Genuinely addicted or does she just like playing it a lot? Also, if she's the type to get addicted to one online game what makes you think she won't become addicted to another?

Do people still play that game lol.

Browser like runescape or downloaded online game?
i've never played the game my friend tried to get me to play it over ten years ago i saw it sucked and never tried it again.

does not have to be browser based but does have to be compatible with OSX

super addicted she claims she plays it because it's free but she pays $8 a month for it, and she plays about 6 hours a day on school days 12+ on non school days. it would be fine if she got addicted to a better game.

Find a suitable game that you enjoy playing and suggest a compromise - you will only play Runescape with her if she plays this new game with you. A bit of give and take, you know? She may eventually prefer your game and then everyone wins.

I'm not seeing how replacing someone's "addiction" to a game with another game is really going to help if it's an addiction issue. That's like worrying that someone is addicted to heroin and just replacing it with cocaine.

Or if you just want to shove an alternative in her face, there's like... not much else. I'll suggest TF2 since it's basically a MMOFPS. I mean it has an in-game economy and everything. Also it's free, updated rather frequently, and a high quality game.

I just don't understand the prejudice people always have for Runescape. Not only does the free area have an incredible amount of stuff to do, but it's also large enough to keep someone entertained for at least 200+ hours. Not to mention the sheer amount of stuff that $8 a month will add. It's fine if YOU don't like it, but don't try to get your friend to change because YOU don't like it. I'd suggest a few games on this list.

It's overhyped by all the little kiddies who think they're "hardcore", a "computer gamer", and "addicted to RuneScape" for playing it for a week. I was one of those kids back when I was 14. I thought Failscape was hardcore shit, I thought I was, after playing for a week, a major computer gamer, and couldn't stop playing. For that week.

Then I realized how much ass it is. Not the good kind of ass, either.

Then I got into Maplestory. THAT turned into being a year and a half problem for me because of how much I played it.

THEN I got into WoW. THAT turned into a 2 and a half year problem for me, and I plan to get back into it over this summer, possibly.

Don't take it as me saying to avoid MMOs because they're addicting. I love them, I think the concept of party-based role playing is a fantastic idea, but again - they're addicting if you find the right one.

OP, I'll side with Cyan on saying that I think you're trying to find her a different game because YOU don't like it. But fwiw, if you really are looking for a new game for both of you, World of Warcraft has a free 30 day trial (or is it 14 day? idr) up to level 20. WoW IS OS X compatible, as well as Window (obviously) And Linux distros (through WINE). Pay to Play ($15 USD/mo.)

Maplestory ISN'T OS X compatible, though if you obtain VMWare Fusion and a Windows 7 disk (or any other Windows version), you can do it that way.Maplestory has changed a LOT since back in the day (I started playing very close after its release), and as such I can't recommend it anymore; it's changed for the worse. Free to Play; cash shop extras.

Guild Wars 2 is coming out soon. Not sure if that's gonna be OS X compatible, though I am assuming it will be. It looks pretty awesome. Pay to Play (not sure of cost)

RIFT also looks pretty cool, have some friends who play it, I had a VIP Beta key and never used it lol, so I can't say for sure how it is. Pay to play; $15 USD/mo. (I think)

Edit - Aion is going Free to Play soon, had a coworker really pushing me to get into it, never tried it. Unsure of compatibility outside of Windows. Free to Play (soon), cash shop extras.

FlyFF was one I tried for a few minutes, I wanted to self-induce a coma. The game sucks worse than Failscape, IMO. Free to Play, cash shop extras.

Well, I suppose that's your opinion of it. And have you even taken a look at it since you stopped playin? However, there's a reason it's been the top rated browser based MMO for the last 8 years. I'll admit, it can get old, but in no way does it suck ass. I also get a little heated when people call it FailScape too. Such dumb pet names are ONLY thought up by 14 year olds, and are still used by people who never grew up. At any rate, it's really the only game besides Graal Online I've seen that continually evolve. It's weekly updates are impressive.

It's browser based for a reason, so the kiddies don't use to o much bandwidth and their parents don't get angry at them. The game is for prepubescent kids. Grow a beard and play a real game.

If you want a really unique game. Try Wakfu. A startegy turnbased MMORPG. Yes, you read me right! Turn based STATERGY MMORPG. Starter area is f2p, but if you intend to play more you sadly have to pay a monthly sub cost about the same as runescape.

I always thought The 4th Coming was a cooler alternative to runescape, and it's also free. I'm surprised it's not dead yet actually... think of it like a Diablo-like game.
