The essentials list isn't in a great shape with the last post in it coming from late last year. With the PS3 section on the site in general being sparsely populated. And as I have awesome taste in games and to make my life a bit easier when recommending PS3 shit for people as everything is in one place and allows me to articulate my opinions. I'll add more shit as time goes on.
Games to write about

WTF A GAME I LIKE ISNT THERE!!!

<div>Considering I haven’t played every PS3 game in the history of the world, I can’t exactly recommend it. I prefer the game impressions to come from someone who has actually played the game. In which case, I’m more than happy for others to write up about games they like and post it in the opening post with credit. Just follow the format so I can just copy and paste it to make my life a bit easier.</div><div></div>

HD versions of two modern classics. Both games deserve attention and adoration for its convulted brilliance. MGS 3 is personally my favourite game in the series. Cutscenes can be long but I wouldn’t say it really impeded the quality of the game. MGS 2 and 3 also demonstrate the evolution of gameplay in the Metal Gear franchise with a notable leap from MGS 2 to 3. Play MGS 2 before 3 though.

I really really like the AC franchise. AC II and Brotherhood provide a good continuation particulary as Brotherhood felt like a true sequel rather than a quick cynical cash in. Revelations whilst a good game doesn’t really excite as the previous titles. But it concludes the Ezio trilogy and I like Ezio.

One of the most beautiful games that was ever created. The game is from the same people who brought you Flower, and Flow. There is no dialogue, no text, no enemies that you can destroy. It's just you trying to reach a glowing light in the far off distance. The game is short, but it is easily worth the $15.00 asking price.

I’m recommending this with a sprinkle of caution. You get five excellent games in this package. The Half Life 2 stuff is great. Portal is a great game. Team Fortress 2 is a great game. However there are some issues such as the PS3 version being rather poor in comparison to other versions, in terms of frame rate issues. Get this if your computer is really really really really shit.

Excellent game and this is a good version. Portal 2 is a fully fledged game which is one of the most delightful games of this generation. In addition, the PS3 version has Steam integration so it’ll appear on your Steam account and even better, you get a redeemable download code for a digital version.

JRPG

When someone talk about hard games on the PS3, the very first thing people would say is Demon's Souls(or Dark Souls obviously). This games follows a risk/reward system as you WILL die in this game and you only get one chance. There's no bank, no second chances, no way to put off the inevitable. You will die in this game. When in this soulless form, you'll be permanently stripped of a chunk of your life meter. But even so you will continue to go back as the satisfying feeling of finally completing a stage after over 50 tries is so damn good that you will keep going and going into a a endless abyss of darkness. This game easily tops off as one of the best games on PS3 despite having not any kind of special plot that shines out from all the other JRPGs. The soundtrack is cool as it gives off the eerie feeling of being alone and then suddenly pitted off a huge boss with a song as if this is the very end. I could keep going on and on about this game, but once you tried it. You will seek for more.

In a time when console JRPGs are relatively uncommon in what has been seen as a decline in the genre, its good to see a good JRPG come out. Graces f doesn’t change the rulebook in terms but it provides an enjoyable experience. Whilst the story falls makes me apathetic, the battle system is improved greatly in comparison to last gen’s Symphonia and Abyss. And those two games had enjoyable battle system which is a testament to the quality of Graces f. What also should noted is the graphics look pleasant but doesn’t take advantage of the PS3 power which understandable due to Graces f being an enhanced port of a Wii game. However its a good game and highly recommended to fans of the genre.

Eternal Sonata has fun battle system incorporating turn based and action elements to make for a bloody game. The music is brilliant whilst the graphics are lush and colourful. The story admittedly isn’t great but it is a must play for JRPG fans.

To be honest I would say this is the best JRPG on the PS3. The battle is fucking awesome as it utilises turn based, real time, TPS elements into one fantastic game. The story is also pretty good as it essentially mimics parts of World War II (mass genocide anyone?). And this is backed up by good music and utterly beautiful graphics.

For some reason I had a random urge to play this. So I did. And I’m pretty pleased I did. HR is a game I would regard as being very very cool, particularly with the art style and the setting which made HR really appealing to me. I found the first few hours to be pretty dreadful to be honest though it did pick up and left me just wanting more. Certainly well worth picking up as the game goes for pretty cheap now.

Excellent game. You have very very pretty art style with gaming substance to back it up. Origins is a standout title when there’s relatively very little in the genre on the PS3. The controls are tight and the game has a fantastic ‘flow’ to it. Whilst the difficultly is paced very well whicih ensures smooth transition from piss easy to actual challenging levels.

