 | A Laptop
| My laptop is old a broken.
It's not an antique, and it's not so broken that I couldn't even give it away, but it has lost the prime functionality of a laptop; to be portable. The hinge has cracked and I'm scared to do close the lid. The RAM is pathetic and CPU is abysmal. It runs 5 year old games on the lowest settings at 20 FPS. But I don't have much money to switch it out for a new one. Being a high school student without anything resembling a source of income, I don't have the sort of expendable cash to be able to throw it away on a $1K+ laptop. So what I'm asking is: do you guys know of any good deals?
I'm thinking along the lines of:
Geforce 9300m GS+
2GB RAM
250 GB HDD
15" screen
$600
Specs and price around that rage would be nice. I'm not looking for a Sager or a transportable gaming rig. Just an average laptop that can play most games at a reasonable quality/framerate. |

| I've never used the blog function before and I felt that this situation called for one. A few weeks ago (was it? I don't remember) a user named 'kryptonianpimp' posted a thread where he showed off an image he created. He seemed quite proud of it and he made sure to state that he was but the age of 12. I, being the total ass that I am, could not ignore the chance to point out that it was mediocre.
He PM'd me and I replied. A few times. I was just about to reply to his latest message when I felt that I've grown tired and unamused. So I've decided to post the conversation in a blog entry and let GBAtemp solve my problem. For reference, this is the image he made and my initial comment:

Don't sound so offended, I didn't say it was terrible, I just said it was mediocre, meaning, it's not good.
I can't function as a logo because it:
-Can't resize easily
-Would look confusing in grayscale
-No immediately-recognizable shape or design
Any design student could tell you that. Hell, anybody could tell you that.
Even if it weren't meant to be a logo, the image:
-Is too large to be used a lot of the time.
-Is unsymmetrical in many places (the green and red circles, the 'Welcome to GBAtemp's', the GBAtemp logo, the 'DS & Wii')
-Has used GBAtemp's logo, but has enlarged it and made it look blurry
-Unprofessional
-Is simply not very aesthetically pleasing.
Don't get all defensive when someone criticizes you, especially on the internet. As a matter of fact, you should've been expecting negative criticism. Don't expect sympathy just because you're twelve. I could've done much better than that at 12. I could do this in 5 minutes, and if I made it, it'd be at least symmetrical.
TL;DR:
1) When you put something the internet, expect it to be criticized.
2) Your age is irrelevant
3) Just because you worked hard on it doesn't mean that it is automatically good.
4) Don't Capitalize Every Word In The Sentence. It Makes You Look Dumb, And Is Very Annoying To Read.

Grow up, some people actually have things to do other than to prove that they're better than you. Ask anybody, that 'logo' was crap. I have more impoortant things to do than to prove that I'm better than some obnoxious 12 year old. STFU and GTFO the internet if you can't stand criticism. Grow up and stay in school, seriously. You need the help with English if you can't grasp the simple concepts of punctuation and capitalization by middle school.

I never said I was an artist. I never said that I had any artistic ability. And I never said anything to imply that. I said I could have done better than you. I don't need any artistic ability to do that.
You seem to not be able to understand that someone doesn't need to be better than you at something to know that you just aren't very good. I don't need to be a chef to know that shit-sandwiches aren't very good. I don't need to be a web-designer to know that sites like this aren't very good. And I certainly don't need to be an artist to know that your 'logo' was shit. And yes, I would say that I can cook something better than a shit-sandwich (I do, often), design a site better than 'www.fabricland.co.uk' (I have), and photoshop something in 5 minutes that would look at the very least as good as your's.
You do not have artistic talent. Deal with it. Don't go around PMing everyone who calls you out and repeatedly annoy them until they relent and let you believe that you have any 'talent'.
What do we both know are not true? And what the hell is a 'mediocre' statement. Did I type something that could barely be considered a statement? Or did you just feel like using some word you heard (from me perhaps?) and hope it would sufficiently improve your apparent writing-ability? Because you failed, miserably. Please stay in school and stop thinking that I have to be better than you to know that you suck. |
