Expect spoilers in this thread!
galaxy-at-war.jpg

Unless you've had your head in the sand over the past week,
(or if you've been too engrossed in the finale of the Mass Effect series)
then you've probably heard the grumblings around the internet.

Bioware's Social Network is absolutely buzzing with angry fans. They're dismayed, disheartened, disillusioned, disgruntled, and all around disgusted with the way that Bioware and EA have chosen to end their multi-million dollar space epic. There are thousands of people crying foul over the choices (or lack thereof) that they're given with which to end the Reaper invasion. And now they're massing together, forming their own internet armada, and raising their voices in protest.

A mere three days ago a facebook group was created with the intent to demand a better ending to Mass Effect 3. In those three days the ranks have swelled at an astronomical rate, bringing their numbers to 9,000 at the time of this posting.
The associated Twitter page, RetakeME3, also boasts more than a thousand followers.
But they need more if they're going to convince Bioware and EA that they've mistreated their loyal customers and fans.

So if you have thoughts about this, tell us what they are.
If you're going to discuss spoilers, please use spoiler tags.
And please take a moment to present your viewpoint on this poll.

Why the fuck would they be mad about this? I mean, you get 2 whole options to choose from! Albeit they pretty much end the game in the same way, it's still something! They can bitch all they want, but I quite frankly don't give no fucks.

EDIT: And not only that, but it also leaves the door open for some spin-offs as well. BOOHOO.

EDIT2: Also, BOOHOO WE DIDN'T GET THE OPTION OF A FAIRYTALE ENDING WAAAAH BITCH BITCH WHINE WHINE MOAN MOAN.

Now I wasn't too great at 12th grade math, but that number over pi divided by the square root of infinity equals 9000 ain't a whole god damn lot.

While it's commendable that the fanbase stands up against a terrible ending, it baffles me that more people are pissed off about this than Day 1 DLC.
Actually on that note, do they actually think EA gives a shit? You paid for their game, that's all they need. They don't give a fuck about the fanbase after that, and I doubt they'll let Bioware give a shit either.

Or they'll make a better ending a $15 DLC. Expect it.

A lot of the comments I've read have a lot of their vitriol at the fact that the endings aren't "happy" enough. No, not making that up.

Honestly, I was perfectly contented with the ending. But hey, if you really don't like it, it's only the last five minutes of a 30 to 40 hour (or, taking the whole series into account, 100 to 120 hours) experience; it hardly ruins all of that forever.

I'd actually argue against that.

It doesn't matter how nice a train ride is, how beautiful the scenery is, if you crash at the end, that ain't going to be a very nice train ride anymore.
If you ever talk about that train ride, it wont be "Man remember that train ride? It was pretty nice...until the end." it'd be more like "Jesus christ you remember that train ride, the one with the fucking CRASH at the end?! Fuck that train ride."

The ending is going to be a pretty strong point in someones opinion, obviously since it'll be the last thing they really see (bar NG+).

I watched the "good" ending online earlier. Sure, the ending wasn't fantastic, but when only maybe 20k people total (counting that group and potential otherwise) are disgruntled enough to say anything, I don't foresee a lot happening. Let's also consider the fact that 890k copies of the game sold in the first day, in North America alone. Unless the million+ people that bought the game by now (counting Europe, of course) file a class action lawsuit or something, the chances of results are pretty slim.

I'd dispute that analogy. Sure, a train crash would be memorable, but no one is dying or getting hurt here. A story just ends in a matter that they find to be unsatisfactory.

Complaints are fine, but the amount of rage being thrown in Bioware's direction over this matter is ridiculous; it comes across more as whining than anything else. Considering how much anger they have been receiving recently (over the fact that it has gay characters, over the possibility that Commander Shepard could be a blond woman, over a writer who didn't even work on the Mass Effect series, etc.), it's impossible to take seriously.

3 options, actually.

Also, if you were really expecting the ending to be happy then you're delusional. Mass Effect wasn't a game based around flowerpicking with moral choices coming down to which flower you want to pick. It was a game about defending the galaxy against an unstoppable threat. If you expected that, in the end, they just magically destroy the Reapers and everyone comes back together for a big picnic then you're stupid. I'm pretty sure the tone of the game was set when Earth is overrun and damaged beyond repair within the first 5 minutes of the game.