An HD collection comprised of three PS2 classics. The Sly series follows the adventures of Sly and his two pals Bentley and Murray as they travel around the world stealing from other criminals and thwarting grand schemes. The series is known for it's comic book-like style that immediately grabs the attention of any gamer. Gameplay wise it's a cartoony stealth game, you got your spotlights, disguises, your sneaking abilities, and much more. Get caught by a guard or spotlight, be prepared to face the consequences. The first game is known for being the most frustrating of the three; you start off with five lives but if you're hit once you die, lose a life, and restart from the checkpoint. The second (and third) game, however, gets rid of this annoying little feature by giving the player a life bar. Although the game does sound nice, it has its problems that could keep anyone at bay: the game has freezing problems. It's a rare but annoying issue (I had mine freeze up at least three times). The game is also filled with glitches that was present with the PS2 games. Overall this collection is nice, if you're interested in the Sly series and have not played either of the three, this is a great place to start. The game also has PlayStation Move mini games, although they are pretty decent and will probably be fun for at least 30 minutes. There's also a nice little surprise once you beat all three games, although most fans already know what it is.

Puzzle

I wasn’t sure on what to think when I heard about the game. The whole idea of a puzzle game incorporated quasi-dating sim elements sounded rather batshit by even Atlus standards of batshittery. Yet it worked fantastically. The puzzles are merely moving blocks around and is rather fun to do. Whilst the story stands out as it focuses on themes of adulthood and commitment within a contemporary setting. The script is strong with voice acting being very good.

MGS4 takes a lot of stick and admittedly can be polarising. A lot of this is due to the number of cutscenes and a decline of actually stealth of the game, with a shift to a TPS gameplay style. Personally I still think it’s a good game. Though I admit its the weakest game in the main series. However it does conclude the story of Solid Snake and for that alone I’d say it’s a must play particularly if you’ve developed an emotional attachment to the MGS characters.

Peace Walker is fucking awesome. Really fucking awesome. Unlike MGS4 which a bit too shooter happy, Peace Walker provides a good blend of stealth and TPS. Whilst also having plenty of content with online compatibilities and a lot of side missions. Because it was ported from the PSP, the environments look empty and dull though Big Boss’ character model looks pretty good.

You get to be a cowboy in an open world. FUCK YESSSSSSSSSS. I had a lot of fun playing this, I bought the game thinking it would last me a while. Instead I spent a shitload of time within four days and did everything that interested me. I still pop the game in to hogtie damsels and leave on railway tracks.

One very good game and two excellent games. The Uncharted franchise is shining example of so-called cinematic gameplay. It compasses cinematic elements of picture, sound, script and characters along with fun and enjoyable gameplay. It provides a strong immersive game experience as throughout the games, the player will journey through numerous environments which each game proving a distinctive identity. You know you’re playing an Uncharted game but you each game is differences itself from other game in the series. Anyone with a PS3 owes it to themselves to at least try the games out for themselves.

Vanquish plays to a number generic stereotypes (Russians getting all uppity anyone?) and cheesy dialogue. Vanquish however is awesome as combat is a fucking blast and you have an awesome suit which allows for some fun gameplay mechanics , such as slowing time down for a period. However the game is on the short side at around six hours long and no online mode. However the game has been out for a while and is now available for peanuts and is well worth a buy.

Going by exclusives, you could add the Killzone and Infamous games to the list. Heavy Rain as well, if that was any good.

When it comes to multiplatform games... there are just too many good ones to list, I think.

I've just realised there's a limit to how many youtube videos I can put up.

RE: Game suggestions, what I'm trying to do is put up basic information about the game but also provide a personal opinion about it. And as I haven't played every PS3 game in existence, I'll be more than happy for others to make their own write ups and I'll put them in the opening post. If all goes well, we can make it into a community project.

I wouldnt call Eternal Sonata a good choice of a JRPG, or atleast not a first pick. The battlesystem is awesome and one of the attractive part of the game. It got awesome visuals and songs. But i find the story really lacking. The game really short and really linear at it too. The game really never made me get hooked into the story. There arent any kind of twist thats worth mentioning. The only intersting part which i actually dont like is that we follow a life of a polish composer?!?! The battle might get a little boring too if you end up stomping every single creep you meet. That being said Eternal Sonata's real gameplay doesnt shine until you really start doing a replay as you unlock parts of the battle system as the game goes on in like how you start from scratch composing a blank sheet into a musical score. And why did you not start with Demon Souls and Dark Souls first AMMAGAD!

Took a while but here it is. It's a little long though.
