Soywiz's PSP Emulator for Windows, PspEmu, has been updated to v 20120407 r256. The emulator is written in C# 4.0, and is starting to show some major promise! Games are starting to boot up, and more homebrew is running.

Changelog said:
Major Improvements
  • Module loading (this allow more games to run, including some software like PRX Decrypter or LUA Player)
  • Automatical EBOOT decryption. It will decrypt EBOOTs on the fly. This will allow lots and lots of new games to start running. (But still requires some work to get most of them ingame).
Note: With those improvements I have noticed lots of games start running, and some more starting like: Princess Crown and Ys The Ark of Napishtim.

Minor Improvements
  • Now you can drag & drop executable files on the emulator window
  • Implemented bltzal/bltzall required for some games
  • Implemented DXT1
  • Fixed DX3 RB
  • Added lots of new APIs and fixed some of them.
  • Added a new versioning system. Releases now are denoted by the date eg: 20120407, git revision: 959572e63973662303c2dfd80f6fb60eaebb4072, and now also a count revision r256. This is an incremental number that indicates the number of commits to the repository.

This is nice and all, but isn't JPCSP a little more developed? I believe it runs quite a few commercial games...better than CPCSP IIRC.

I'd imagine the goal is to create something that doesn't rely on Java (and the overhead it requires) getting in the way of emulating something as powerful as the PSP.

definitely jpcsp is better but java causes many issues exactly as lily is saying and i am talking not through theory but using jpcsp myself. the ps2 and wii emus run faster and the dev himself has said there are some restrictions to java.
i just am impressed by how reverse engineering works to make emus work. thats how emu's are made?

Ah I see. I was surprised to hear how much further the Java version got TBH, didn't think much would come out of it when the first few builds were released.

Well, you're running an emulator in an emulator (possibly emulating that as well too), so it isn't optimal for this stuff AT ALL. Not saying that java is bad or anything, it has its quirks, but it can get a little bit ridiculous if you think about the mechanics behind it.

Well, it says this emu is coded in C#, which is also an interpreted language like Java so they're both pretty much equal when it comes to efficiency. And Java works well on all OS's, while C# only works properly on Windows (Mono is a pain in the ***)

But it's nice to see progress coming along in emulating newer consoles :)
It makes me want a 3DS emulator too. But I know, it'll be a long time until it happens :(

Hello Dirbaio... I recently discovered the amazing world of NSMB hacking and then found NSMBHD, and then i saw you're the manager there. Good site. I'm thinking about registrating there as i am hacking NSMB myself. So maybe we'll see each other over there too.

Anyway, sorry for the OFFTOPIC
