-enhanced or DSi-only cart in a DSi or 3DS.

DSi update 1.4.5 came out and blocks carts, if the AK2i doesn't get any news of an update within a few days then I'll be changing it's support for the DSi to "Partial" as well, and making a clearer note.

Rydian, you can add rts feature to r4igold/r4idsn. As you know, rts has been added into wood r4 v1.55

I could really use some help selecting a Slot 1 flash cart (and a GB/GBC/GBA flash cart as well). I guess my first main question is which system is "better" for emulating NES/SNES/GEN/GB/GBC/GBA, the DS or the PSP? By "better", I mean the one that can emulate all of those systems (or the largest number of them), and the one that emulates better, so higher game compatibility, and better in-game performance (as close to playing it on the original system as possible).

Assuming the DS is better, here's what I'm looking for in a flash cart:

-Play DS ROMs (only of games that I own, and game hacks like New Super Mario Bros. 3)
-Savestates
-Emulate (ideally) NES/SNES/GEN/GB/GBC/GBA
-No more than $50, but lower is always great

I haven't seen any talk of GEN emulation on the DS. If that one's not possible, that's fine. Is the DSTwo's built-in SNES emulator better than the standard one that all flash carts support? Also, if it can emulate GBA games, great, but that's not a requirement for me.

It seems the DSTwo fits my needs the most, but I wanted to get your opinions first. And answers/input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have a DSi XL, so no Slot 2. The GBA Flash Carts (like EZ Flash IV) work on both the GBA and the DS, correct? I wouldn't mind getting one of those too for my GBA SP, to just have all my games on one cart, plus be able to play game hacks. From what I'm reading, with the EZ Flash IV, it doesn't use emulation, you're actually playing the games on the real hardware. That's ideal for me. Although, I thought they supported GB/GBC games too, but now I'm finding that those have to be emulated with Goomba. What options do I have to play GB/GB games without emulation? I've read something about some bridge connector, and I've also read that there are GB/GBC flash carts, but they're really hard to find.

1 - The PSP is way better than the DS for emulation. There's no comparison. Anybody telling you the DS is better is somebody that's never owned a hacked PSP.

2 - All the carts in the first post are just fine for playing DS ROMs. You just drag the ROMs onto the MicroSD, fire up the cart, select a game, and it'll run. The carts also have updates and will, at any given time, play 99% of DS games.

3 - Save state in DS games is tricky, and only two current flash carts can do it. The DSTwo supports it natively, and has supported it for a while. On the other hand the R4i Gold just got save state support, but it's new, rough, and potentially buggy. Right now I'd suggest the DSTwo for it's save state.

4 - Any flash cart can emulate NES and GB/C fine, but systems like the GBA, SNES, and Genesis are where the DS in general hits a wall, and I suggest a different system for anything that level or higher.

5 - None of the current flash carts should cost more than ~$45, even the DSTwo (the most expensive cart with support) is often $35 or so on import sites.

6 - Genesis emulation is possible, but there's scaling issues, a limited ROM size (so for example Sonic 3 And Knuckles is too big to play naturally), frameskip is needed, etc.

7 - The DSTwo's special SNES and GBA emulators are much more compatible and have way less bugs than the normal ones. However they still pale in comparison to what a device like the PSP can do.

8 - The DSTwo is pretty much the top cart for DS games, with the R4i Gold being the second one, for people that just want DS games.

9 - The EZ-Flash IV in particular is not a standalone cart. It's meant to be used as a secondary cart (games are sent from a slot-1 cart and then it's started), and will not work properly just on it's own in a GBA. There are some standalone GBA carts, but that's another subject entirely, check the GBA section (under oldies, as it's a dead platform now).

10 - The GBA carts do play using the GBA hardware of the DS, but the DS doesn't play GB/C games, which is why you're seeing people say to just use Goomba and other emulators for GB/C games on the DS. I don't know if GB/C flash carts work in the GBA though.

I do know that Pokemon Black/White allows you to connect to WPA-encrypted networks as a DSi-enhanced feature.

Requires a DSi still.