Also, Hells Malice, you didn't even play the game, so why are you complaining about the ending? You don't like the series as a whole and the ending was exceptional because it's a culmination of everything from all the games, concluding at one amazing point.

Was the ending (at least the one I chose) sad? Yeah, I'd say so. But while I wanted something happier, I realized that doing that would just be against the entire game's premise. I'm sure more people would complain if the ending was too happy.

Plus all the scenes leading up to the ending. Since this thread has spoilers and you shouldn't be reading it if you want to know the ending of the game unspoiled, the scene where Harbringer lands and you mad dash to the light beam thing was utterly amazing. Like one of the best scenes in gaming.

EDIT: Also, railing on about Day 1 DLC is getting old. It was clearly meant to entice people into getting the Collector's Edition even more. And as I said in another thread, it's not relative to the story or necessary at all. I completed the game perfectly content on lacking a single character who was never introduced into the story earlier. He's not Tali, he's not Garrus, he's not Liara. He's, in fact, the only newcomer to your team outside of Vega (unless you feel like counting EDI). Again, you're not buying the game, you don't have to buy the DLC, and it doesn't care if you buy the DLC. You're railing on it because it's Mass Effect and you're automatically biased against Mass Effect. If there's anything you can pick at about the series you'll ride it 'til the cows come home.

Quote where I actually hated on the ending brosausage. When I said "terrible ending" I was pretty much going with what others were saying, not my own opinion or what I thought of the ending. Simple as that. I wasn't actually passing judgement on the game.
Btw i'm about 10 hours into ME3. I play it on my spare time. The gameplay isn't half bad if they'd only add a skip cutscene button. I've played ME1 and ME2 as well, just not to completion since I tend to get violently bored of it after a while.

Seriously amused by this. I bet the company executives are literally shitting themselves at this minute and using piles of your foolishly parted with cash to clean up with.
ITS A VIDEO GAME - Get a sense of perspective ffs.

Tycho tackled the subject a bit on Penny Arcade. I'm not going to quote the entire thing because it's a bit large (I'd recommend just reading it on their site if you're interested), but here is a key passage about (his hypothesis on) the source of the whole kerfuffle.

Mass Effect 3 is a special case, though, particularly given the 3 we see affixed at the end. They aren’t merely ending a single game; they’re ending three games, in what has been called gaming’s first true epic. Mass Effect 3 succeeds, and succeeds, and succeeds as it unfolds; for it to be over, for it to stop at all, must certainly be seen as failure of a sort. The reaction to the endings is an index of player investment and seeming ownership over the narrative, years in the making, and is as much Bioware’s creation as the game itself.

Hey if u guys don't like it, hack the game and reprogram/redesign it the way you want it to end. It won't be easy but if it's a better ending u want, it's what ur gonna hafta do. I'd suggest building a group of programmers/animators who like your idea.

X (for the Xbox at least) should skip most dialogue until you reach points where you have to decide or do Renegade/Paragon interrupts. I don't see why you would though, half the game is dialogue and you need to understand the pretext to make good decisions.

Just completed it, and while I didn't find the ending(Including others) all that horrible, it felt kinda underwhelming(Is that the right term to use here?). Felt like there would be more, plus IMHO Mass Effect has had awesome characters, and not showing what happens immediately afterward to them kinda sucks :C Also showing what happens to all the other worlds and stuff, would have been better if they did that instead of cutting to the future with the stargazer or w/e.

I feel like if they did this they'd have a "Return of the King" ending. Basically the movie ended on a high note of action and climax but then took like half an hour to show all the stuff that happened. Mass Effect 3 would basically have the same thing. I mean the two are basically the same in terms of pacing and plot (the good side vs. an overpowering evil side with their one hope lying in a single man on an epic journey). I think you can draw enough conclusions from what you saw. You know what happens to your crew, you know the universe is basically isolated now (since there's no more Mass Relays) and you know that shit is gonna have to rebuild.

I was satisfied with the ending and I thought it tied up all the loose ends worth caring about.
