| Fable II First Impressions | I was lucky enough to stop into a Blockbuster on Thursday night and to my disbelief they had Fable II out there and there was one copy left! I snagged it and have been playing it ever since. Aside from flipping back to the Sox/Rays series I've been playing it all weekend.
Intro The beginning of the game Isn't bad. Like the first you start off in childhood as a boy or girl and need to do deeds with your sister in a town (i think its Bowerstone) to get gold in order to purchase something that continues the story. Each deed seems like it had a pure(good) or corrupt(evil) way of completing it. I wont spoil it any further.
Graphics In a word, Impressive. I got the same visual shock as with the opening to Oblivion. Flora is still reminiscient of one. Spells look snazzy and upgraded. Baddies and bosses look about the same, maybe a little shinier. The landscape is expansive but still path based, and you can see shrubs and (rarely) buildings loading. Although that might just be my dying DVD drive. I also have noticed the clipping is still there between characters. I was impressed by the 2 cutscenes i saw though.
Gameplay If you played the first, its like riding a bike. There are the old spells (shock, inferno, blades, slowtime, raise dead) and new ones like vortex (think bioshock) and chaos, which is like turncoat but an area attack. Guns Behave just like crossbows and bows, lock-on, shoot, repeat. Social system is kicked up a notch, safe sex is now practiced in albion. more expressions, theres a set of expressions just for the new dog. I nicknamed mine "fotchmeister" after my brother's dog. You can in fact rename just about anyone you want and buy anything you want in the world, including roadside shops, and get a decent discount for owning it too. Marriage and Families are pretty much the same except you can conceive a child now. Jobs are a simple new way of generating money, it was especially helpful in the beginning, you level up and receive more gold for each level promoted and each job consecutively done. You can also get automatic income from renting property, no need to go collecting every three days, which is good because your new spouse(s) demand a daily allowance!
Sound and Music Nothing spectacular here, new choir song that sounds like the original ala Halo 2. Chopping noises, nice bass in casting spells if you have a system. Voice actors sound a little less incompetent, emphasis on the word little.
Overall Very impressed, this was not a letdown for me, even though this was overhyped in my opinion. A game like Fable lets the gameplay speak for itself. I will buy this as soon as i am able, until then i have until tuesday to play!!!! Just thought id write a little preview for y'all so you can know whats coming. I am a big fable fan so my overall rating of 9.5 might not ring true with everyone. Fable fans, though, you are in for a big treat!

| Sleepy time | It's after 2 here and Im going to bed. I've read about a lot of people's problems sleeping lately and I feel for all of you that can't sleep. Having sleep apnea for most of my life i have a few of tricks to get me to sleep. Not all of them work for everyone but i just though i'd share.
- Cut the soda and sweets off after dinner (trust me it works) - Playing a repetitve handheld game (Tetris, Pinball, ect.) nothing too deep in gameplay. - sleeping with a fan blowing in your face - meditation - light classical, nothing too famous just like concertos
Good luck tempers in you pursuit of dreamland. Does anyone else have any different tricks to feel sleepy? |
