Sorry if it has been asked already, but will the Japanese version of the game, which should be out on November 17th, change anything to this translation? Thanks! (Famitsu only gave it 28/40, but I'm sure they're in the wrong.)

Hmm, this is the first I've heard of it. It might affect things, but only if a Japanese translator volunteers and the encryption methods haven't changed.

If a Japanese translator volunteers, that'd would help speed up things, especially on files that are hard to edit, or aren't translated yet.

Or have been translated into utter gobbledygook.

I've encountered a part where it said something like

KOREAN > ENGLISH
Enter text to translate

The Warrior dude was screaming it in game, and I couldn't stop laughing.

Not to BUMP this but, now since the Japanese version has been released, would it be easier to translate?
Also, would you ever consider changing the base rom to the Japanese one? (No,I'm not forcing him to cauz' it'll turn out english either way)

No idea, we'd need a hopefully proper Japanese translator, but honestly, it probably won't happen, since it's already translated albeit in semi-legible English, and we just have to do some heavy editing.

It's kinda like how Nintendo translated their games in the 80s

The editing is kinda on hold right now, due to life. And the fact that I'm virtually the only one editing :(

I am willing to edit. Though I am already in the team, I am just new at this Subversion thing, so I am still figuring how to actually discover the unedited English files so that I can fix them. (I am using kdesvn, by the way.)

Go into a bash window, cd to the directory you want the files in, then try

Code:
kdesvn checkout http://subversion.assembla.com/svn/maplestoryds-translation/IN/ MapleStoryDS
This should create a "MapleStoryDS" folder in the directory, with all the text files

When you want to commit, cd back in the directory where the MapleStoryDS folder is, and type
Code:
kdesvn commit MapleStoryDS -m [message]

If all else fails, just use the svn command instead of the kdesvn command, and use the same syntax, so for example
If you need to install it, just
Code:
sudo apt-get install subversion
Code:
svn checkout http://subversion.assembla.com/svn/maplestoryds-translation/IN/ MapleStoryDS

svn commit MapleStoryDS -m [message]

has there been any update at all in the game? It would be nice to play... but I guess if I'm the only person looking forward to a game it's not enough motivation to get a team to finish this up.

We have a translation, but believe me it's rough. Not to mention a Japanese version has released, which would be much easier to find people to translate for.

yea lol i saw that comment a little earlier, I tried doing a google and a gbatemp search for anything that might be maplestory related but ended up with nothing, so I figured I'd message on this one, start some sort of traffic and then magically everyone wants to jump on the Maplestory bandwagon. :)

Okay. I got the files working. However, upon reading the "semi-translated" files, I barely have any idea of what is happening.
No; I can still interpret. I just wonder what I needed to read related to this game before I could actually start fixing.

Play some MapleStory. You don't need much, maybe up to level 70.
