Hardware Is the PSP capable to accept a 64GB microsd ?

Okay, one thing I'm honestly not sure about reading this thread (I may have just missed it). If I buy 1 64 gig card, and stick it in my adapter and then plug that adapter into my psp (not a double-card one, just a regular one) will it read fine? And give me, what, 59 gigs I suppose?

I guess the question seems kind of anal, I just want to be sure before I buy one!

Well, I'm not sure about your adapter...it NEEDS to specifically be a ProDuo adapter (if it is, that's fine)... One thing that I've read about the single adapters, though, is that it truly does not detect cards past 16GB. You could try, if you're intending to get the 64GB card, anyway... But, I'd recommend getting the dual slot adapter, posted in this thread, and then going for 2 32GB cards, to equal out 64GB,

You know...I'v been using the card for months. The lag bothers me very little. Every works fine. Playing roms, ripping UMD's, playing ISO files. PSone games. Music movies. I have yet to have any problems, other then slight lag.

Yeah, if anyone's going to reach for 2 64GB micro sdxc cards (formatted equals to about 118GB), like what MacrossSkullOne said, the lag is really only noticable when loading the xmb, after exiting applications or powering on the device. I've been playing a few ISOs, and the load times seem the same, when on my 4GB official ProDuo MS...so it seems xmb lag is the only noticeable worry, atm.

MacrossSkullOne, how much of the MS have you filled up, as of now? Just curious ;P.

^Amazon; my total was around $180...which was literally purchased within the last week or two. Fair warning, though...the above is linked to Class 6 cards, which is well enough for the PSP to process. Hell, even Class 2 or Class 4 probably wouldn't make much of a difference. Anyway, my point being, if you're into buying and intending to own Class 6, specifically, then take caution of who you buy from, merchant wise, on Amazon. I placed an order, and received Class 10's, by accident. Considering, Class 10's aren't bad, by any means...it's just, since the PSP isn't technically a high-end digital camera (Obviously, lol), the PSP does not need the over-powered 'sequential' read/write speeds that the Class 10's have to offer. Class 6 is recommended because, since it has lower 'sequential' read/write speeds than the Class 10, it doesn't have to rely on having to process such straight-forward, high amount of data, and allows it to have better, overall, 'random' read/write speeds. 'Random' is more recommended for non-digital camera uses, like PSP's or mobile phones...in which allows multitasking by loading multiple applications, or accessing random bits of data, faster.

I hope people can understand what I'm trying to say ^^;;...

Class defines minimum sequential writing speed. It doesn't say a lot about reading speed.

You are right that PSP (and DS flashcart) wants higher random read speed over sequential speed.

1- there is no such limit on the psp
2- so far you can use up to 64gb x2 (128gb) on the psp

Hi all: I'm new here and this is my first post since I found this thread while Googling around for answers on the PSP with dual micro SD reader..

I was hoping that someone here had a good answer to a couple of questions while on this Micro SD discussion for the PSP (from the sound of things so far the 32 GB cards seem to be the best overall option from a cost per GB/performance standpoint with the dual micro SD to Memory Stick Duo adapter).

Here's my questions:

1) What is the maximum read/write capacity of the PSP (I have a PSP fat/1000)? The reason being is that when I get my micro SD cards, I wanted to see if a Class 10 32 GB card at 30 MB/s would be overkill for what the PSP is capable of reading.

2) Does the dual micro SD to Memory Stick Duo adapter bottleneck speeds to Memory Stick Duo speeds (perhaps 9 MB/s)? If so, a 10 MB/s would hands down be the best choice since you aren't going to get to utilize the 30 MB/s speeds anyway. If not and you still get the 30 MB/s data rates it would seem that the extra speed could really make a difference in overall performance (load times, gameplay, video playback, etc.).

If anyone can verify the read/write speeds on this adapter with the Sandisk Ultra Class 10 30 MB/s UHS-1 cards and the adapter it would be very useful information. They are going to be on sale for $17.99 at Best Buy on Black Friday, so I'm definitely getting a few regardless (I'll put one in my phone and 2 with the adapter in the PSP). I just suppose it would be good to know whether there is an advantage of the 30 MBs cards over the 10 MB/s ones..

Don't know if anyone suggested this but you could remove the UMD disk drive, and super glue/tape some memory card cases where the UMD disc drive used to be. When you memory, just switch the memory card in and out of the memory card case. Plus your battery life'll be amazing.

That sounds a bit crazy LOL! I get you though.. Those cards are not exactly easy to transport due to how tiny they are and easily misplaced. That's kind of why the idea to go to a much larger card makes a bit more sense. At less than $50 to get 2x 32 GB micro SD cards and the adapter it's a no brainer.. Plus with OS X I can format the dual card as FAT-32 with no issues and will get a full 59 GB of accessible storage space. Knowing max read/write speeds of the PSP would be helpful..

Considering the PSP hasn't even gotten software updates in over a year and the Vita's been out with it's own new memory card type and MS Pro Duo has even fallen into disuse in cameras...

I'd say the chances are slim to none.

My PSP is proof that it works. The hard part is finding a dual adapter, that works. I didn't have any luck with the Photofast CR-5400 one's. So I went with a different one. And still to this day, my memory card is working fine, although I only have about 3gb left from the 118gb.

I ran the two 32GB dual micro SD adapter, with no problems. Now I'm running two 64GB on CFW 6.60 pro c, and every thing is fine.
